If the HDD is partitioned such that one contains the OS while the other has programs, then you can just clone the OS partition (but I would recommend including the other smaller partitions). However, if everything is in one partition, the partition is considered as one indivisible object, so your OS (e.g., in C:\Windows) would be cloned with your programs (in C:\Program Files).

exactly what i was looking for. this is the easiest way of doing it. i was thinking of cloning, but going from a larger sized HDD to a smaller capacity SSD via cloning may pose unexpected challenges. this recovery disk method looks to be the simplest, easiest and safest way of doing it. btw, with this method, the recovered new SSD would have practically all current windows keys associated with the machine, current drivers at installation, settings (as much as possible), etc? thanks again for this good work.
@accessrandom3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, and thank you 🙏. Yes, the Windows product key is typically embedded in the BIOS so the recovery will pick that up automatically. Basically, it should give you a factory-restored image, including drivers and original settings.
@jeriellucas35433 жыл бұрын
I see. To clarify, this factory reset point would be at the version that was originally placed by the manufacturer, or would this restore point include updates? Like I am now at the latest Windows update version, would it revert to an earlier build of Windows 10 from the original machine? I would still be ok with it either way. @@accessrandom Thanks again. I am now asking my wife if she wants to go through the upgrade. I will also ask if she wants to do it this way, or thru cloning as we also have MS Office, and I don’t know where the product key is anymore. In that case, I’ll just ask them to move their files like pictures out of the drive prior to cloning to make sure it will fit the SSD. We have an all-in-one, and it is painfully slow due to a 2TB HDD, but per documentation, it can fit an M2 SSD. Not sure if it will be worth it given the AMD A8 in that PC. I research this a bit by googling, and it seems the most common reasons for the error message are a corrupt file preventing Windows 10 from resetting, or the deletion of important files due to an abrupt shutdown. The solutions are fairly lengthy but there's a good article on a website called makeuseof, which you can find be using the error message as the search string. You may need to reconnect the hard drive again for some of these solutions, though.

I am installing a brand new, never used M.2 SSD for the upgrade, and I plan on installing a fresh OS on it. My question is this: Can I (after boot up and all drivers are updated, etc and everything is solid) simply plug in my old SSD & HDD WITHOUT deleting the said info on those drives??? Just one question bro.. can we apply same procedure without removing hdd. Only by adding m.2 ssd. If not thn tell please what should i do i have installed m.2 but windows is pre-installed on hdd from company
@accessrandom3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. To be honest, I'm not sure since having two boot partitions in the same system can lead to the BIOS registering the wrong one (i.e., it may latch onto the boot partition on one drive, but use the Windows installation on the other). If you're using the HDD solely as a backup, what you could do is physically remove it but keep it in cold storage for future use.

So I have made the recovery drive per your instructions on a brand new 32 gb USB. I shut down the PC and installed the NVME and unplugged the original HD. I hooked it up with the recovery drive in and started up the PC and made the selections that you directed. It seemed to be going ok at first, but has been stuck at 29% for about an hour. Any ideas?
@accessrandom3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like there may be a hardware problem with the NVMe. If it all possible, are you able to try it in another machine to see if it works there? On your HP, you can always return to the original HDD since that is still intact (plus you have the recovery drive which has the factory image on it in case you need to restore it to a different NVMe).

I accidentally installed W10 in my gaming pc on my hdd by mistake and want to transfer my W10 to my ssd instead can this video help?
@accessrandom3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question - I believe the factory image recovery partition remains unless and until you explicitly create your own W10 recovery partition, so I believe it would restore the older Windows on the SSD. I'm not 100% sure though, so I'll need to defer to others who may have tried this - anyone? Another option is to clone the original hard drive (which basically creates a copy of your W10 to the SSD), which I've documented in one of my other videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXmmdoGcqJ1qfJY

Well done!!, but taking too much🤣. Which way faster between USB recovery flash drive and Macrium Reflect clone?
@accessrandom3 жыл бұрын
It will depend - a clone will copy everything on the original, so if you already have programs installed then those will take time on top of Windows and any out-of-the-box software that is installed. Otherwise, they should be roughly the same.

Can this be an alternative to cloning if want a clean install on SSD and still keep the hard drive ?
@accessrandom3 жыл бұрын
If you wish to have a clean install on the SSD, it would be better to use a fresh install of Windows from a USB disk (there are many tutorials that describe the process). Cloning simply copies what you currently have to another SSD.

@accessrandom3 жыл бұрын
I have another video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZe2Ymdpec6ehqc that shows you how to wipe partitions off of a drive. If at all possible, attach the hard drive to another, separate computer and wipe it there - then remove it and re-attach it to the computer that has the clone/restore. You should then be able to initialize it as GPT, create new partitions, and use it as secondary storage.

@accessrandom3 жыл бұрын
What you could do is follow the procedure in the video to restore to the M.2 SSD, then reconnect the HDD if you want to use it as a secondary disk (it would still have your original OS/files on it). After making sure you can reliably and repeatedly boot to the SSD, you can decide whether to delete the OS partition on the old hard drive.

What if I were to buy the model with the i5 10400f and gtx 1660 super? What would be your thoughts as to its potential overheating? What about your own experience using this pc in relation to the temps? Thank you in advance.
@accessrandom4 жыл бұрын
For the TP01-1016, I haven't had any problems with high temperatures, but I am not really stressing the CPU that much - I use it as a Plex server with hardware-accelerated streaming, which depends on the integrated 630 graphics on the i5-10400 (so there's no discrete graphics card). The CPU is idle most of the time, and when I do stream, the hardware-acceleration takes the load off the CPU.
@friendlyfella1234 жыл бұрын
@@accessrandom thanks. Would you recommend getting that pc given its power supply is 330 watts? I'm afraid it's not enough to unleash the potential of the 1660 super, but why would hp install such a weak power supply if it limits the power of the components?
@accessrandom4 жыл бұрын
@@friendlyfella123 Power consumption for the 1660 super can be around 140W so I think you should be ok. I'm sure HP would size it correctly, but you probably have very little headroom to upgrade to anything more.
