It’s better on iPhone or iPad. The Mac version is essentially useless - it’s good for plugging real instruments into but there are much better things for that. GarageBand iOS is the only app of its kind, acting not only as a DAW but as the world’s most jam-packed-with-sounds virtual synthesizer.

If they were still alive, and if they wanted to, they could. Something tells me it would’ve been difficult to get them to use the virtual instruments though. While it is the world’s most magical app, it continues to lack on the virtual guitar front, having a shockingly limited number of virtual guitar options, and all of them suck. But that being said, it wouldn’t necessarily have been difficult to get them to use GarageBand as a simple DAW - you can, in fact, plug a real guitar into the iPhone or iPad and record that way.
