As someone who went through 4 years of a BAA Animation degree and doing 3D modelling post for a masters (and now works in film), you gained 70% of the same skill set as a crossover animators would, you draw extremely well as your program had a GREAT base for getting non-artists up to snuff. By end of term 1 you were drawing on a high level for design & technical so don't think you're a bad artist by any means as your final renders are professional grade and could pass in the tv/film industry. Great video, home to watch a few more down the road.

The growth is amazing! I was obsessed with Feng Zhu's videos in 2012 after quitting art school. It's 2023 and I'm a mechanical engineer and I've never stopped applying his philosophies like your perspective coursework. It takes A LOT of unpaid time/labor to master your software, but It will all pay off once you start working on your own projects!

omg this was so cool to peek into! so I just graduated from my state uni with a bachelor's in illustration, buuuuuut while the traditional grind did help my fundamentals a lot (those perspective and communication assignments looked very familiar haha), there was near nothing on concept art itself, which is what I want to do. So I'm taking just one trade school class online this year and this video just made me so excited for it, haha!!! man this is super neat sounds like a lot of stuff for a single term haha i never got formal training in concept art stuff, so hearing how the pros teach it is pretty cool :) makes me wonder how much faster I might've progressed had I taken on smth like this; rather than learn it all through random stray youtube videos over the course of like a decade lul but ye nice to hear some of stuff I hadn't picked up on my own as well looking forward to hearing u leak the rest of the curriculum as well haha tangential, but i also rly like ur crab carriage design/idea, them going sideways is a pretty creative touch that's fun to pick up on

@@corruptedteka i think it was only super intense at fzd because it was all crammed into a one year course. A lot of game art courses are like 3 years so it might be less hectic.

Loved your creativity. especially in the Floating Seafood, the way the crabs are positioned because they walk sideways, just genius. Have you seen all this in 13 weeks? I've never even seen so much of perspective in over a year, I don't even know how to make those mirrored letters, nor how to find the light source to create the shadow in perspective. Did the classes last all day? It seems that the teachers just told you to do the tasks, without much explanation. 😂 Anyway, I loved the video, I'm subscribed from now on.👍

This is a ton of work, but I definitely wish I got an experience like this. I'm going thru art school right now (I'm a senior) and my school's curriculum is so unfocused and broad that I feel I wasted my time here. I still learned a lot but I feel like I'm gonna be playing catch up the next few years. Thanks for breaking down your curriculum!
