In this video we show you how fix the most common failure we see in air conditioners: Your A/C is dripping and flooding all over the floor, or your AC won't turn on at all because the ac drain clogged and your ac drain pan is overflowing and dripping. Here we show you 2 great plumbing tricks to quickly unclog your AC drain line pipe and your AC blowing cold again. This will save you from spending $200 or more for the AC repair company to to come fix your unit, when this simple DIY repair is all your need.
Order your Toughsystem 2.0 tower tool boxes from Home Depot Online:
🛒 DeWalt ToughSystem 2.0 Full 3 Piece Tower : homedepot.sjv....
🛒 DWST08450 ToughSystem 2.0 Large Mobile Toolbox: homedepot.sjv....

🛒 DeWalt ToughSystem Workshop Racking Storage System homedepot.sjv....
You should periodically check your ac drain line outside and make sure it has a steady stream like drip. If the drips of water appear too slow or none at all, then you have an ac drain clogged issue. Next the water from your air conditioner is supposed to drain out this pipe but instead backs up into the drain pan, then you have an ac dripping water all over the floor.
On more modern AC air handlers, that were installed correctly by the AC repair company, you will have a float switch. So a clogged AC drain line will cause you to have an AC float switch full of water, which will turn off your AC to prevent a flood. As long as your AC float switch keeps filling with water, and your AC float switch keeps tripping, then you have ac not turning on in the house syndrome. But luckily you can fix this rather quickly. So now you have an a/c not turning on and you think the AC is broken and you'll be shelling our hundreds, when reality it's just an AC drain line clogged and the ac secondary drain line dripping.
Some homeowners might freak out when they see the drain pan dripping they might think they have ac drain pan leaking, when all it is doing is overflowing because of the ac drain clogged with debris. So if you have the problem of your ac not turning on in the house, you won't have to call the AC repair company and spend $200 to fix it. Just use our 2 tips here to unclog your AC drain line pipe.
AC float switch keeps tripping
So if your ac float switch keeps tripping and your ac float switch keeps filling with water, fear not because not after watching our AC repair tips, you'll have this problem fixed in no time. As long as you have an AC float switch filling up with water, you'll have an ac not turning on at all.

Very good demo and liked that you suggested several methods and pointed out that the problem tends to repeat itself. I would say your recommendation of once a year is not aggressive enough. Most recommend flushing out the line when you change your filters. Also, it would be best to mention to turn off the unit power switch and the circuit breaker when you opened up the unit to get a look at the pan. Most know but obviously some may not realize . Overall, great video

Hi Jeff, you may not see this comment a year later, but I’ll give it a shot. You may be able to split your hose in half in order for the hose to slip into the ‘T’ in the direction you want it to go. There maybe enough purchase with the hose to not allow much water to flow the opposite direction. Would it be ok to place a ball valve in line so the back flow doesn’t enter back into the AC drip pan? I have been vacuuming my drain out every two months. I’m glad you showed us how to flush it with a hose. I was able to actually clean my pipe. Afterwards, I poured Clorox down the pipe. In a few days I’ll flush it with the hose again. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge. God bless

What we do nowadays that works well is get a shop vac to the outside of your house where the pipe is, put the vacuum hose over the pipe and tape it sealed shut or cup with your hand to seal it, and turn on the vac for 10 seconds, and that usually clears it right up.

You want to avoid clogged A/C drain lines then get rid of the P Trap, you want an air trap instead from DES Champs Technologies. The problem with P Traps is they create slime that plugs up the P Trap. The Air Trap is dry so no slime build up. The second thing you need to do is put a cup of white vinegar in the drain line by the air handler, the vinegar will combat slime build up.

I connect my water hose to the outside drain pipe and a wet/dry vacuum to the inside flush out and turn on the two at the same time at full power for a few seconds until the wet/dry is filled,you won't believe the slime that comes out.That was the whole line is cleaned...but you can also have slime build up in your pan,so it's good to open up and take a look,you can also pour water and bleach mix where the float cut off switch is,that way it goes into the pan and kill the bacteria that causes the slime and will slowly leak out the drain line.

Good stuff. I'm in Texas so AC issues are no joke. Our house is relatively new and has a primary drain line that is hooked into the sink in the guest bathroom and a secondary that exits out the side of the house. There are basically two pans. One in the unit and another under the unit so it looks like the secondary drain line and float vale is on the lowest pan. I'm assuming that its a redundancy in case the internal pan spills over due to a clog in the main. The kicker of it all is that you can't even access the primary pan because the HVAC installers sealed off the evap coil box to the blower motor with some mastic tape/glue. It sucks because I would like to drop in a few of those bio tablets in there to help keep the film from growing. At the very least I'd like to be able to check the coils as given the humidity I think they have been icing over.

Thanks Jeff for providing me the link to this video. I vacuumed the AC drain line yesterday, and I have been monitoring it today. In fact, this morning, I actually used a bottle of water and ran the water through the ac drain line from the inside, and then I ran outside to check if the water or drips of water are coming. I did the see water coming out of the AC drain line, which is a good sign. It probably needed to collect a little water before the water level reaches the opening for the condensate drain line? I am going to vacuum the AC drain line one more time today, just in case. What is your recommendation of how long should I leave the vacuum on to drain the AC line? Yesterday, I only vacuumed for less than 20 seconds because once I opened my wet/dry shop vacuum, I saw at least 2 inches of water in there. I wasn't sure if I needed to vacuum the AC drain line longer. I also reviewed the float switch, and I used my leveler to verify the slope on the AC line from inside the house as you've demonstrated in the video. All checks have been confirmed. I haven't opened the panel to review the AC pan yet because the set up is similar to what you've experienced with that AC unit in your video. It's like a mission. I'll let you know if I am faced with any other issues. Thanks again, Jeff. Appreciate the great intel. Kudos to the Mandalorian nod. This is the way.

