I told my buddy Lyle that I wanted to get up and knock the rust off after a winter of minimal flying. We went up and did accelerated stalls, turning stalls, and power on stalls, followed by some pattern work. It was a great experience, and this is some of the footage that we originally shot just for de-brief purposes. The Tailwind is such a great flying airplane!!!
Interested in buying this airplane? It's for sale, shoot me an email.

Yeah funny how it seems like you just went, then you review your logbook and it's been 2 months....

Very Cool! A ton of "pre-stall buffet" for sure! I thought your landings were just fine, taildraggers are hard!
@MotoFlightGuy

Yeah I am just always criticizing myself. The thing about taildraggers is that the second you let your guard down, you bend an airplane, especially in crosswinds. So I'm always striving to do it by the book. You a rider and pilot too?

@@MotoFlightGuy Absolutely!! Haven't raced in awhile, but still love riding modern and vintage/Evo! '00 YZ "144" and '73 CZ 981. Flying since I was 17. Started my tailwheel training in AZ, but got hurt racing and never finished.....Long story...LOL! Have definitely subscribed to your channel!! Thanks! Been riding Moto since bikes had two shocks!

@@marksmith402 I had a 144 Suzuki for a long time. 2 of them actually! Finally realized I'm too old and out of shape to ride a small bore 2 stroke. Loved the bike tho!

@@MotoFlightGuy SAME!! But 450's made me kinda lazy and gave too much confidence to clear everything, leading to a pretty big "wad up" during a Marty Smith class in AZ. My CZ is still a 400 though! Keep up the great work 👍!

Haha yeah I'm not one of those full time KZbin guys. Just do it for fun, so I don't have much exposure. What brought you here if I might ask?

I never realized how high the approach speed was.

It's higher than a cessna 172 but it's still not what I would consider "fast". Figure 85kts on average. Still slower than the approach of most twins, and nothing like a Long EZ or Lancair.

You said that with flaps it adds a lot of nose down and increases stick pressure, do you not have trim to fix the stick pressure?
@MotoFlightGuy
@MotoFlightGuy 4 ай бұрын
The trim in the tailwind is just springs on the elevator control linkage. So all it does is put pressure on the controls when you move the trim. It doesn't have a trim tab like most airplanes do. So it works well for most phases of flight, but when using flaps the trim doesn't have enough strength to be able to trim it hands off. So you need to hold the back pressure yourself. It's not a big deal, but it's just not how I prefer to fly it. I find that the flaps aren't really necessary and the airplane is happier doing no-flap landings.

Nice video. Seems your camera remains oriented to the horizon. (which is good in the case of the whiteout of the outside of cockpit) What kind of setup do you use?

This was shot with a Insta360 One x2 and the flow state stabilization was done in post processing with their desktop software

As a glider pilot Why don't they do a full spin?
@MotoFlightGuy
@MotoFlightGuy 4 ай бұрын
Full spins are done in general aviation. Spin training wasn't the goal for this flight. Also this airplane isn't aerobatic so my choice would be to not do intentional spins in it.
