During Vietnam on the fantail of the ship most every night a group would Du-wap the night away "in the still of the night" but those were militant times for black folks and sometime they were offended by a young white boy hanging around to listen. I used to have to hide but there beautiful voices made a hot night on the South China go by a hell lot better.

Mike Gulbranson Mr., you could easily turn your story into a short novella. Combat missions by day, doo wop by night, and maybe a viet namsese love interest mixed in. Or maybe a Steven king style strange and mysterious happenings on the ship.

I remember...it was the fall of 1960, I was in basic training at Ft Hood TX. A group of guys were on the steps of the barracks singing doo wop (There Goes My Baby). Sounded great! Music from so long ago. I hate to say it but probably never to return. I'm 70 now but listening to these songs it seems like yesterday, growing up in Philly, a "hotbed" of doo wop and 50s r&r. ;)
