I built this kit and my personal comments are: Pros: good subject, great decals, exellent overall shape and extensive armament options. CONS: overly complicated engineering; way too many parts (totally unnecessary!); poor fit in various sections: wing/fuselage joint, tail section, elevators, intakes, outer wings and landing gear. General conclusion: Not worth it, definetly stick to the Hasegawa kit!

Brings back memories like it was not long ago----I was in VF-102 DIAMONBACKS 1964 thru 1966----on the Enterprise, then we moved to the America--Don't believe VF-102 was on the Independance while Flying Phantom's? As for the nose cone, that is more like what we saw on Marine and Air Force Phantom's, our aircraft had a round Radar protruding from the lower front of the nose cone. Very distinctive profile. The graphics are mostly wrong---no Air Force markings----3 small Diamonds on top of the fuselage, not one big one--we usually had a Diamondback Rattlesnake on the tail. No clue what the missiles are----we only had sidewinders and sparrows non withstanding underbelly bomb racks--------I could keep going with details----------------

Thank you for sharing. I just saw the new TopGun movie and am looking to build an F4.

Nice finish. I think light gull grey is one of those colours that can look completely different depending on the light/environment. I've built one of these Academy kits and I have to say, apart from the lovely surface detail, I'd still rather build a hasegawa f-4 in 1/48.

Looks very nice. I have seen a lot of builds on the tube and in my opinion many of them are over weathered, this one does not appear to be that way.

Would you say its an improvement on the hasagawa kit?, or better?....

Haven’t built the Hasegawa kit, so I’m afraid I can’t comment.
