I don't think they will break the granite rights until they have an offer. I don't think the SEC or Big ten has made an offer. I bet they would leave if they did. But I don't think they'll ever get that call because I don't think those two conferences need any more hard teams to play. How's it benefit those teams in those conferences they already getting paid. How does Florida and Clemson make more money for the teams in the Big ten or the SEC?

@@davidframe1613 First FSU and Clemson don't qualify for the BIG because they are not AAU accredited universities. The expansion is about tv markets, and getting subscriptions to the SEC or BIG networks. The SEC has big time matches nearly every week. And the fans of FSU and Clemson will subscribe to see match ups to watch their team play UGA,BAMA,LSU, OKLA,. As well as opening new recruiting grounds. Loads of talent in NC and VA in football, that's why UNC and UVA are top targets for either conference, that along with the academics of both schools.

@kensummerlin180 That's simply just not true. UNC and UVA are great schools don't get me wrong, but they absolutely are not TOP targets. They don't have good football brands which is what those conferences really care about. Nobody cares about academics, just $$$, which comes from good brands and good viewership, not from good academics.

@@kensummerlin180 these TV deals are all about football. No one cares about anything else besides the Big ten likes for a school to have academics. Virginia and North Carolina would be the worst teams in the SEC if added probably would only win a game or two a year in the sec. Crimson would be a top contender, that's why I don't think Alabama wants to add Clemson nor do I think Ohio would either in the Big ten, why would they want their schedule to be harder they already have a great TV deal. How does adding ACC schools to the SEC make those schools in the SEC more money now?

Plus the terrible deal they signed with ESPN who has pretty much turned the ACC into their bitch at the negotiable table, the only thing that will keep the ACC alive in the future maybe will be that terrible deal they signed cuz it last so long and that’s a big maybe. I imagine that ESPN will have to ask itself do we really want to keep this conferences product on our programming when we’re loosing money Disney plus and alot of other things. If that question answer is yes that will keep it going but definitely not going to make the conference anymore money than they are now

How much extra value does FSU bring the big ten with home revenue excluded? Those big ten home games would have happened with or without FSU, so having FSU as your home opponent would need to be enough to justify an increased payout. How does one calculate that? It’s not just about making the finances work for FSU, it has to make sense for the BIG 10.

Notice how earlier he was playing up how likely it was the there would be an announcement by Aug. 15th and now in this video he's backing off from that? When there's no announcement he will have a new scenario involving how FSU is working behind the scenes and the big announcement will be next year at this time. It would be a pain for the B1G and FSU, but that could theoretically work. FSU could schedule the non-league cupcakes at home and also play teams like Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, etc. at home. Save the big time games for the road. The Miami game would be eliminated, though every other year, the UF game would be at home. FSU would not play any ACC games, except games like BC in Tallahassee. That move would significantly decrease the value of the FSU GOR. Would the fans hate it? Probably. Would it bring a settlement with ACC and ESPN? Maybe or maybe not. Who knows. If Clemson did the same thing, the value of the ACC package would be significantly lower. How would ESPN react if the two biggest football schools did that? Will any of this happen? Probably not, but it is not necessarily totally nuts.

At this point I think acc should sue espn for unfair business practice. The acc signed a contract similar in range with the sec and big 10 for the same interest. Two years later espn pay the sec 2 times the money causing much harm to the acc. They new what they were doing. Espn is the reason college football is in a money frenzy. When espn pruchase the sec total package, It forced CBS to find another conference. Big 10 was the only conference available at the time and Fox owned big10 tier 1games. CBS desperate for a league, was froced to grabbed tier 2. Then NBC also desperate and only had Notre Dame wanted a league to for Saturdays night took the tier 3 games. The ACC was stuck with the bad faith deal of espn and pac 12 and big 12 new was not till 2024. However pac 12 fell apart, ACC heavy strained fs and Clemson wanting more money, big 12 loosing Texas and Oklahoma regrouping with a group 5 teams and now formerly pac 12 teams. I espn would never paid sec twice the amount the i dont thinkwe would be at this juncture. As a acc fan cant blame fs and clemson for wanting more money. The acc will be fine, just need a better commish.

The grant of rights is with the ACC, not ESPN. ESPN pays the ACC to distribute the games. Those are two different things. If FSU goes to the SEC, the ACC still owns their gor and will get paid for FSU home games, not the SEC. Just because ESPN has agreements with the ACC and the SEC doesn't mean FSU can just swap conferences and take their grant of rights with them.

