These are insane, and amazing omg!! ❤️ However, i read the description and it makes me sad that art schools still discourage anime style drawings no matter what skill. I still dont understand their dislike for it, and it’s definitely not fair to be judged negatively simply off of a style! If you like drawing in anime style, don’t stop what youre doing! You’re doing great!

anime is usually discouraged because the style is adapted to be very fast and easy for production it doesn’t display the technical skills you need for industry also it doesn’t help with anatomy it’s still a great style!!

​@@yumnaosman7807 that does explain it and i agree! though i'd say it def can still show technical skills (unless youre talking about like realistic pencil drawings or something). i still wish they'd respect it a little more though, especially if a student is serious about the style and already is proficient in basics. im not saying all art teachers or schools are like this but a lot still exists

I have 2 game concepts with character-, setting-, prop-designs and lots of studies but this gave me even more ideas of what to add to my portfolio! Thanks!! remember to add any life drawings if u can !! also as for interviews, for both escape and hertfordshire they just ask you to talk through stuff in your portfolio, theyre both really chill for interviews tbh. i recommend bringing any sketchbooks too along with ur digital work, they like seeing the messier side too to get an understanding of your workflow :3

Wait this is so cool! I never knew there had been concept and game art courses in the Uk untill now. I only thought was just things like fine arts and other things to do with self- expression which always drifted me from the idea of attending uni in the Uk. a lot of the people from my college are going there!!! i heard 😭 my programming teacher from college switched to teaching there as well 😭 but yeah it’s a pretty solid place, i can see why your mum might think it sounds off since it tries to sound like a studio

Can I ask a question, which of the unis were you considering for art in UK? Do you know if the BA (Hons) 3D Games Art & Design in Hertfordshire is good or not? I want to pursue a game art degree with strong focus on concept art, animation, and technical skill (so less theory stuff) And how is the overall uni life at Hertfordshire? Do they have good facilities and good staff and good career opportunities?

my goal was always hertfordshire !! i only applied to the others as backup, but ive heard falmouth was good too :> games art at hertfordshire is rly rly good !! there's definitely good facilities here and the lecturers do teach well overall. you'll also get a lot of opportunities after 1st year as far as i can tell :) if you want to focus on concept art and animation, i definitely recommend applying to the concept art course instead, you'll get to learn 2d and some 3d animation alongside in first year, whereas with the 3d games art course you wont get to do much concept art after first year. 2d animation is also not taught to 3d students as far as i know ! also please do remember that good theory is needed in order to build technical skills further!! you will learn both my only issue would be location, there's not much to do in the area so it does get a little lonely, but it's 20 minutes away from london on train so it's not that big of an issue. the workload can be too much to handle for some people (me LMAO) so do keep that in mind since you wont have much free time

@@gachabloxgirl3958 overall the people in the animation department (games art/concept art/2d animation/3d animation/vfx) are very friendly after they get over the initial shyness :3 it's pretty diverse too!! im not sure about other departments though

Hiii! Ur portfolio is outstanding! I also want to apply to most of this unis for games art but I'm so confused about the ual ucas as it opened on 16th may, but games art course is not there. So if u would be so kind, could u share with me ur experience of applying to cal for this course

I honestly wouldn’t recommend ual games art as their work is kind of underwhelming (in my opinion), but if you can’t find it on ucas i suggest waiting until around october as that’s when i started my applications! for games art specifically they just ask you to upload art from your portfolio to a website and they make their decision from that without any interviews. I recommend unis like hertfordshire and escape studios as they have a higher standard and their student work is closer to industry quality :3

my initial portfolio and the one in the interview are really different!! if anything i think you should add stuff and switch it up to show how youve grown in the waiting time between the online portfolio and face to face interview !! good luck

@@gumfizz I've been looking for stuff in mainland France since technically I'm a french person so that comes with less issues. And damn yeah talk about expensive... none of the public schools or universities where I'm going have game art or anything similar or that suits my interests and it's kinda rough, but on the other hand there's kind of a surprising number of art schools that offer game art/design courses. I just need to figure out how to answer to the cost without getting indebted...

@@corruptedteka france has some of the world’s best animation schools !!! you can get into the games industry through animation as it teaches a lot of the principles of games art. also yea i get you i’m taking out a massive loan to pay for uni :/

ofc !! unless a course explicitly says you cant use fanart then it's completely fine. the only situation it would be unprofessional in is if you were using it to apply for a job in industry!!

yes!! for the online portfolio round im pretty sure captions and annotations are required, for the second portfolio it's usually a face to face interview so you'd have to talk through it

Dont go to Staffordshire university for concept course- seen portfolios accepted there and some people had no idea what they are doing, they just accepted almost everyone just to get money...

Ya know, I was about to write a very negative comment about how garbage the art is solely based on the thumbnail picture, but not only is that not true due to the other art in the video, it's also unnecessary, because I'm not the hiring manager so I don't know what he's looking for. This reminded me that we, the service providers often called employees, can't really judge what jobs we would or wouldn't be suited for, because we don't know what the employer wants. So here's a big fat congratulations, I hope your preparation meets more opportunity like this in the future. And maybe one day I'll be as good as you at digital painting.
