Just crashed by bimmer hilariously not from speeding( I m actualy a good driver and always was able to control the power) but from a jackass that breaked for no reason way too fast in front of me when I was going 60 km/h, and just didn t expect it. Managed to just graze him but the accident threw me into a parked lorry and the front of my car got totaled(not the radiator or engine though).

Do not be so sure. I saw a video of an accident during WRC racing with a subaru. The car jumped into the air and hit the tree at very high speed. The protection did the job, the safety cage was OK. But the physical force - rapid stop from enormous speed, killed both drivers. Because their vital organs inside their bodies lost their connections due to the physics and they died later in the hospital. So the main thought is : do not think, that safe car can protect You. When You hit something and stop instantly at high speed, nothing can help You even if this is the best Volvo with all the airbags working properly.

I've noticed driving on the Autobahns myself, going say 120-130mph in an E class and a S Merc or 7 BMW is closing in at 200+kph and you want to yield the lane out, but there could be a big truck going 70-80kph, and you underestimate how quickly distances close at those speed differences and nearly clipped the truck. Learned after that.

Here’s a small thing to remember 10Mph is 4.47 metres per second, that’s easily the length of a car a second. So times that by 13 and you have trouble fast especially when it’s per second. (130Mph - 58.1152 Meters per Second - just so you can visualise the distance) Also I didn’t take into factor average human reaction times, road conditions, cars capabilities, drivers capabilities, etc. However it’s the scariest factor and the factor that causes the most damage- speed
@TrondBrgeKrokli
@TrondBrgeKrokli 2 жыл бұрын
@@hausmaster9801 Yes, very few people take into account that what we learn in theory class about the braking/stopping distance in meters is the square product of our actual speed (average) in meters per second. So if we assume that the vehicle speed is 130 mph or 208.91 km/h, a calculated stopping distance would be 20.89 x 20.89 = 436.39 meters (and that is not taking into account the reaction distance, which could be anything from one to four seconds).

A little context to alleviate potential speculation would be nice… Here’s my take: Looks like this is Germany, where it’s entirely legal to drive at high speeds on derestricted Autobahns. Also doesn’t look like the cars were ‘racing’ each other. It just looks like they’re driving quickly, which, again, is not illegal on the Autobahn. As this was a clear day with no traffic, it’s perfectly acceptable to drive 200km/h and be well within your legal right. Sadly the BMW driver lost control for reasons that are not immediately apparent. There’s no need to crucify the guy for making an error. Shit happens. That’s it. Hopefully he didn’t pay too dear a price.

When I was a new driver many years ago. I had a situation that affected my life and I learned something that I stick to to this day. That is always look down the road some people have a habit of only concentrating on the cars that are directly in front of them when I'm driving I'm aware of everything and everyone around me including cars that are coming behind me as I check my rearview mirror all the time and I'm always looking as far down the road as my eyes will take me. This rule has saved my ass many times including a situation coming from Washington DC to Baltimore when I witnessed cars and trucks spinning around on black ice approximately 3/4 of a mile in front of me. If I did not pay attention to this I would have gotten involved in that mess I avoided it.

@@martinsimeonov1563 It's got nothinf to do with speed limit. There is no speed limit on most part of autobahn and there is no more accidents than in other parts of Europe. Also condition of the car is a big part of this. 30 years old BMw is not the best choice I guess.

Commenting on the driver's capability isn't fair since we were not given any further context on the accident. @@danr8194 Remoulds are perfectly okay if you stay within the specs of remoulds. You shouldn't assume that the remould matches the original max speed specs. When you drive 200 km/h, the g-forces on the outer edge of the tyre are in class 2000-3000 G. That's a tough requirement even for perfectly pristine tyres, especially the body of the tyre.

until around 1970 you could drive as fast as you can outside cities. then we started to implement a generic speed limit of 100. a fews later seat belts were made obligatory and cars had to undergo chrash test. within 10 years, the yearly death toll from traffic accidents decreased from 33,000 to 6,500. in 2020 with ESP and ASB, better cars and electronic helpers it is now at 3,300. since 2021 you now must hold a distance of 1,50 meters when overtaking a cyclist. new trucks may now only be registered when they have an emergency brake system. and with a truck you may no not exceed walking speed when turning right in a city.

I don't know why they don't just show dashcam accident compilations in defensive driving courses, so people can see what it looks like from other people's point of view when you come from a blind corner, when you drive in a blind spot, how quickly you can come up on people without realizing it, or how easy it is to misjudge distance/speed from only one perspective.

It’s amazing how people think because the drivers cabin is in tact that it’s a piece of engineering marvel by the cars manufacturer. I’m betting he did NOT hit that truck at 200km/h, if he did then nobody in a BMW would die when they crash at 100km/h and the cabin is a complete mangled wreck. Not only is possible to sustain outward injury but also the propensity for internal injuries by way of a torn aorta, split liver etc just by the forces at play. This is how most people die at the scene of an accident. Use a bit of common sense people

The human body is not made to take an impact faster than we can walk or run into something. People rarely die from throwing themselves at a wall. But if they ride a bicycle and hit a wall, they could die. I remind people how much it hurts to walk into the sharp corner of a table so you get a bruise. Then ask them to imagine what it is like in a car accident where there are mangled cars. Imagine the sharp corner of the table times a hundred.

