I was invited to the 2021 Aviation Content Creators Awards (ACCA's) that took place July 24th and 25th, 2021 in Rock Falls, Illinois at Whiteside County Airport. I had a great time while documenting some of the events at the airshow. This video just covers a few of the events.
I have had numerous subscribers and viewers ask me if there is a way to help support my channel. If you would like to leave a TIP of $1 or $2 then please tip me through the Venmo or PayPal links below. Any tips I receive will be used in future videos in order to cover costs. Thank You Very, Very Much!

One of the things I love about your videos is the narration that you do. You do such great narration. I am really big on narration and I do so in my videos. I really like how you explain things in detail as so we the viewers can have a better understanding of what is taking place. Forrest Haggerty your videos are absolutely fascinating. That is because YOU are a fascinating man.

I learned to fly with a 150 and a fat instructor. When I did my solo, it took me a second to figure out why I was claiming straight up, like a catapult ! the fat guy never bothered to remind me of that weight change......These little planes are very sensitive to the weight of the pilots inside. Dan is no light weight himself.....he is "fluffy" .....had he been skinny, he may have avoided the corn in the cabin........maybe.

Speaking of extremely short takeoffs, I took an aviation course when I was in school in Lincoln, NE. My instructor said it gets so windy in Lincoln that he can take off backward if the wind is sustained above takeoff speed.

Wow no way, I can fly a plane upside down, backwards, and with the engine off, in a tornado. All your instructor said was that he can fly a plane if the air speed is fast enough 🤷🏼‍♂️ “Backwards” is relative
@BillGreenAZ
@BillGreenAZ 2 жыл бұрын
@@BikingVikingHH It's a matter of physics. The plane lifts when there is enough wind speed going across the wings. If the plane is facing a wind that is faster than the lift speed then the plane lifts. The plane can go backward as long as the net speed is more than the lift speed.

I’m sorry! I had not understood the “go around” was attempted after intentionally flying into a bottle neck overgross on a hot day. Then the flaps mysteriously malfunction- kinda like Martha Lunken’s transponder. Yes, Dan is to be commended for keeping the aircraft under control, and for his work promoting such. This however comes under the category of using superior judgement to avoid having to exercise superior skill.

I had the same experience in my Cessna 150 only I had a 6300 ft runway and immediately aborted the touch and go. I was able to touch back down and stop with 100 ft of runway left. The tower closed the runway for a few minutes until I could back taxi off the runway. I always sight the flap indicator to verify flaps are deploying or retracting during any take off.The flap indicator wasn't moving and my amp gauge indicated a heavy current draw. I also didn't hear the familiar sound associated with flap movement.The flap motor armature rear bearing had failed and caused the armature to lock up. Had I been taking off from a smaller airfield the result would have been much different. Many older150 owners always preferred the manual flap control and always disliked the electric flaps.Cessna did away with 40 degree flaps in the later model 152 as a safety precaution for just this reason knowing the plane will not climb with a 40 degree flap extension. Maximum flap extension in 152's is thirty degrees. The 152 also has the Lycoming 0-235 engine with 10 additional horsepower.

I learned to fly in a C150. Those big flaps were magic for extreme short field landings, but if you needed to go 'round, you need to get them back to 30 or less real quick. It won't climb much with 40 out and not a lot better with 30, you need to clean it up as soon as airspeed and pitch permits.

I bet the flaps micro switches were at fault here. Seen them fail many times (normally from lubricants used in that area). I would suggest only using a maximum of 30 degrees flaps on 150’s and replacing the micro switches every 10 years or sooner if contaminants are present. Fly safe everyone.