This is not true. If it were true, FSU and other schools would have left already. The ACC GOR is based on the Big12 and both GOR's have been reviewed by schools in both conferences over past few years. It is solid. It is a false claim to say that ESPN owns the rights. It is a fact that the GOR gives the rights to the conference - that is what the contract does. I have seen other sources, particularly The Monty show which says the Big10 doesn't want FSU because of academics and the SEC won't take FSU because U of Florida will not allow it. The SEC respects Florida's position more than Texas A&M. And, with expansion, the SEC wants to move up the coast, so they would go after UNC and Virginia. If FSU leaves the ACC, they could end up having to go to the Big12 which pays out about the same as the ACC, so what would be the point. FSU needs to be sure they have a landing spot that they want before shitting the can. This is the language from the ACC Grant of Rights agreement. It clearly says the ACC owns the rights - "1. Grant of Rights. Each of the Member Institutions hereby (a) irrevocably and exclusively grants to the Conference during the Term (as defined below) all rights (the "Rights") necessary for the Conference to perform the contractual obligations of the Conference expressly set forth in the ESPN Agreement, regardless of whether such Member Institution remains a member of the Conference during the entirety of the Term and (b) agrees to satisfy and perform all contractual obligations of a Member Institution during the Term that-are expressly set forth in the ESPN Agreement. "Breaking News! The ACC ONLY owns ALL of the television rights FSU had prior to the GOR!" That's called a feature, not a flaw. You can't grant something you don't have. And once granted, there is no entitlement to having it back. You don't need get back YOUR rights; you need to get THEIR rights. Any pathway to early demise of the GOR is via the ESPN contract. The express purpose of the GOR is to fulfill the TV contract. Get ESPN to blow/screw that up and then you may have something. Otherwise, pay the exit fee; go wherever it is you are going; and get paid for TV starting in 2037. In the meantime, whatever you make off of TV goes to the ACC. And no, dissolution to void the GOR by majority vote doesn't fly either. ACC bylaws have a process to address the GOR. And there is also a process to leave. By publicly announcing that the purpose of dissolution would be to void the GOR to avoid paying damages, an item which can be addressed via the existing bylaws, schools wishing to depart will pay the same monetary damages they would otherwise. Judge: Why do you want to dissolve?" Mag 7: "Oh, no reason. We're just kind of bored." Judge: "Well there are these public statements..." Mag 7: "Did we say that? We're sure that's not what we meant"

The value analysis leading to the host’s conclusion of FSU being worth 3x more than what the ACC is paying is faulty. A team is worth the additional rights fees that it can bring to a conference. Viewers = rights fees. To the SEC, is FSU going to bring in “additional viewers” in the state of Florida that UF currently doesn’t that would justify ESPN accordingly increasing SEC rights fees? Noles have a following but would only grow financially pie slightly larger in that respect. SEC and ESPN taking FSU would be more of a Defensive move vs the Big 10 than a windfall to the other SEC schools. FSU and, for that matter, Clem would make good opponents and attractive match ups for TV, however. However, they wouldn’t add TV markets that the SEC doesn’t already have. SEC will add UNC and Miami along with FSU and Clem and then call it a day.

Each Acc school gets 17m from the primary media deal & approx 10m from the ACC network, which is based on subscriptions. So if FSU leaves, how much does that $17m drop per school annually? The ACC w/o FSU & Clemson is worth what? And wouldn't Clemson have to pay half that? We know UNC's Bubba said that schools should suck it up (GOR) until 2036, so we know the Tar Heels aren't leaving (lol). W/O FSU/Clemson, is the conference worth $14m now? 17-14=3. 3x12=36. 36÷2=18. So FSU/Clemson owes about 18m each annually? Does new members offset that number any? Certainly they have some worth? How many subscribers does the ACC network lose? Miami still covers Florida, so how many subscribers are lost in SC? How many new subs will new members bring like Memphis, SMU or UConn? ACC would probably gain subs. In the 80s Miami played Michigan twice both at Ann Arbor-the B10 insisted the games be played at home because they lose alot of money if they schedule a home and home. Michigan has a point they guarantee a sellout in Ann Arbor which means 110,000 paid fans. Miami plays in a 75,000 seat stadium and they do not guarantee a sell out. FWIW: FSU in those days were independent and could liberally schedule anyone. FSU in those days were road warriors.

If the ACC remains “As Is” until 2036 or loses Clemson and FSU, it will most likely be relegated as a “group of 5 school” for all practical purposes. This conference will be so far behind in terms of athletic revenue, it will be struggling to compete with the Big XII schools let alone the BIG and SEC..