I've heard from a AC guy that bleach is very bad for the AC coils if you get it on them (corrosion). The steps that Jeff demonstrated is exactly what AC guys do. If the clog is really bad, they can use special drain cleaners made especially for ACs that are safe for coils. But again, using the steps Jeff demoed will do the trick.

Jeff, just saw this video. I’m currently studying HVACR and only 4 months in and my A/C stopped running. I actually did everything you did but let me ask, the pan (or as I like to call it the canal that runs around the bottom of the coil get all that gunk buildup. Isn’t it also good to run the vacuum in that canal/pan and perhaps pour a little chlorine to clean the lines? I hope you can answer my Q. Thank you.

Hi Jeff, thank you for the info. I just did what you informed us, but the inside a/c unit still doesn't work. It makes a little noise like when you originally shut the unit off. It sounds like the motor doesn't start full power. When the unit stopped working was turning on, but having a little bit of problem starting. Then was working for a few hours & shutdown. If I waited a few hours, it will start again & shutdown again. Until one day, stopped working, but you can hear the sound like when you shut it down. I guess it's hard to explain. Maybe the motor went bad or something. 😏

What about a/c working great but no condensation coming out of drains ? There is no water backed up or leaking at the airhandlers in the attic. I pulled out level switch and its bone dry also. Maybe due to low humidity of 8% right now here in Arizona. Maybe once monsoon season starts it will start to condensate. Right now I get about a cup a day out of the drain pipe.

@@jeffostroff thank you for responding. They said the way it’s piped, it’s causing it to become blocked by piping in walls. I thought odd but I did buy a flip house with major other water issues. The AC cuts off until it drains which takes 2-5 days. Then turns on for 3-4 days. I went in attic with a ladder once and sadly there are no floors, only beams but I did see the plastic in pan and insulation on top. The unit piping is on other side So unable to reach side to try and clear. Im going to call a new HVAC company. I do use shop vac outside but only gets some water.

I have two large PVC pipes on the outside of my house which water doesn't drip out. The drain I have is next to the furnace and drains off into sump pump. I don't know how to get that section off to look at it🤔

Did you try to blow out the pipes leading from The unit to see if maybe there's something wrong on there? Or maybe you can put your shot back on the output side outside the house and try vacuuming out. I just did it on my pipes the other day because the AC was clogging and backing up and water was dripping through my ac filter.

Single story home, AC unit in hallway. The condensate line is clear, but the side outlet which is the overflow outlet attached to the drain pan continues to leak on top of the half height water heater below it. The only opening I have is the part where I replace the AC filter. There's only like 4 inches of clearance on the side of the AC (which is where that outlet is leaking). I'm at a loss. Any ideas?
@jeffostroff

Need to see more specifically where the drip is coming from on that part, but usually the PVC parts will leak because whoever cemented the 2 PVC parts together failed to use primer, so it leaks at the joint.

@@jeffostroff Thanks! It's a Trane & the evaporator coils are upside-down, V shaped instead of A / tent shaped. The 3/4" outlet isn't a PVC pipe. It's metal & I think it's part of the component at the bottom of the V. Hope that makes sense. If not, thanks for the feedback regardless.

@jeffostroff
@jeffostroff 3 жыл бұрын
if it is freezing even changing filters, and if the pan is not overflowing from a clog, your likely problem is the amount of pressure of refrigerant in the system.
@chazsmith4351
@chazsmith4351 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffostroff I am curious what that indicate not enough or too much refrigerant? I had a new AC installed a week and a half ago in Oregon and yesterday was the first real test of the system. The condensate pump wasn't able to handle the load for whatever reason and I had to manually dump the reservoir every one and a half to two hours keep the system working. I have a call into the company that installed it but they're going to be very popular with the high temps we are now experiencing.

Jeff, can dirty coils cause the tray underneath my unit to fill with dripping water?
@Charles-in3zt
@Charles-in3zt 2 жыл бұрын
I need the answer to this as well. My unit is in our attic and although the condensate line is dripping water outside, the tray below the unit over time fills with water and there is an overflow that drains into the garage. I vacuumed the outside with a wetvac and thought because it pulled some water I was good. But over the next 2 days the pan filled up again and the overflow started dripping again. The PVC pipe that is the normal condensate drain line sits above the tray a good 2 or 3 inches and without taking the cover off the unit (where it is situated in the attic it would be extremely hard to get it off) I don't know if there is a tray above the tray (so to speak). I just thought if the condensate line is dripping and moving through the PVC how is some of it even getting to the overflow tray beneath it? The only thing I can figure is the condensate line is not removing quite as much as is being created. I don't have a cleanout.

If your coils are dirty enough it will cause your system to freeze. If it freezes the water will not travel where it is designed to go and it will find its way to your 2nd drip pan.

We have tried various old wives tricks over the years, none of the work, no Draino, no vinegar and baking soda to make it foam up, no bleach. If you have a clog, the only thing that plows through it is water pressure or air pressure. Those are your only options that work.
