THIS EPISODE:
This is a story from Victorian days from long ago. A story of intrigue, romance and tragedy.
We start by exploring with the Faces Skycam out over Lake Michigan and fly in low to the the steep sloped shores of tycoon alley in Lake Forest, Illinois. This is the Mayflower Mansion, the home of tycoons - it was the home of the heirs to the Schweppes soda company dynasty.
It was Charles and Laura Schweppe whose family was pampered by Butler, maids, cooks, grooms, nurses, governesses, and served by coachmen & gardeners. It was a place of many gala parties, including spectacular events where princes and princesses, and Dukes and duchesses would stay and be entertained.
But this place has a sinister history. At the end of the south wing, within the second floor master bedroom, something horrible happened. The house sits empty for decades, for it is said to be haunted by the ghost of Charles himself.
More on the haunted Schweppe mansion and estate:

_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

NOTE: After decades of vacancy, the Schweppe Mayflower Estate has just been reoccupied within the last six months. But for those who ask about smoke from the chimney: It had been necessary to run the heat in this vacant mansion all of these decades, otherwise the priceless European woodwork would shrink and slowly disintegrate, artifacts would have cracked, and all would have been damaged or destroyed. For those of you who are curious to see inside - Here is an interesting video (from 12 years ago) touring through the INTERIOR of the entire mansion. The real estate agent talks about the necessity of keeping the mansion heated always: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYbdhZqDf5Z-edk Also by the way, as a heads up to you homeowners, in subfreezing cold climates, you must keep your home at 50 to 60° F minimum with the more modern furnace systems, whether you’re there occupying the premises or not. Otherwise you risk ruining your HVAC burners (condensation/rust), fans and control systems. Very expensive fix!

Interesting. Never heard this. Have had thier ginger ale, soda. Many times. Is there a book about this or those two families. I'd like to know more. Not surprised if that mansion is haunted. They could make it into a museum. I'm sure its on or should be listed as a historical site. To protect and preserve it. Was there a movie made? Thier sodas are still being sold. So. Somebody had to buy the rights to keep selling the soft drinks. Sad to see it sit empty. Places no matter how grand. If not used often fall to decay and ruins. Now you got my attention I'd like to know more.going to be hard to find a family who is willing to buy thus house and fix any repairs that need to be made. That place is huge.only thing I can think of is to declare it a historical site and register it as such. If it has not already been done so. I'm sure the walls hold many secrets. Several family spirits still rest there and probably would not welcome anyone living there. Has there been a paranormal group been there to ask what spirits are there? I'd watch that. Very much would like to know whose spirit still reside in that family mansion. Thanks for showing the house and the families final resting place. Take care and be safe. Love, respect, and positivity always. Neita James.:-)

Glad you were able to make it back to the older section, a place of serenity and alot of history, known and unknown. Has one of the biggest collection of Tiffany glass windows, beautiful depending on the day you go with the sunlight coming thru them . One reason that some of the doors to family rooms are open is due to ongoing repair- a couple of years ago pipes burst and there was alot of water damage in some of the rooms.....

Wow, who knew? Great story. Great tour! I was reading the other day that in Mexico, in large mausoleums (not necessarily THAT large) drug dealers live and practice their trades. Always be aware of your surroundings and take care. Cheers!