I made the same argument that Notre Dame should not get a say because it's a football decision but as someone pointed out it's not a football decision, it's about the whole school and the conference not just football. So if Notre Dame votes to add two teams they're actually voting to add the whole school, the basketball team and everything else that's also not football. If Notre Dame votes not to break the conference up they're voting for everything else that's not football also. But the ACC should have made Notre Dame join the conference as a full member years ago or kick them out. I know the SEC and Big ten would never allow that. I don't think the Big 12 would either. If the ACC breaks up Notre Dame will go independent they have no choice.

ESPN is not a party to the GOR. That is a contract between the conference and the member institutions. The ACC owns the GOR and negotiated the media contract that makes ESPN the media company that broadcasts the game. ESPN pays the ACC, that doesn't make them the owners of the GOR. ESPN has to pay the ACC if they broadcast an FSU home game. Even if FSU "transferred" to the SEC the check still goes to Charlotte.

Most teams play 7-8 home games, not 6. You’re totally forgetting OOC games. Even if your theory and numbers are correct, the math comes to $60 million a year for an average of 7.5 home games per season. If FSU left after this season, then that would mean 12 years covering that until the GOR expires in 2036. That’s $720 million that the Big Ten would have to cover over that time. Why in the world would the Big Ten do that? They won’t. Your SEC point is completely wrong. It’s not about ESPN losing the revenue. They wouldn’t care either way. ESPN would just be paying ACC teams revenue for FSU’s games while they were in the SEC. It’s FSU that would be losing all of that revenue. ESPN isn’t going to double up their payments to cover FSU’s losses. Neither would the SEC. FSU can talk all they want, but they (and other ACC schools) will have to find a way to nullify the GOR for any move to be remotely feasible from a revenue perspective. It might become feasible when we get close to the end of this GOR, but that won’t be for at least another 5-6 years. To move earlier, they’re going to have to get that 8 team coalition together and hope that would suffice legally. The whole reason that you had 4 schools vote against adding Stanford/Cal is all about maintaining that voting block. If they were added, then you’d need 9 schools instead of 8 to dissolve the GOR. Add SMU too and you’d need 10 schools to end the GOR. There are probably 6-7 teams that would vote to end the GOR and they don’t want their votes diluted by adding more teams. You have 6-7 ACC schools with nowhere else to go that would love to add 2-3 more schools that would be part of their voting block. Then there are a few schools in the middle who currently wouldn’t vote to end the GOR but could possibly be persuadable if they knew they had a solid longterm landing spot. But getting those last couple of schools on board is going to be tough. I’m skeptical that it will happen.

You say there is some loophole in the ACC GOR advantageous to FSU because of its hypothetical TV revenue-generating value to the B1G. This is a matter of legal analysis, but you cite no provisions of the ACC GOR agreement. You don't even mention credible sources for your premise, which in this case would be the opinions of reputable lawyers informed as to the GOR. This sounds like b.s. circulating at a kegger.

If the rumor is true that the SEC is willing to go to 9 conference games if ESPN agrees to more teams added at a full share, then it sounds like path into the SEC is easier than into the Big Ten. Going to 9 conference games with Clemson and Florida State in the league makes the deal much more palatable to Florida and South Carolina who can convert those non-conference games into conference games.

Commissioner Philips claimed the ACC is the 3rd highest revenue generator of all the P% conferences but you have the ACC 5th (last) in your chart. USA Today reported that the ACC's total revenue in 2022 was $617M, with a $37.9 to $41.3 per school payout in '22, 3rd highest among power 5. I mean, there's a lot here to point out. FSU plays 1 sec game on rotation. The acc having fsu's rights does not mean they get to keep the money but that doesn't mean the big 10 wants this cluster where the acc has four or five of their games. Would the acc really want them either? They would almost certainly go into the acc's best time slots because espn chooses what to air. Fsu does not play six conference away games.

Any home game, even if it's played at another site, as long as FSU is designated as the home team, that is shown on TV will have the payment sent to the ACC. At the end of the year that FSU home game money will go to the current ACC schools. It will be like having an extra team that you don't have to pay each year. That's why the only way FSU gets out of the ACC is buy negotiating a buyout of their GOR. They are going to have to write a big check or stay with us. These crazy loopholes are nothing more that internet logic. Legal logic is a whole different thing.
@benjaminhawkes6693

@elliottcrews4997 well, you can research legal logic. There aren't gor agreements where courts sided with the holder who then benefits off the rights and doesn't have to pay the creator. @elliottcrews4997 I'm saying they won't win that, courts prefer damages but specific performance is a possibility, free labor is not, it's specifically not. If the acc won some judgement to keep the rights, they would not also be able to keep the money. The court would probably enforce a divorce here though with monetary damages. It's too complex otherwise. I could see them telling fsu to remain, especially if fsu didn't give the acc time to adjust. But that specific performance would be temporary.
