I came off my bicycle 30 years ago exactly in the same circumstances as you and broke my collar bone. It healed and still looks slightly crooked but not a problem. Last week I came of my motorbike riding on sand and landed on my shoulder causing AC joint separation (level 3-4). I never felt any pain - still don’t. But I know the damage due to the bump on the shoulder and gap below clavicle. I learnt a lot more from your video here - more than my consultant was able to tell me. So “it will never heal” and bump will never go away. Oh well at least now I have matching shoulders - more or less 😂. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I crashed with my dirt bike going about 20 mph and landed on my right shoulder. Stage 5 separation. No surgery and got my range of motion back. I can sleep on my shoulder after about 6 weeks. Gonna work on building up my muscle around it. Was told I shouldn’t need surgery because I still had some strength and was able to move it around like normal. Definitely got to be extra careful with my shoulder from here on out. 👍.

Great video. I did my right shoulder 18 months ago. I didn't know what to do and had to carry on working as I'm self employed. I didn't get medical advice as I knew they would tell me to stop using my arm, and maybe suggest surgery? I kept going, got back on bike within 10 days, and gradually things improved. I still have the lump on my shoulder (just like yours) but now I'm riding more than ever with no discomfort. I turned 55 recently. Keep up the good work.... Thanks

I'm with you, Brother. I worked as a carpenter for 10 years, self-employed, and my current job cannot be done in a sling. I'm now at 6 months and am probably 95%. It pops when I move my arm in front of my chest but no pain, so that's good. I've come to embrace my lump as a well-earned battle scar 😅 Thanks for watching!

Hi Steve, Thanks for the video. I am 50/15 also! I recently completely refurbished my 1983 Schwinn Predator that I used to BMX race when I was a kid. I got the new Sugino crank put on(final touch) and decided to ride around a bit. Nothing crazy, just pedaling. I was wheeling slowly in my yard and went to turn around, something went wrong and down I went...HARD. I ended up with a grade 3/4 left acromioclavicular separation that required surgery(10 days ago). We have not begun physther yet( I still have all of my stitches). I believe that the impact on the left radiated through to the right as I am experiencing stiffness and pain all the way across. I get some spasms/twitching in my surgery site sometimes and the pain is manageable. I am self employed (paintless dent removal) and I used my arms and shoulders to full extent and beyond on a daily basis. My recovery and rehab are going to be a bit more extensive methinks. I do believe that I will be back to work and play(4 handicap golfer) by next spring, but I expect I will be re-learning alot. thanks again, your video is encouraging! Brad

I did this on a dirtbike on a 90 foot tabletop. I landed so very hard and i was going so fast and i fell just like you did. I was in so much pain but orignally thought it was out of place and i tried putting it back with a towel and two guys pulling it dorectly after it happend. Holy crap it was dumb. I was like 20. I never got it fixed and i didnt want to go through a mess of a surgery after 3 months of healing and i am able todo everything pretty well. I ripped the ac joint the same exact way. Mine looks nasty especially when i pift my shoulder and the coller bone sticks up. I cant believe you were back on your bike so quick. Damn. It took me 3 months to be able to do anything and i was young and just layed in bed all day and did small exercises every hour or two. But it was so painful. Not like my foots injury though. I had a Lis Franc fracture that ripped all my midfoot metatarsal apart and shattered all the bones and twisted my foot 270° after getting in a wreck and my foot got trapped under the dashboard and i rolled and gor tossed. It was bad pain, but then i had surgery with screws and plates and a bar in my ankle and when i woke up and the nerve block started to wear off i was absolutly miserable like 3 days. I thiught i was going to die. Puking and screaming and yelling and crying for three days straught. I couldnt sleep and couldnt move and could inly scream and cry and vomit and i did all three for 3 days straight with absilutly no stopping ever. I finally passed out on the 4th day in the early morning and the oxycodone was staying down with a gulp of water instead of me just puking it back up instantly. I got some weed and took oxys for months and months straight. I was bed ridden for 7 months unable to get up wxcept qhen i would crawl very carefully with my leg in an apparatus and i had to keep my foot and leg raised up while i crawled slowly to fently shower myself with help from my girlfriend at the time. So embarassing. It was extremly painful. Adte 7 months i was able to use crutches and was still taking hydrocodone instead of oxy at that pont at 10mg four times a day and i started really getting involved with drugs hard. Coke and alcohol mostly but also some mushrooms and molly and club drugs mostly. I ended uo with a 200,000 dollar settlement for the wreck and i had some fun and went crazy. Haha. Then saved the rest. I would trade the money for my foot back though. Worst pain of my oife and i have been on methadone pretty much since i stopped that regimen of meds from that accident with only a fewonths in between stopping the hydrocodone and going onto methaodne and the pain is terrible still. I am limping to the shower this morning but with the help of the methadone i am able to blast through it and the shoulder and foot and my lower back dont hurt so bad that i am unable to do the work i do fir at least 5 hours a day because that is avout all i can take each day before i crash out. That is the worst thing about the three injuries. The stamina I once had is completly gone and i cant work a full day without passing out right after i eat and i wont wake up until like noon or later the next day and i will be worthless and unable to move or work and i will have to lay back down right after i speep until noon amd baby myself until that night and then pass out and sleep until 6am but then i can get away with some more work. Not 8 hours or anything itherwise i will just start the cycle again but 4-5 hours is max. Eapeciallly painting, woodwork, flooring, remodeling, and the random landscaping I do qith a rental unit i own on the beach and side work that i do on the side.

