I'm not gonna lie, I am a die hard metalhead, but these old hymns always soothe my soul and remind me of my childhood. Maybe it is Jesus speaking to me or just my fond recollections of home and yearning for simpler times, but I always have tears in my eyes when I listen to such beautiful music. My dear Brother in the Lord Jesus Christ, I want You to know Your music ministry is truly a blessing. Our Heavenly Father has given You an amazing gift with which You are ministering the Gospel worldwide. I just want You to know Your singing of these wonderful old hymns touches my old heart spiritually and a solace and encouragement to my soul. Listening to this hymn brings back memories of all the times I have “…proved Him ore and ore…”. The Lord Jesus is all we should want or need. You singing is preaching and teaching the Gospel. Stay strong in the Lord. God bless and keep You continually in His loving care. Your ministry reminds me of the admonition of the Apostle Paul to young Timothy- 2 Timothy 4:2 - “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”

The author of this hymn, Louisa Stead was on a picnic with her husband and daughter in 1882. They were near the ocean when they heard the cry of a young boy who was in the water and in trouble. Louisa's husband went into the water to rescue the boy. As a result, both the boy and Mr. Stead drowned. This accident left Mrs. Stead without a husband and an income as well. She had to raise her daughter alone. After this happened a number of miracles occurred where Mrs. Stead and her daughter's needs where met. As a result, she wrote this hymn which Michael has sung so beautifully. You can find the history of this hymn by typing in the title and then add story after it.

It is so encouraging, especially during these times when so many of us are losing loved ones and sharing the mourning of our friends and neighbors, to know that the strength our faith can provide can help us endure and survive these times, healing our broken hearts. 💔 My brother died suddenly April 1st (we do not know the cause of death), so I feel a bit kindred with all those who had to say goodbye to their loved ones in hospital parking lots and couldn’t be with them as they passed. They are all in my prayers every single day. 💗🙏🏻👼🏻✝️😇

My granny was singing this in the hospital days before she died, and we sang it at her funeral. Even at times when her mind had no idea what was going on, she knew where she was going, that she was loved and trusted in the Lord. She would absolutely love this arrangement

Many Christians define the word "Christian" in terms of whether a person has trusted the Lord for forgiveness.
