This is marvelous for me as a complete novice and beginner who wants to create memories in material of the favourite places I have been and loved, especially Scotland the Hebrides where their beauty, colours and wildness have enslaved my soul. I just need to figure out how to put the traditional white painted cottages, the black houses, 'Tigh Duhb's' into the landscapes. Thank you so much for making it look so easy xx
@karen.eckmeier4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you feel inspired now to capture your memories of Scotland. You could add the little cottages as photographs transferred to fabric, or simply create little cottages out of fabric and appliqué them. Raw edge appliqué is the easiest for the small details on Accidental Landscapes. Have fun!

OMG, It is so nice to see you online! I took a workshop with you years ago with the Milford (Pa) Valley Quilt Guild. I did the fall landscape pattern and got two for the price of one with the leftovers! It was so much fun to play around with the fabrics and it still one of my favorite pieces! I framed mine and gave the other to a senior lady, who loved it! Try the mini quilts-you will love doing them! And I’ll bet you cannot stop with one!! So good to see you again!

Hi Karen. I love this concept. Thanks so much for sharing. I was wondering if I want to add people to the forefront of the landscape should I add the people on to my background before I add the landscape or would it work better to do it vice versa? Thanks.
@karen.eckmeier4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Annetta! Any details get added AFTER the landscape is layered and topstitched. That way you have a better idea of the scale. Lots more info on that in my book "Accidental Landscapes" (available on my website kareneckmeier.com or amazon.com) Have fun creating accidentally!

Do you tack the layers together, then cut away the excess fabric in the back?
@karen.eckmeier4 жыл бұрын
The layers are pinned together (as shown in video toward the end), then topstitched. Excess fabric, which tends to shift toward the bottom is trimmed away.Usually not much, but enough to make tiny landscapes!

How do you add the tiny pine trees and light house? Are they sown on?
@karen.eckmeier3 жыл бұрын
They are tiny bits of fabric that are glued in place, then stitched at the quilting stage with matching thread.
