It sounds like it has a dead starting capacitor Also they draw a LOT of current when starting without a starting capacitor so it takes forever to wind up but it still gets up to decent pitch

Except you would either pop your breaker/house fuse or set your house on fire for causing the electrical wiring in your household to start glowing hot. Now that wouldn't sound good with your insurance! LOL. Edit: I know there's probably safer ways to do it, I just wouldn't trust plugging it directly into a 120 volt receptacle, whether or not it would be just fine, for me it's just a safety hazard, but hey! What else would you plug it into? A dryer outlet?

First time i saw one of those, i thought, "damn!, thats one freaky, scary looking contraption! Took me a while to determine it was a tornado siren. And yes, that one has a very looooonnnnnnggggg windup, like the motor start capacitor isnt working.
@stephensnell57074 ай бұрын
More than likely it has a starting Capacitor that is blown entirely⚠️
@paulsmith53984 ай бұрын
@@stephensnell5707 yeah, a start capacitor is probably much cheaper to replace than the whole, complete weird-looking Allertor, ive only seen two of them in my lifetime, until i started watching KZbin. But one of them was in Canada, so it may have been a B & N Mobil Directo, the other was in Hillsboro Illinois.
@LZGAjeepslav7996 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the start capacitor is shot and the run capacitor has to do all the work. The run cap can’t pull the motor up to speed from a stop because it’s not supposed to. Not good on the run cap, motor or rotation mechanism.

ItzSuper Not underpowered. Phase converter is bad
@childishtombino12757 жыл бұрын
It seems to be the Start Cap in the motor starter that is causing this. Meaning this siren is Single phase (fyi)
@SWMOWoodsman7 жыл бұрын
Mr.Someone \Tom/ This siren is actually three phase, it's just running off of a phase converter. The phase converter is starting to go bad. If it were single phase, the start/run capacitors wouldn't get it up to speed like it does in this video
@childishtombino12757 жыл бұрын
Okay, that makes sense. I didn't take into mind the fact that the Run cycle was non-existent, it was just start. So a dodgy phase converter makes sense

What the heck? I haven't heard an allertor that sick since that one in Manty Wisconsin that eventually got replaced! I wonder why it's so underpowered? Depending whether it's at an A series or B series, it's either a phase is open or a capacitor is bad, but the capacitor could go bad in either type of alertor if I'm not mistaken. There's a chance too the motor could be dying but I'm not positive afar what it would sound like then.
@ArxCyberwolfPC Жыл бұрын
Allertors don't have series, and three phase units don't have capacitors. This is a single phase unit with absolutely screwed caps.
@awesomegaming8617 Жыл бұрын
@@ArxCyberwolfPC The three phase units really don't have caps? That's interesting, I figured it was some kind of capacitor fault, I wasn't sure if it was a single phase or not until now looking back. Anyway, thanks for the info!