I actually went down hard on my road bike at 45 mph and did this. Only had an X-ray so far but, being no stranger to this type of injury (unfortunately) I can tell everything is in its proper place. Definitely sprained the joint but range of motion is decent and after a week it’s getting better. 6 weeks ago did the same thing on the right shoulder but not as bad.

I am at the end of the 3rd month after my martial arts accident. Got a level 2 or 3 AC separation (no MRI). Ended 4 weeks of PT and will re evaluate in 3 days. My concern now is a popping on my shoulder that could be a bad sign. I hope no surgery will be necessary. I only feel pain during certain specific movements. I did mine about 2.5 years ago. The doctors say I am doing fine because I can pass the simple tests they give me. However, one of my other passions is gymnastics and doing things like parallel bars or pommel horse is still very difficult. The shoulder makes a lot of grinding noise and can become sore quickly. I think I am still making progress but it's hard work. At least my biking is no longer affected.

@@HelljumperNo13 hey man, thank you for reaching out. I guess I am in month six now. I have full mobility and use of that arm. I am a contractor. I do have a large lump on that shoulder, so I guess my modeling career is over. But as far as function goes, I am fine. I am following a light weight, lifting routine. I have met people that went for the full operation and several years later they don’t seem to be better often anyway besides not having the lump. So it seems to be a very personal decision. I cannot afford six months to a year‘s downtime from having that heavy surgery done to put the collarbone back in place. Plus, I watched some surgeries online and they really cut up a lot of valuable tissue to do that. so, in summation, I’d say there’s no easy answer. I have seen several reviews that show as far as function for that third grade shoulder separation those that do surgery are not better off functionally later on. Hope that helps.

I told my doctor I’d be happy if I can ride my bike 🚴, go back to the gym, go for a run, and be able to swim again. I have since been able to do all of the above. Thank you for this video. I'm 5 weeks since getting my AC grade 5 joint injury. We appear a bit more laid back regarding treatment here in the UK. I had to wait 6 days to see a doctor at the fracture clinic, x-rayed and told I would receive a follow-up telephone call after 3 months. No treatment at all. I am looking at joining a gym to get some advice regarding exercise (no physio here either). Reassuring to hear your story and I'll be off to a good gym tomorrow to help build the shoulder muscle up. That bump can look horrible and takes some getting used to.

