Yes, welcome to Home Free, masters of all musical genres. Their covers are upgrades, their medleys are brilliant, their collaborations with the original artists are inspirational, and their original songs are masterpieces. Within this 5 man vocal band you have 5 tenors, 5 beat boxers, and 2 bass-baritones. They can do just about anything and they continue to grow and improve, yet they remain so humble. When they have featured guest artist, they support and allow their featured artists to shine. Several of them have their own channels and do some solo work. And just for fun Rob and Austin sing Opera. What else can I say? Their catalogue of work is quite large and continues to grow. I really enjoyed your reaction and thoughts on this song. It is interesting that this song has been your introduction to Home Free. For many people it is Man Of Constant Sorrow, or Ring Of Fire. It doesn't really matter where you start, you are in for an exciting journey and the Home Fries will be there for you all the way.

@@nickforell1 You should check out their cover of the Johnny Cash hit Ring of Fire, featuring Avi from PTX... Tim Foust is the one that Avi went to for help getting his lower Octaves a little deeper... In the video, you have to watch at the end to see the student showing respect to the Master... Tim has a 5 octave range, and working on a 6th... he started out as a tenor in his younger years...

Caution: Home Free is highly addictive. They sing everything from gospel to goofy to utterly heart-breaking. 3 of them are song writers to there are lots of originals. They tour 150-200 shows a year so there's also loads of live videos. Each has channel(s) of their own, with even more originals & covers. They've often collaborated with other singers & bands (The Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, Charlie Daniels, Don McLean, Kenny Rogers & Lee Greenwood among them). Bonus: You'll find your subscriptions rising exponentially with playing them. Love from a new Canadian subscriber.

Teresa, I think Home free is a fabulous group and I enjoy a lot of their stuff. I play Auld Lang Syne every year. The best. I was making comment specifically to unchained melody. I have yet to hear anyone rival Bobby Hatfield. The song is so tempting to cover, but please people, try and resist, unless ya wanna do so in the shower when nobody is listening. 😘

They way I would describe the big three of acapella in high school terms is Pentatonix are the popular kids. Highly polished and each know their role. Voiceplay are the theater kids...polished with highly entertaining dramaric videos. Home Free are the guys hanging out in the parking lot. Tight harmonies and simple videos. Each is unique and really can't be compared. Very possible to enjoy them all. As a group, I would say Home Free defies labels. They consistently switch up their singing style as well as who sings what. That flexibility makes their sound unique. While they lean country they can do pretty much anything from rap to opera and have. They don't take themselves too seriously, allowing us to see their funny side in many videos, but the music never suffers. With over 320 videos, there is always something you can truly enjoy.

Welcome to Home Free rabbit hole. The group started in 2001 by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp They are the only country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they can honestly sing any genre and they do As you know they won The Sing Off season 4 2013 that's where they became very popular. Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries and are very loyal to the guys. Adam Rupp: Beatboxer Extraordinaire -Tenor can make any sound imaginable (A whole drum kit, harmonica (his Nomonica we call it )plane flyovers, trains, castanets, bugs ,birds etc).Co founder from Mankato Minnesota. Rob Lundquist :Lead tenor(beard and glasses) very soulful voice from Minneapolis,Minnesota Tim Foust :Bass (had long dark hair now short with grey ) 5+ octave range can go so low he blows speakers or sky high from Nederland,Texas Austin.Brown:High Tenor ( Long wavy hair ) voice of an angel from Tifton Georgia. People compare these acappella groups to high school. PTX are the popular kids. Voice Play are the theater kids. Home Free are the ones goofing off and hanging out outside. Home Free doesn’t sing only country, but it’s suits their homey, natural and easy style. These are the guys I want to party with! On the prison theme, I suggest their cover of “Folsom Prison Blues”. For something, original and recent, “Playing with Fire”. For a party, “Hillbilly Bone”. BTW: The group has had only one change since 2013. Cofounder Chris Rupp left in early 2016. Leading off here was Tim Foust. Austin Brown covered the tenor lead. Cofounder Adam Rupp does the beats. And on this one, Rob and Chance covered background. Have fun. 🐇🕳️ 🏠🍟

Home Free describes itself as a country acapella band, but they do many other things as well. You cannot pin them down to one genre. There is no lead singer. They either take different verses as they did here or pick the member whose voice best fits the song. Their videos range from the five of them just standing or sitting in one place, comedic plays on their songs which are fantastic, others are very dramatic and many of them include actors playing out a scene intermixed with the music. Their catalog on YT has around 300 songs. To start here are the guys and a recommendation that features each of them as the lead: First singer is Tim Foust. He is a bass with a five octave range and "plays" base guitar, featured on Ring of Fire (Sing-Off version). He also has his own YT channel. Second singer is Austin Brown. He is a high tenor with an incredibly strong and agile voice, featured on When a Man Loves a Woman. He also has his own YT channel and he did a solo version of Unchained Melody with guitar accompaniment that has 14 million views. Singer with beard is Rob Lundquist. He is a tenor with a smooth voice with a lot of soul, featured on End of the Road. Singer in the same jail cell with the knit cap is Adam Chance. He is technically a baritone, but can easily sing bass or tenor, featured on Cover Me Up. And last, but not least, is beatboxer extraordinaire Adam Rupp. There is no sound he cannot make. Check out one of his "drum solos." That's just the beginning. Welcome to the Home Free Rabbit Hole.

