I never understood just how important Malcolm was to AC/DC until watching this video. I know that a majority of the riffs are written by him and provides the foundation for nearly every song and everyone contributes after. Having Angus and Brian/Bon Scott are bonuses. He truly was the heart and soul of this band. Angus and Brian are definitely the two that stick out most. And who could blame them? That voice and Angus shredding the guitar? That’s what made them great. RIP Malcolm.

Kyle in earlier songs like the insanely difficult’Riff Raff’ Malcolm is playing lead with Angus that’s how Angus can run jump spin on floor and still sound perfect, Malcolm created all the big riffs & the Hells Bells/ Hwy to Hell sound he was definitely the glue that held acadaca together, After sacking the original singer because he didn’t want to be a ‘Faggot’ band he copped a lot of shit and Bon & Mal would fight blokes in the crowd in pubs 😂 A lot of Aussie rockers didn’t get on with him from Doc Neeson to Iva Davies.

I had the privilege of being one of the extras in this video, this was back when the fan club was run out of a house in Bury St Edmunds. I got a letter telling me if i wanted to be in an AC/DC video to be at Brixton Academy London early the next morning. So i took the day off work sick and spent the whole day in schoolboy uniform and a wig rocking out to this track. In between shoots the band would mingle with crowd signing autographs and posing for photos, these guys are humble down to earth really appreciate their fan base. I still have the cut out guitar signed by all the band Best day ever

Imitate? This isn't Las Vegas. The list of singers that can do a good job yet still maintain their natural voice is anything but short, however. Hell, Axl Rose even did a halfway decent job covering for him during his hearing issues and he also did some Bon Scott songs that Brian Johnson wouldn't and couldn't do. You are right about one thing though. Mr. Johnson's voice is definitely iconic! Personally I wanted to hear Jesse James Dupree from Jackyl give it a go instead of Axl.

Their best era if you ask me. Musically this is when they were at their peak. The music industry was going through a bit of a shift, and musical tastes temporarily moved away from AC/DC, but the late 80s is their best work imho. It happened to quite a few bands I reckon. Same thing happened with Iron Maiden. Late 80s was a crap time for them as a band from a popularity standpoint, but the albums they recorded during that period are still the best stuff they've ever done. Powerslave and Somewhere in Time are incomparably excellent. Motorhead was another one. In the late 80s/early 90s Motorhead were arguably at their "uncoolest", but 1916 (from 1991) is unquestionably their best album. Same goes for KISS - they were daggy as hell in the late 80s, but Hot in the Shade from 1989 is really strong musically. Some rockin' tunes on that one, definitely the high water mark of the non-makeup era. They're just a laughable parody of themselves now, and haven't done anything good since, but that one is damn good. I could go on. But it definitely seems like the loss of popularity for some bands leads to a creative golden age. Instead of fading into history they double down on their thing and stay the course and it produces some true brilliance that goes unnoticed at the time, hence the underrated status of so much of this great music.
@bisibbia2 жыл бұрын
@@edwardg1 Agreed. ‘Fly on the Wall’ is great but very underrated because at the time of release (1985) AC/DC was “out of trend” while pop ruled the music industry and their genre didn’t match up with the mid-80s music. Same goes for Blow Up Your Video (1988)

BEST vid ever! Brian looks like he is having such a good time, we get to see alot of Malcolm, and Angus is...well, Angus. And I love isolating my hearing every couple views and just homing in on the drums. This group was lightening in a bottle and this will never happen again. And I include every incarnation of the band in that statement. Mad love for AC DC!!!!

Best drummer of AC/DC’s entire career. No one hits the snare drum like Simon did. Power and passion
@JohnnyangelNIU3 жыл бұрын
Chris Slade - pound for pound and in his prime - was probably the best all around. Simon was a close second. Many people will argue for Phil, but he really wasn’t that great of a drummer, he just fit AC/DC’s groove like a glove. That all being said, (especially at this juncture in their career) why AC/DC would want to Phil back I don’t even know - given all his past legal woes, which have not just “up and disappeared” either. The guy is/was also a major meth-head, if you couldn’t tell by looking at him. Angus calls the shots, but if it were my band and we knew realistically we only had a few years left, I would never want that guy or his baggage anywhere around me anymore.
@luischavanne50873 жыл бұрын
Joseph Anthony Angel very good point about Phil, I have the same opinion about everything you described. About Chris I didn’t like him maybe because he did not look very well being left handed (poor guy it’s not his fault). And he did speed up a lot when he was playing live which took the magic from the songs. From Simon I like his face when he plays, you can see his happiness and his passion. The 80’s style! He reminds me of Steven Adler or Tommy Lee, always smiling when they play. For me as a drummer makes the difference
@JohnnyangelNIU3 жыл бұрын
@@luischavanne5087 Never knew Chris was left handed! He had an awesome kit on that 1991 world tour..

Joseph Anthony Angel maybe I’m mistaken. He has the hi-hat on his right which is not very usual if he’s right handed. Sorry about my English, I’m a Spanish speaker
@luischavanne50873 жыл бұрын
Joseph Anthony Angel definitely! I have the DVD live from Donington. At that time I didn’t use to bother that much but like I mentioned before the songs were played faster than usual and it wasn’t my taste at all. Whatever, AC/DC it’s like Gene Simmons said a few years ago, they’re gonna be considered more than the Beatles for rock history. Which maybe I agree