Its been five years since my AC injury I'm doing great...true dat the first 2weeks its hasal but I had the drive of I can get over it the worst being not able to gym if opt for surgery was big no so I did the basic of the knee pushups 3 a day became five then 10,so I knew then am getting my old self back.then did air chest straight punches for a minute each day it helped doing upper body work outs everyday in 6weeks I was 100%. Discomfort will be the problem if you work the injured side to much.the Lumps there but its nothing I can still hit heavy lifting not to much as before but trying to keep strong oh and I only feel pain on the injured side when I travel altitude got something do with it is strange but monitored it and definitely my hunch was right 3rd time I experience it same area I had travelled to..but its just couple of minutes then am fine.upper body cardio workout helps

Sounds just like my progress. Little at a time and you'll eventually get back. There are a few movements I should not do because they will make me hurt the next day. I've figured out a really good workout program that keeps my upper body strong ( I think I actually look better because of the tons of low weight/high rep training I've done for the last year) and pain free. Good luck!

Strong gusts of wind killed my launch speed, knuckled the landing and momentum flipped me off the crest of the landing ramp knuckle onto my shoulder pretty much like your crash footage. Four days into this after the X rays confirmed no broken bones. I came up with a pretty effective tape job I did myself with ace tape to hold it down. I'd suggest looking into injectable peptide therapy. It's what most athletes are using nowadays to recover very quickly. Try finding a practitioner, possibly an anti-aging clinic or something like that, that will help you out. BPC-157 and TB500 can heal ligament/tendon issues in a matter of a few weeks. Studies show BPC-157 can cause tendons to re-attach to bones. Probably would have been more beneficial at the early stage of your recovery but may still help some even now. If you're interested and want more resources, just let me know.

My pain started suddenly when doing my regular push ups at about the 3rd and 4th pushup which normally have been a 20 rep pushup that I've did for 22 years. As time passed I had a couple sterioid injections which relieved the pain for a few weeks. Saw some videos on YT on how to help shoulder pain which was hanging from a pull up bar and after a few weeks of that I now have the hump you have. I quit the hanging and would not recommend it at all.

nice update, well explained as always.👍👌💪 I want to get neck brace to protect my neck, to keep me even saver, but I doubt I will do a injury like this, I got pretty good at knowing what I can and cant do, and bail in a crash, but things can happen even then, but I tuck and roll, but I've hit my shoulder once, but no injury, just scratches, not tried protective west yet. I make sure I never have crashes like this, never put my hands out like that, never create lot of force on my shoulders. But I will probably crash in the future, but not like this. I hope you will not push your self as much so far, keep doing the gradual progression you are doing now, it's the best way to stay safe a long with protection, but protection can't save you from this type of injury.
@TrailBreaker
@TrailBreaker 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm also looking into a neck brace myself. As to the arms during my crash, if I hadn't used my hands to turn my upper body (I landed on my shoulder with my hands near my waist) I would have landed on my face. I basically did one complete roll and came up on my feet. I thought I got away without injury at first, but, sadly no :-)
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 4 жыл бұрын
@@TrailBreaker oh, OK, maybe early roll attempt could have saved it who knows, I don't like gapjump unless it's safr, but you probably climbed the difficulty ladder too fast. Not sure if it was possible to ot injury shoulder there, how you crashed. Maybe if you just slid forward like in a swimming pool slide, I don't know, if possible landing on feet could work too, but not in this case you got so low and close at a extreme angle it was not much you could do.

@@JakeEatNow after a year and a half now, I can do everything that I used to do okay (started doing it all after 4months but with pain). as time passed, The pain during and post training has now been reduced to a minimum and doesn t prevent me from doing anything really. My shoulder will never be the same of course. I can t lift weight as much as I did in the past and the most painful movement that I thought I d never been able to do again was dips. I had to use elastic bands first to reduce my weight. Now I can do them at body weight and it feels ok, but I wouldn't add weights on this movements. Pull ups are fine even loaded with quite a lot of weights. Boxing is also okay, I d say fast movements and rapid angle changes when punching is what makes it sometimes a bit inconfortable when sparring, but it s still manageable. In any case I confirm it takes more than a year to slowly heal, and I still feel like the pain is getting reduced with time. I never really stopped training, up to 10-15h a week. Staying active and use your shoulder is probably the best to heal and make it stronger. Muscles will compensate the loss of the ligaments. I hope it helps and that you ll get better soon.
