For me, this season was "the season to get BETTER". I made EVERY turn with purpose. I had a goal every day. Result - 4 different level 3 to 4 instructors told me I am skiing totally differently or so much better. It meant so much to me. I had three people take videos of me. One was with a ski school. I skied 99% of the time alone. I signed up with Tom, Big Picture Skiing. Learned so much more than I could imagined. Made a humongous difference. I have pictures and videos from the beginning of the season and towards the end of this season. I can see the huge difference. I mean, I FEEL TOTALLY DIFFERENT. I am not done yet. Three more days to go. I went up thinking "Never give up!" every day.😂 Thank you so much, Tom. Atomic girl.😊

I am so happy to hear this. Well done to you. And you are not alone. There are others using bps and getting unsolicited positive feedback. 🤩

"Struggling is a good sign" is the positive pivot I needed, thanks! I didn't get anywhere near as much video as I had hoped this season, but the ones that I did really confirmed some deep-seated issues (counter, possibly due to my heavily duck-footed stance) that I am going to ponder in the off-season.

I know it’s great when you can swicth something interpreted as negative to a positive.

I love this video, training on the edge of your skill is the crucial bit. Too difficult is as bad as not difficult enough. Everything else resonated with me, I am a casual skier but the joy of skiing for me is constant improvement. I have spent decades drilling as my everyday skiing but for a long time I only had one drill! It wasn’t till watching your videos last couple of years that i worked on different skills and made real gains.

Hello Tom, guys I am a perfect example of what you are saying guys Last June , I came cross BPS on youtube and met Tom for the fist time 😊 At this point i decided at 59 years old to raise my ski level to the next step it’s never too late 😅😅 I registered to BPS , start learning ( bunch of videos ) but started with fundamentals Athletic stance AND equipment I asked question to Tom who is always available , change my mind with ski race boots, get rid of footbeds There is no such delivrable than the ski boot guide Tom did Results : after only 18 days on snow: I use my feet and legs to ski now I can make short turns and carving Better ski position with less pain in my legs No pain in my RC4 MV pro boots ( only 1 day) before the basic boot fitting with the heater to mold the boot to my feet Pulling out 1 screw behind the shoe to give a bit more flex I will work this summer on the last fine tuning I am so happy now and yes if you decide to become a better skier and start with fundamentals and a good coach. You can do it and faster My best step is to make a ski camp with Tom next year … let see I need to convince him to come in the French Alps😅

Hey Tom, Really liked the video. I appreciate you making something for us guys that are self-learning. I especially loved the part about the flow. I have a question related to the type of run that we decided to do(chill, improve, perform, ...): What do you think about experimenting vs "keeping it by the book"? Here's where I come from with that: my 2nd time I went skiing I improved a lot by focusing on improvement and skiing by the book almost all of the time. I did parallel turns, short turns with separation, angulation, slides for edge control- slide only and slide while traversing, marching and turns on one leg, hockey stops, a bit of javelin drill. The last day I couldn't get the hang of the technique that I had on the previous days and it was worse. I couldn't shift my weight as well, and I couldn't do the pole in front parallel to the ground angulation & separation drill. So I decided to play and soon after I was doing checked turns(per Ultimate skiing book) which is hard pivoting and braking, the type of turn you would use when coming down a really steep path. That was going well, and I played with it on the red tracks, but when I wanted to continue to ski normally I completely lost the feeling for it. I reverted back to the wedge and the beginning and was feeling that I was regaining control but I wasn't enjoying it as I felt that I regressed and was bummed out and ended the last day 1.5h earlier. I would appreciate your point of view since I would like to know for the next season

Both experimenting and keeping it by the book so to speak can push your limits. Working on technique is a challenging constraint for example skiing with angulation when you have never done that before. I use video to keep evaluating myself constantly and searching for what challenges I can find next. Whether it be a tech one or a tactical one
