The answer is YES! Diana and Smokey were romantically involved while he was married to his first wife Claudette. Mary Wilson wrote in her book that Diana spent late late nights in the studio with Smokey and bragged about going out on dates with him and coming back to them excitedly shouting "I just went on a date with Smokey! He bought me flowers". Mary said everyone at Motown knew they were having an affair. Eventually his wife caught on and confronted him about it, and he told her that he would stop seeing Diana. Smokey confirmed the affair in his autobiography. After Smokey, Diana moved on to have affairs with two more married men, Eddie Dozier Holland, and Eddie Kendricks of The Temptations. Then ultimately, Berry Gordy...Smokey knows the truth but he won't kiss and tell.

He didn't fully answer the question, because the press like some of these sorry, no life gossiping people on here who don't know what they are talking about, will run with his words and turn it into something that it wasn't. Diana and Smokey go WAY back and lived in the same neighborhood. She knew Smokey before Berry or Motown. She confessed that she used to hang around him when she was younger and had a crush on him, but, he always saw her as a little sister. People have to remember that Diana was a teenager when we talk about early Supremes and Motown. So, I'm sure Diana like all women had a crush on Smokey (He was and is a good looking man) and Diana and him probably fooled around at one time, no doubt. But, that's trivial and personal, compared to their life long friendship. Later down the line at Motown, Berry saw potential and an uniqueness in Diana Ross and began mentoring her. Naturally an adult relationship developed. It's as simple as that. Some of Diana's trolls who are calling her a slut and projecting their own dirty minds and life onto hers, are just trash. Diana Ross didn't break up anyone's marriage or slept around to get where she is. (I'm sure Smokey and Berry had their pick of plenty women at that time, plus most men don't divorce their wife for a mistress. So, those rumors are just nonsense) That's a longtime slander from some jealous people at Motown who resented and still resent Diana Ross' success and closeness with Berry Gordy. She was the Queen of Motown and the Boss that could call the shots and many wanted her stardom, power and success and they resent her and try to slander her. Also, other artist and fans of other artist resent and are jealous of her success and stardom and try to bring her down with rumors and gossip. If you look over Diana Ross' life, she was either chaperoned by her mother, when she was underage and traveling with the Supremes, then she was with Berry Gordy, then she got married to her first husband and had children in the 70's, divorced, then with Gene Simmons a couple years later, early 80's, then a couple years later after that, was married again and had two more children. That spans about forty years of her career. She has recorded about 65 studio albums and probably more unreleased material for Motown, five films, has toured internationally almost every year since being in the business (Non-Stop/Check her Wikipedia page and look under tours). Plus, she raised five children and refused to hire a nanny. Her children always tell stories of her putting them to sleep at night, while she took a jet overseas to do a concert and returned in the morning. I say all of that to show how ridiculous the portrait some of her trolls and haters are trying to paint her as some kind of weak vixen who got ahead by sleeping her way to the top. She worked and loved her family too hard, to have time to party and sleep with men. So, stop the lies. Another lie that someone made up and commented, is that she slept with Holland Dozier to get songs. LOL Why would she do that, if she was dating the boss who owned the song writers and could call the shots? A lot of these manufactured attacks on her character don't add up. She was too busy working and raising children to be about the life you lying trolls are trying to spread about her. Get a life and stop trying to find ways to discredit her success. LOSERS!!!!!!! And don't tell me about what someone wrote in a book and said about her, because the reality is that in order for anyone to get a book deal, they have to find a target/spin that will sell the book and a way to sensationalize it for marketing and publicity. Although Smokey is VERY relevant in his own right, Diana Ross and MIchael Jackson as it relates to Motown in the headlines bring the interest and hits. P.S.- If Diana Ross was the vixen, slut and promiscuous, as some of you are alluding to, then I don't think respectable men of power would be with her or marry her, like Berry Gordy, her first husband, Gene Simmons, and her last muti-millionaire husbad. Diana was one hell of a Smooth Operator. She wanted something, she went for it. Whether he was married, her best friend's boyfriend or a boy in his teens who she called her "son". She used her womanly charms, and held the men to secrecy by gentlemanly codes. Stayed in demand by dating more than one at a time, keeping her men jealous and fighting over her. She kept up her friendships with all these men so they would never "betray a friend" by telling on her. But MJ sang it all in his songs. Feel free to add names to the list, I know there were more. No wonder she had to demand respect and insist on being called "Miss Ross". Berry Gordy and Diana Ross knew what they were doing but it all blew up in their face.Berry's attention focus was only on Diana Ross and he has said that he loved her but it seems that he used her.Also she left Motown but no one gave her what Berry did and she thought that she was going to fly high after she left but she came back and nothing was the same. Although some people loved Diana Ross but they also loved the supremes too.Around this time Motown was falling so Berry sold it because he could not compete with the other record labels so the lesson in this is be careful what you wish for.
