I'm not so sure the ACC survives... Let's go down the list. Clemson, FSU, NC, Virginia are all gone to the P2. VT, Louisville, Miami, NC State are all at the very least Big 12 targets (even possible P2 targets). There would be no anchor schools left! It's like a dying mall that loses all its anchors... it's over at that point.

The ACC certainly won't fold entriely, as their numbers are better than the Big 12. Without some of the heavy hitters, it seems more likely that the remaining members would look to move against the Big 12 or grab more from the G5, something the Big 12 has already had to do en masse. In all sports, the ACC is second among conferences, so if a newer, smaller football brand can be just as relevant as whatever the Big 12 ends up being, the league will survive.

Everyone else does. Why shouldn’t we? But seriously, what just got proved last week is that there are networks who will pay a little something for basketball. The ACC has larger TV basketball followings than the Big East and b12 (you could have proved me wrong by Baylor building their new arena with 50% more capacity instead of downsizing), so there are going to be enough schools that know they won’t get paid for football… so the ACC will survive. The b12 will find themselves getting a pay cut down the line.

In terms of TV viewership I think people have been underestimating the additions of Cal, Stanford, and as you say SMU. SMU has the most...hope is the best thing to say here, in terms of their future, but I think comparing the depth of the B1G compared to the SEC, when it comes to surviving and maybe thriving, on field results don't matter nears as much as eyeballs on TV. The B1G outside of their B1G 3 has been mediocre at best, with occasional flash plan stars (Iowa's defense last year). Again SMU has a real hope of progressing as a team, and they will only get more attention being on more nationally televised games. When they do hit ESPN/ABC and other national stations (ie not ESPNU as most of their AAC games currently were), they're consistently getting 1-2million tv viewers, it's not a lot, but it was the AAC. North Texas wants a football team of their own to root for. Stanford and Cal, meanwhile, aren't world beaters, but they also were bottom dwellers in the PAC 12 in terms of viewership. Both of them were solidly middle of the road in the PAC 12 (4th-7th usually), and of course were miles away from USC and Oregon, but actually weren't that far off from Wazzu, Utah, and Washington for totals. That's opening up parts of California and Texas as new TV markets. Mind it's not just about success on the field, if the ACC can negotiate to have ACC Network included in packages as a standard in both of those states, or at least parts of them if demand increases, that's a huge win. I wouldn't exactly say I'm calling the ACC's future sparkling, but I'm more towards leaning into it existing a lot longer than we all expected. UNC might have a better path out than Clemson. They might be suing, but I'd believe they're doing that without any assurances of a new home outside of maybe the Big 12, and that to me seems like a mistake. FSU clearly has suitors, and UNC has actual verbal suitors. Outside of them, though, it really seems like Miami is either content not to spend money on exiting the conference, and is happy to let FSU and Clemson do the grunt work, or they're genuinely fine staying in the conference and know something (financially) that we don't.

OU is more popular in Dallas than SMU. Nobody cares about the Mustangs. I think the Houston Cougars actually have more fans than SMU. The ACC can't negotiate for anything. They proved it by accepting that ridiculous CFI deal, not to mention the way ND has taken full advantage of the ACC.

Never. When's the last time UNC won a P5 conference championship? If you want to say UNC is basically a G5, go right ahead. b) So? The ACC didn't do anything to get a better deal. c) I suppose you think maintaining your independence, stealing bowl spots, and being able to have a 2020 season while the ACC got virtually nothing in return is worthwhile? And don't act like 5 games a year is that great. ND needed to fill out their schedule anyway as conferences like the B1G and P12 went to 9 conference games.

I guess UNC is used to bumbling around and not getting anything done. Spencer, please congratulate all the FSU fans on their accurate prediction that the ACC no longer exists. There is no ESPN contract, because there is no ACC. Furthermore every former ACC school has found a new home and every school has new and full schedules that are ready to go in August. As the FSU fanboys correctly predicted Notre Dame is now a proud member of the SEC (except in all of the sports that the SEC doesn't offer, where their teams have joined the B1G.) I do have to say that it was a surprise to learn that Lee Corso was the genius that engineered all of the moves. He worked at light speed to make sure that every former ACC school found a new home that was optimal for them. He must have had elves help him craft new schedules in all sports for the former ACC schools. A truly happy day for everyone. Thanks FSU fans, you were brilliant.