Oh are you in for a treat. These guys' talent is "off the chart" in so many ways. Between the five of them, they can come up with 2 Bass (Earth shattering & speaker blowing), 3 Supple Baritone, 5 Gorgeous Tenors, 2.5 High Tenors, 5 Beatboxers (their main one is a freak of nature), all of which can accompany and blend with each other flawlessly. All genres, opera to pop to r&b to rock to gospel but lean a little country. These guys love what they do and THEY HAVE FUN. Get to know them by name/voice quickly as there are countless easter eggs out there where each one will astonish from time to time. DEEP rabbit hole - you can't go wrong. SUBBD

I really enjoyed your reaction. I too am a huge a cappella fan. You mentioned that you recently went down the Pentatonix rabbit hole. Well, with Home Free, there's an equally extensive rabbit hole. They lean country, but can sing anything. If you want country, there's Take Me Home Country Roads, Man of Constant Sorrow or Ring of Fire (featuring Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix), for oldies, When a Man Loves a Woman, American Pie (featuring Don McLean), Crazy, and Elvira (performed with the Oak Ridge Boys), for Gospel, How Great Thou Art, for R&B, End of the Road, for patriotic God Bless the USA and Go Rest High on That Mountain and for comedy, Champagne Tastes on a Beer Budget (with a very brief Avi Kaplan cameo,) and The Butts Remix/Medley. Those suggestions don't even scratch the surface of their repertoire. As an a cappella fan, you should also know about two other phenomenal groups, VoicePlay and Voctave. VoicePlay is probably the most theatrical of the groups. As a start, check out their cover of Oogie Boogie's Song from the movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. A good place to start with Voctave, a larger group with no beatboxer, is their Disney Love Medley which features Kirsten Maldonado from Pentatonix. The interesting thing about all of these groups is that they all know and respect each other. The bass of VoicePlay arranged Elvira for Home Free and the Oak Ridge Boys. VoicePlay's beatboxer arranged Home Free's Butts Remix/Medley. You often find members of one group freatured in songs by the others. Enjoy the a cappella journey. I look forward to many more of your reactions.

The do-wop style and prison setting of this one reflect the original version of Unchained Melody which was written for a prison movie in the 50s. Avi Kaplan, Tim Foust (the first singer here) and Geoff Castelluci are the premier bass singers in acapella today. They all are basso profundo singers with incredible range up to tenor. You are correct on their style of video and their style of music. They specialize in subtle in the music. They aren't showy. They do what the sing needs and don't overshadow the song with the singers. When they won the Sing-Off the year after Pentatonix won it, they got a bit of grief because they didn't have a lot of choreography. They have kind of leaned into that characterization since. You will get three types of videos from Home Free. Serious songs they find a picturesque spot and just stand there and sing (How Great Thou Art, Brothers in Arms, etc.). Fun songs usually involve a cookout (Land of the Free, Hillbilly Bone, etc.) And some songs get funny and theatrical videos that make it hard to pay attention to the song (Brother, Butts Medley, Working for a Living, etc.)

I get goosebumps every time I hear this. Austin Brown is the tenor/ high tenor, Tim Foust is the Bass. He has a 5 octave range. He helped teach Geoff Castellucci how to sing low bass. The two in the one cell is Rob Lundquist with the beard and glasses he is the 2nd tenor and Adam Chance is the baritone and sometimes bass when Tim is singing lead. The last one standing in his cell is Adam Rupp. Founder of the band and he is a champion beatboxer. If you want to hear Austin Browns voice up front, check out him singing this song solo and with Home Free When a Man Loves a Woman. If you want to hear Tim's 5 octave range check out his solo Will You Still Love MeTomorrow/Stay. Then continue down the rabbit hole with the home free songs but save "Mayday" for after you have heard some more of their songs.

@@nickerpsg1I would also say HF is my absolute favorite. While I recognize the talent of the other groups, they just seem too over the top and theatrical. HF just seems like five regular guys who just happen to be amazing singers. They make me feel good.

You’ve caught their more serious side. I saw one post with several songs for different reasons. You’re right, it is the nature of the song. It is just what you said it is! Please don’t compare the groups. They are each unique, which is why they are all so popular. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction. I’ll be waiting for the next.

