I like this video. Honestly, if i was the one driving i would be white knuckling it. But the fact that it is a video with no talking amd someone else is doing the driving, it is cathartic and strangely relaxing.

The historical definition of a Blizzard is a combination winds above 35 mph and a temperature below 20 degrees with snow falling or a ground blizzard where the wind picks up snow that has already fallen. The term is used by most people to describe a heavy snowstorm with some wind that is cutting visibility and causing bad road conditions, their intention is not to be technical correct but to just relate their experience with a little hyperbole.

Temperature has nothing to do with the definition of a blizzard....snow,wind and visibility are the 3 criteria for a blizzard
@fasx565 жыл бұрын
@@franzisaryk5965 I was citing the definition from the National Weather Service which is a pretty good authority. Temperature has a lot to do with the definition. You can have Ground Blizzard with no snow falling, the high wind picks up the dry powdery snow and blows it around sometimes causing whiteouts, heavy wet snow will not cause snow drifts nor produce a ground blizzard. The temperature has to be at least in mid twenties or lower to produce blowing, drifting snow, this happens a lot in the upper Midwest and Canada. Anyway no big deal I hope we all can enjoy a White Christmas.
@franzisaryk59655 жыл бұрын
@@fasx56 I wasn't being rude or a dick I was just saying I've never seen temperature as a criteria for a blizzard on the weather channel...Anyway I think it's amazing how you can have a blizzard without it even snowing mother nature is so cool thanks for the conversation

People hate driving in the snow because it can be dangerous but it looks so fun and peaceful to me. Now, the highway or the interstate is my exception. You want to avoid highways and interstates because that is where pileups happen. Most pileups involve 50+ vehicles and some of those vehicles are semis. Being involved in a pileup can be lethal.

Also the T intersections or the four-ways can be very dangerous in snowy or icy conditions, and same with hills and curves.

There is an art to driving in the snow which takes years to master. Since it does snow often at times in the Washington DC area via nor'easters and I try to keep light pressure on the accelerator and if it is a stoplight ahead, I give myself extra room to decelerate without locking up the brakes.

For the most part, the state road commission does their best to plow the roads even during a heavy snow fall. However, the county (which is much smaller) needs to wait for the snow to let up or stop. There are 100's of 1000's of miles of roads that they need to clean. Naturally they do their best to get the busier roads cleaned first. Its not uncommon for secondary roads in rural areas to go a couple days before the roads get cleared. Thanks for watching!

Just love all the peeps arguing over if your storm is a blizzard or not. I grew up in Montana and yes I have experienced a blizzard or 2 but just to point out my arrogance I will say what you're experiencing isn't a blizzard because I have other worldly experience. It's kind of like saying cold that ain't cold I________________ and that is cold. Folks we can only comment according to our life experience and if the man says snow and blizzard conditions then to him that is exactly what he means. Well unless it was click bait and haha you fell for it too.
@acbrandt55 жыл бұрын
jeff m , thank you for pointing that out. Maybe it isn't a blizzard to a meteorologist, but it was bad. One thing that may be known to people that don't video these conditions is that the camera doesn't pick up the snow like the human eye. What I'm saying is it looks like it isn't showing a hard on film as it did in person. Thanks for watching.