In a modern car, 120+ mph on a well made stretch of road doesn't actually feel that fast or dangerous. Back in my youth (Before speed cameras went up on every other bridge) I'd regularly do 120+ in a tweaked 2.8 Ford Capri along motorways at night. Now THAT felt quick ! :D

I did 137mph in a lightly modified Renault Clio 172 cup. That car weighed I think just over a tonne and it was the most scared I've ever felt in a car. Everything was shaking or flapping and it was so badly made parts just fell off of it randomly on day to day driving, let alone doing that speed. I've been faster in other cars, but the light weight and shocking build quality made It a very scary experience. That was in my hooligan days, I wouldn't have done that nowadays, especially in that car, I've since grown a brain lol
@Reman1975
@Reman1975 Жыл бұрын
@@vinnyvtec8722 The quickest I've ever drove was in a Porsche 928 GTS that a friend loaned me. It's a long story how I ended up being handed the keys to it, but the hyper abridged version was that something big was happening with his company (Though to be honest, I can't remember exactly what it was. I've got a vauge feeling it was a merger or he was buying out another company) he needed a box of documents delivering to a law firms offices the following day, and they needed to be there without fail the very second their doors opened, but the firm was just under 400 miles away, he had to be in meetings all the following day, everyone who he'd USUSALLY trust to do it also had to be in these meetings, and no courier company would GARENTEE that the box would be there on time. I had the time to do it, but wasn't 100% sure my old 2.8 Capri wouldn't break down on route. When he called and I agreed to go, it was too late in the day to rent a car, so his firm officially employed me for 48 hours so that I was on the companies vehicle pool insurance, and then he loaned me his company 928 to make sure it got done. That car was crazy. Very early in the morning, on an entirely empty motorway (and in the pre speed camera era), I got it up to 160mph before bottling out and dropping back down to 90. It was completely the opposite of your Clio. Even at that speed it felt more refined and planted than my Capri felt at 70. The only problem was that it felt TOO refined. At 100 there was no fuss, no drama, no fighting to keep under control, and absolutely no sense of speed. At just 90 that car was boring as hell. At 70 I was having trouble staying awake (I'd already been awake for 20odd hours at that point). The reason for bottling out at 160 WASN'T because I was scared I might lose control and crash. It was purely that I was suddenly got scared that I'd get caught, arrested, and the box wouldn't get delivered on time. I was waiting outside that firm for about two hours before the place's receptionist turned up, then I waited inside drinking their coffee until the contact arrived at something like 08:30, I presented him the box, got a "chain of custody" type document signed, and called my mate to confirm that it was all done. He sounded seriously relieved and told me a room had been booked for me at a nearby hotel so I could get some rest. It turned out to be quite a classy place that he usually stayed at when he was up there. I was shattered, so went straight to bed and slept right the way through to around 5 that evening. I didn't want to deal with rush hour traffic, so decided to have a late breakfast brought up by room service (The sort of hotels I usually stay at would have told me "Sod off, you've missed breakfast time", but this place was more than happy to cook up sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, beans, and hash browns for me at a time when they must have been busy prepping for dinners). With that all done, I got back in the car at around 7pm and took it significantly slower for the 400ish miles back south. All in all, the trip wasn't as exciting as I thought it was going to be, but it was a nice break from the humdrum of my usual life....... Oh, and a couple weeks later his firm posted me a cheque for £650. I called and tried to refuse it (I was after all just doing a friend a favour), but his secretary explained that as I'd been employed at upper management level for 2 days (The minimum pay grade that got me on the company car insurance) accounting NEEDED to show I'd been paid to validate the hotel, car insurance, and fuel card use. She also explained how the cost was being charged to another company anyway, so I should just take my share of the profit and enjoy it. It didn't feel like it cheapened me doing him a favour quite so much after that, so I cashed it, and spent the lot on some Capri suspension upgrades. 😁

I remember riding in a family member's diesel Volvo at 130 before the smart motorways.. it felt like doing 70 but with a higher-pitched engine sound, and obviously, passing was somewhat quicker.. it wasn't even like we were the only car at that speed. I’m betting pretty much everything that the crash occurred when they encountered traffic sitting in the left lane and had to swerve around it and something happens during that process. If we Americans would ever learn that the left lane is not for camping out in most interstate accidents would stop. Lack of lane discipline is a leading cause of interstate accidents. True, “speed contributed to the accident”, but speed doesn’t kill. As long as they’re unimpeded they can go as fast as they want with no issue, as shown in the first part of the video. But there is always the dipshit who likes to block the lanes for no reason, who just sits in the left lane all the time causing faster traffic to swerve around him when he should be in the right lane. The “Im driving the speed limit so I’ll get in any lane I want” excuse is BS too. That’s not how the lanes are designed to work. If you’re not actively passing someone you belong in the right lane regardless of speed. Many states have laws to this effect. I only wish they would enforce them as rigorously as they do speeding because it is just as dangerous.

Hopefully the driver is okay, but I’m happy that the car that crashed is a BMW. I hate BMW

The Audi doesn’t look as bad as the BMW. Glad that both drivers survived. We give the engineers credit to build such safe cars. Their are just as important as Doctors and nurses.
