Is it possible to mod old Wii guitars too? I have a few of those guitars, they look similar to the one at 10:30 but not quite the buttons don't have the black(I also don't have the stickers). One of them doesn't work at all(the Wii plug is completely broken), one of them works but is tricky, and one of them is totally fine. I was wondering if it's possible to bring those back to life. I bought two riffmasters because I haven’t been able to play guitar hero in over a decade and watching for over 6 years, and the Riffmaster working for Fortnite festival AND native YARG support has made it incredible to come back to the GH/RB community instead of only watching it. Now I’m able to play the biggest library of music with my girlfriend or friends when they’re in the mood. I completely agree Acai, it’s a great time to be in the community!

I think the one thing missing from this was a mention of the PolyBar and MiniBar projects, for building your own guitars from scratch. If you have a 3D printer and some electronics skills, you don’t need to upgrade an old guitar controller; you can produce your own shell and add electronics to it to make whatever you want the guitar to look like. Personally, I bought a Riffmaster, in as much to show that there is demand for new controllers (with official licenses and auth capabilities), but also as I like the feel of the RB guitars; I also built a Pico adapter (Santroller) to have it work on other consoles (like the RCM V3 shown in the video, just with less Wii capability and a less solid case). I’ve been using it to play RB3DX lately. Theoretically, I wouldn’t even have had to build the adapter; I could have just bought an Adafruit RP2040 Feather USB and used that.
@DJVevyVevsАй бұрын
I can appreciate that, but I feel this guide is meant more for the layman trying to get in. Even the DIY kits are solder-less and have clear instructions
@acai28Ай бұрын
Right, this video is also about the things that I have first hand experience with too. The custom guitar controller and DIY projects are things that are an entirely different space that I am not knowledgeable on yet, but in the future I WILL be talking about 👍🏾 This video is really meant for the easiest ways to get into the game and how to do it in simple ways
@DragRedSimАй бұрын
That’s fair enough; I only mentioned these because they were things I know about, and related to the topic of getting something that works. I just feel it isn’t too far of a step from modding older guitars to replace their electronics, to creating brand new devices; and for some, that may be the easier option, depending on what’s out there in their local area. I can understand not necessarily wanting to vouch for projects you don’t have first-hand experience with; and creating a controller is certainly not as simple as buying one off the shelf. For those who have the skill set, however, it’s likely to continue being a viable option into the future, long after the last Riffmaster comes off the production line; and that’s why I felt it worthy of mentioning.

I love my RetroCultMods adapters! Bought one and it was so great I bought a second to have a spare. Disappointed you didn't mention Roll Limitless though. They're not just for drums anymore. They're becoming universal adapters just like the RCM adapter. The 2nd gen ones currently available can be used on basically any console (or PC) and can be switched to use with either drums or guitar. The 3rd gen ones that aren't quite out yet, however, are really going to be great. They will have bluetooth built into the adapter which allows you to connect it to a PC to either change settings, change the firmware, or broadcast the controller outputs to your stream. (The current 2nd gen adapters due also support bluetooth functionality, you just have to connect a bluetooth dongle in a hub with your ps/xbox controller, it's a little wonkier. The new ones are so much slicker.) The full adapter is a bit expensive, $100, that includes an old Midi port for drums. If you're not using drums though or just connect your drums with USBmidi, there's a mini version for half the price. Only real difference is it's missing that legacy midi port.

You either have to spend a lot of money on official hardware that breaks during shipping (or within 1 full zeptosecond of use), or pay a morgage on a midi drumkit that will actually do it's job for a long time.

I'm fairly new to the Guitar Controller area, been playing Festival ever since launch and finally was able to start up the physical guitar shenanigans. I managed to get a Kramer Striker at a thrift shop for like $13. I think it's one of those that you aren't *supposed* to recommend, but it's honestly been working really well for me. I got an adapter for like $50, there's zero input delay, and I've been using the JoyToKey software to get the inputs to work, and FUCK the amount of customization you can pull off with that software is incredible. I can bind a Shift key or two and then be completely separated from my setup and be able to navigate my whole computer. It's just a joystick emulation software, so it's chill to use on Festival as well. The only problem I've had with it so far is that, after testing it a bit, it does seem to get stuck on some inputs after using it for a long play session, but it goes back to normal the next time I use it. To my knowledge, the Kramer Striker is a guitar that people often modify, so I might just end up messing around with that (with a bunch of tutorials that is since idfk what I'd be doing lmao), but overall, it feels nice to use, with the only other caveat being that the Overdrive/Hero Power button is a little awkward to hit, ALTHOUGH that could just be from inexperience on my end. Tl;dr been using a thrift store Kramer Striker, technically there's better options out there but for me it's been pretty nice 👍

Glad I got my ps2 classic red controllers for 2 years ago goodwill prices, can vouch for this guide he literally did all the research for me. I’m a noob and am 100% knew it would be hard for me to enjoy the game if it was expensive.

RCMs solderless kit is super tempting right now I am using their 2.0 wii adapter because I am not a tilt enjoyer. It's also insane that GH guitars are still going into charity shops by me, got two from there super cheap

I can't believe I gave my modded one to my ex. I've got a Wii one with a raffnet adapter I'm yet to mod but the fact I gave up the one I modded myself (Nothing fancy, just shims and double strum trick learned from Ukog) makes me really kick myself. It had my original gh3 internals put into a fresh, clean shell. I hope he is enjoying and taking care of it and using it like he should be

100% back this (ALSO- for Riffmaster, behind the pickguard is a slot for the USB to go! weird that its hidden but that should keep a lot from losing their dongle)

Thanks for the helpful guide. I know you've done a few of these now, but now that there are adapters for just about everything makes it simpler. My Wii guitar is still in good shape, except I've had to use a rubber band on the whammy bar. It's keeping it in place with no stress on the internals, and it works great. But now that I know I have a new option to get it working on my Xbox 360 makes me want to get this other adapter and try playing the console games again.

Internationally (Im from Chile) I was able to get a riffmaster from Amazon! It can be even cheaper than used guitars in this side of the globe. Been having a blast in RB4 and Fortnite Festival on my PS5

For the past several years I've been using a RB1 Stratocaster for the Xbox 360 with Byte Arts' Strum Fix Plus 2 mod. But I've recently upgraded to their Strum Fix Plus 4 and FretFix mods. it makes quite a difference, especially the strum bar. Because honestly the stock RB strum bar is kind of crappy.