Unchained Melody is from the 1950s movie "Unchained." It has been recorded by many artists over the decades, with Hatfield's cover being only one. I bought the sheet music in 1955, and still play it occasionally. It is a classic, and its fame should not be attributed to any one performer, in my opinion. Meanwhile, Home Free is my personal favorite of the 3 fantastic groups you are getting to know. It formed in 2000, winning the Sing Off the season after PTX won, and the same year VP competed. They were the first group to highlight the bass with solos. Tim has since earned legendary status. But I don't like to compare the groups. Apples and oranges...all great! And I loved your reaction and comments!

Welcome to Home Free. They sing all genre's but are most comfortable in the folk/country realm. They also sing a lot of originals. Chance (the baritone and occasional bass of the group) recently was commissioned by game company Ubisoft to write a theme song for their new game "Skull & Bones"....it's an awesome song. I prefer the live version over the lyric version.

Seriously, one could make a career out of Home Free's play list. They do covers (upgrades), originals and collaborations all across the board. Only thing is, hold off on listening to "Mayday" until you learn more about their sound. The cool thing is they rotate the Lead throughout the group. They are all Lead Singers. On top of all that, they are genuinely great guys and have a lot of fun doing their thing.

This song is the way they do things. Keep things simple, feel good vibe, but great harmony. There B-Boxer is a several time world champion. You will think he swallowed a drum set. They do all types of music. Man of constant Sorry, End of the Road, Blue Ain't your Color, Listen to the Music, 7 Bridges, How Great thou Art, Mary did you Know, Brothers in Arms(a lot of bass and wonderful harmony), Delta Dawn, Skull and Bones(they wrote and sang for the same name video game), and a new one they just wrote and released"Playing with Fire". No matter what song you pick you will love and be blown away and have a hard time remembering they are using there voices for all background.

Even Adam the beat boxer has a beautiful voice and sings when they need that harmonized wall of sound. If you like the “Just me and the Music” try HF’s Helplessly Hoping. In my almost 70 years I’ve always appreciated harmony. I’ve heard it in religious music, country music and a cappella. You have to admit it really shines in a cappella. Nick, I don’t subscribe to all reactors. Those I do subscribe to are the ones that appreciate the music a cappella creates and adds to the joy I feel from it by actually pointing out things I may have missed no matter how many times I’ve heard a song. You do that. You make a song a new special. I hope that makes sense. Home Free is a special band. They are - to me - as special as PTX and VoicePlay in a way of their own. I can’t compare because they are each unique. You know - you can’t compare apples and oranges. So dig in and enjoy what music is about. I look forward to more of your reactions to each of the a cappella groups.

Their control, range, harmonies, beat boxing, purity, depth…………..oh I could go on & on……they are all phenomenal & so versatile & everyone brings such a special something to each & every vocal!!! I’ve been down the HF rabbit hole for years & show no signs of climbing out of it. I hope you keep listening to them & react to more of their songs & covers because they’re in a league of their own. If I had to direct you towards any songs in particular I’d have to say………all of them! Lol. Ok my stand outs are Cover me up (Chance’s voice is like smooth chocolate) When a man loves a woman (Austin’s range 😲) Ring of fire (Tim & Avi Kaplin are wow!) Mayday (definitely don’t listen to this until you’ve heard quite a few of their songs, it will enhance you appreciation of them) The Gambler Go rest high on that mountain Brothers in Arms Man of constant sorrow Colder Weather Fun ones are - Folsom Prison Blues, 9-5, Sea Shanty Medley Enjoy the rabbit hole 🐰🙌🏻

Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole 🕳. Home Free does all genres of music but is noted mostly for Country, This group is simple when it comes to videos. They did HOW GREAT THOU ART in the Austrian Alps but they were on tour in Europe and took advantage of their location. They have a lot of funny videos, they even did a ot of videos separately because of covid. They set up some of their homes to do vocals and their better halves video them from phones. Buckle up and enjoy this ride. Suggestions. Show off Beatboxer Adam Rupp Man of Constant Sorrow, covid hmmm Down To The Honky-tonk, Meet In The Middle, or When A Man Loves A Woman. For only vocals How Great Thou Art, Helplessly Hoping, or High On That Mountain. Funny videos Brother, This is How We Roll, Butts Medley/Remix.

These are some songs that you might be interested in: Ring of Fire featuring Avi Kaplan Folsom Prison Blues which has the prison theme that you like. Home Free won the Sing Off the year after Pentatonix won. The groups are friends. Tim Foust, the bass, helped Geoff and Avi sing lower. Home Free usually goes back to the roots of the song. This was originally written for a movie about prison in 1955 so even the Righteous Brothers was a cover. This is beautifully done. Home Free is more country but sing all genres of music. Their harmonies can’t be beat. Try Helplessly Hoping, Brothers in Arms, In the Blood, I Can’t Outrun You, Die a Happy Man, Yours. Great reaction!😍
