The dagger fight in the background is very entertaining

The video to show that guy in your D&D group that says, "Rapier and shield is unrealistic."
@Songoftiffany Жыл бұрын
I thought at first that the Sam would have the reach , but Ester holds herself beautifully and makes an incredibly small target area in the way she keeps her shield tight and close . I feel like size truly does not matter in this sport . Beautiful

Interesting how it sort of breaks down into a saber and shield v arming sword and shield fight.
@kingkilburn6 жыл бұрын
Both fencers seem to assess the other as impenetrable. Perhaps you have to give a target with the shield to open up the defense of the supposed attacker.

Even though he has advantage of reach, her technique is excellent. Well done, Esther.

LindyBeige just did a great comparision on Spear V Sword, what do you think ?
@AcademyofHistoricalFencing6 жыл бұрын
Yep, his findings are exactly what we have found as well. I must talk about the subject more, as we do a lot of melee work. Carrying spears to training can be a pain so we only do it occasionally, but I will endeavour to film more.

Never did that kind of fencing but... What I see is on the right a girl with a good posture, calm, reactive... On the left, a guy that seem not so calm and not such good posture. My guess is the girl got more experience ! :o

Indeed, years more experience.

Is that the destroyer modz shield? And if so what is your opinion of it?
@AcademyofHistoricalFencing6 жыл бұрын
No it isn't, its a British police riot shield covered in leather. We wouldn't ever have reason to get the Destroyer Modz ones as when shipping and duties and included, we can get steel ones like in this video for the same price.

first! gonna edit this comment when finished watching tho edit: i have 2 questions 1. is Sam left handed or is he just using his left arm? 2. how heavy/big is Sam's riot shield? great video!
@AcademyofHistoricalFencing6 жыл бұрын
He is left handed. I haven't weighed it, but probably about 1kg based on others I have owned. Riot shields are much lighter than original rotella, but they offer a cheap and easy option to get in to it.

She is using a lot of hacks Is she training a lot with buckler and sword
@AcademyofHistoricalFencing6 жыл бұрын
Yes, and a lot with Viking type sword and shield too. But nothing wrong with using plenty of cuts with rapier. Plenty of it in the treatise.
@Est2926 жыл бұрын
I do, it’s my favourite style, I’m a lot more thrust centric when not using a rotella though! I was just a little out of my comfort zone vs a tall leftie with a shield I’m not used to using! :)

@@Est292 Looks awesome. Much thanks to the channel owner (Nick, right?) & HEMA people like you guys. I do have a question though; are the shields in this video heavy or light? At first sight, they look heavy, but you guys use it quite effortlessly.
@AcademyofHistoricalFencing6 жыл бұрын
The steel shield Esther is using is mine (NIck), and is 3.2kg, a typical weight for historical examples. The other is light, as its a leather covered police riot shiekl, around 1kg or so.
