It's easier to just pull the y signal & let g bring the blower on. With the 16 pin icm motors if you jump the 1 & 3 pins to common & the 12 & 15 to 24v hot. It will test the board. It will make it run at 75%. But it's usually the module bad. Motor is usually fine.

It looks like the return air is too small. and when you get fluffy ice on the evaporator coil it"s usually is a sign that the system is running way to cold. the reason I say that is the moisture in the air doe's not have time to condense into water and starts to freeze..If you have clear ice that is a sign that the water is condensing but is still too cold. And that compressor is a Copeland compressor just painted a different color. It uses to be if you peel the sticker off the Trane compressor it would have a Copeland tag.

When you experience repeated crashing , try double tapping the home button to bring up the running apps. Swipe up on the ones that are taking measurements or all of them. Then restart the app. By force closing the app that you had taking measurements previously, you will cause it to "release" the connection to the Bluetooth tools. The crash appears to happen when the second application attempts to make a "second connection" shortly after you select your "tools". I don't work in HVAC so I am not familiar with the tools or the apps, just a hunch.

Bad airflow the blower speed coil for tap 1 stopped working and they left the air on. So once air flow stops superheat drops. Evap coil starts icing and suction pipe goes below freezing. It just keeps freezing up until shit off and thawed out like the old freezers. I was able to get a different motor speed to work yet ordered a new motor

You say the contactor is being replaced, are the contacts burned closed, keeping it running constantly? Or are you just making unnecessary steps? looked to me like the 24v common was connected to the case/ground directly or something is shorting it to ground directly when you was testing the 24 and going from the blower relay to case, making it not read right or zero on the one side. best practice for low voltage testing is always going from both the transformer common and 24v terminals to the components being tested and forget about to case/ground unless you're looking for a short, it may or may not have the common bonded to case. testing from both transformer terminals to case would show if it's bonded or shorted. the low voltage "common" was also on one end of the plug with the line voltage to ECM motor, which is why there was only a single other low voltage to speed tap terminals. I have an advantage in electrical/electronics area and can quickly figure that unit without schematics, but boy are they nice to have, more so when you cannot easily trace the wiring! so I'm not yelling you're doing it wrong =p

My usual AC man sent his 22 year old son to our house to fix our AC. We were told by dad that the coils needed to be replaced (we stupidly left the front AC on while working on this house 2 years ago, so I understand it was probably paint and saw dust...our bad). We paid him 300 bucks (under warranty) to do the job, then he sends his kid to replace them. The kid appeared knowledgeable, but the very next day we still had no AC in the front part of the house (we have 2 units, large house). So, he comes again and says we have a leak. He fixes the leak and then mentions some wires were not properly done...and he "fixed them." Claimed our electric bill should be less since "blah, blah, blah" will work properly now. He also mentioned there was a "hi and low" setting and that ours were on low. He asked if I wanted them high (we live in Florida), so of course I was like, "hell yeah, turn those babies up!" Here we are a week later and the front unit inside the house and outside are frozen up!!! Could the fact that he turned them up to hi be why this happened? If so, he needs to come and turn the other unit down to low before that bad boy freezes up. I will not live in my house without AC...not even an option! We have a window unit, but it only covers 1800 or so sq. ft. of this house. Not acceptable to me for longer than a day or two. What do you think? TIA
@TheMaster5150
@TheMaster5150 5 жыл бұрын
Air speed for AC is supposed to be on high, and low speed is for heat. I would get somebody else to look at your unit or if you have 2 units. There is a lot different issues that could cause that affect; dampening, registers, ducting, coils, restrictions, low on charge, dirty filters etc.

Their is an oil dipstick just like on a car. Pull it out and check the oil level. When it’s new oil it’s hard to see on the dip stick. Yet you also don’t want to overfill or you can make the air filter soaked with oil. Then no oxygen for the generator to operate.

And upon further watching your video I see a low pressure control on your suction line. If it is working and wired in properly it would prevent any icing up due to low refrigerant charge SO that would mean the contactor is stuck closed allowing the compressor to run constantly even without the blower running which would then make the system ice up due to no air passing through the evaporator coil. THAT would make the system ice up in this manner. Thus, you would examine the points of the contactor and it should show they are burned shut.

Looks like that is a cooling only RTU. If there was heat, Id defrost it that way. Just put a piece of sheet metal to extend the pan if you can get it in there, or put a panel over the supply drop. Dont even see electric strips. Better invest in a heat gun lol. Even with the blower on continuous itll take all day to defrost that iceberg completely.

Thanks for the video's! However, I have an issue, possibly caused by "over-loading" the AC system or " too much demand ". A 5 yr old caused my AC to 'freeze up', using "too much toilet paper". YUP! SHE did it! Here's HOW. 5 yr old, clogged my toilet. THEN, flushed. Toilet kept running, 'OVER-FLOWED', onto my bathroom floor! (insert "Another 'bleachable' moment" video here) This causes, "insurance claim". Remediation team comes out. 2 adjoining (un-insulated doors and attic) spaces either side of 2 floor (upstairs) bathroom are opened up and fans/ heaters/ dehumidifiers are placed along w/ the bathroom and hallway. (total of 4 dehumidifiers/ 6 fans) Doors to the attic spaces, either side of upstairs bathroom, are left open, in opposing 2 bedroom closets upstairs. basically, effectively, MORE than quadrupling the load on the AC from 500 square feet of area to be heated/ cooled to almost 2000 sq. ft. It's the 'end of April' 1st week of May. HOTTER than normal, of course! NOW, the AC system... KEEPS RUNNING to cool the area. SYSTEM is located (return air vent) directly outside the effected bathroom, in the hallway, at the top of the stairs. It gets hotter. Demand is sent to the system to RUN! System in 3rd attic space (not connected to the other 2) FREEZES UP. Fan is running, NO air flow due to ice blockage. System outside.. Keeps trying to do it's part of the demand. Get's HOT. Circuit board overheats. On/Off. On/Off (due to pressure switch). Voltage draw. (On/Off) Is UP/ DOWN. Capacitor fails/ circuit board fails. Downstairs system is NOW carrying the entire house.. PLUS the EXTRA attic spaces. $650+ later in repairs/ checkups/ service calls, on BOTH units. NOW, the 'debate' begins w/ the insurance company. IS THIS CAUSED BY OVER-FLOW/ REMEDIATION of the Insurance claim/ "Remediation" crews action(s)/ inactions. THEY left the doors open to the attic spaces, placing the 'uninsulated' / 'uncooled'/ temperature controlled areas ON THE SYSTEM, causing it to 'attempt' to 'keep up' w/ the demand on BOTH AC SYSTEMS. NOBODY seems to cover this because, 'it's NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. NOT just leaving 1 door open, but 2 doors, NOT to the outside of the house, but, to the OPEN ATTIC where I'm sure, temperatures were above 100 degrees, WITH heaters/ dehumidifiers/ fans. Thoughts?

voltage across an open switch, zero across a closed switch, you can have a feed back with a single pole contactor and by going to ground you will get a feed back and think you are getting proper voltage but you are not, its just feeding though the load, think about that one.

You're either joking or very uneducated. EC fans, which happen to be DC motors, are the most efficient and reliable fans today. Just the savings in electricity alone is enough to choose it over any normal ac fan, let alone the ability to intelligently auto-adjust/vary the speed according to the load, massive reduction in noise, brushless. plus many other benefits.

@Shane Silva Iced up compressor is lack of superheat, liquid refrigerant slugging back to the compressor. This only happens when the evap coil is frozen. Deposition instead of sub-cooling taking place on the evaporator and suction line. Also, heat pumps are never found on RTU's around here. To your comment where you stated I should of turned the heat on.

Why do you start pulling wires off the contactor and capacitor? Your first determination should be made to see if you have control power to your contactor coil. Then to see if the points are burned closed which would keep the compressor running constantly. Then check the blower motor to see if it’s running or not, no fan will make a system ice up quickly. But don’t just start pulling wires and say a relay is bad without a few visual checks first. You’re guessing without some definite answers and you’re doing unnecessary steps.
@thehvachacker
@thehvachacker 3 жыл бұрын
A blower motor not running will make a system ice quickly. You should try it. It's how to look for a restriction in an evaporate coil. Experience will help you find problems and skip over steps you feel you can skip. Sometimes you can always go back and check. Everyone does a service call differently, only thing that matters are results. As for the contactor it needs to be replaced wether it was currently causing a problem or not. Points were burnt, just a matter of time till it fails. Why not address a worn out part?
