Accidents, road closures and a 3 kilometre train: Will we ever get on our way?

Join us for the seventh episode of our 15 day self-guided motorcycle tour of British Columbia, Alberta and the Canadian Rocky Mountains. In this episode, we're in Jasper and it's our rest day so we plan to spend the day exploring the surrounding area. The sun is shining too!
We filled the bikes up in Jasper but just as we were leaving, we were approched by a guy telling us that the road we needed to take out of town was closed due to an accident. This meant we had to find another way out of Jasper and on to the Yellowhead Highway.
What followed was a comedy of errors. First the sat nav threw a fanny fit and just kept trying to make us use the closed road. Then, we arrived at a railway crossing just as a three kilometre train was passing. We sat for nearly 30 minutes waiting for it it pass. Finally, when we did manage to find out way to the Maligne Lake road, it had been closed by Parks Canada to protect the environment.
We gave up and headed back to the Icefields Parkway and the Athabasca Falls. Powerful and picturesque, the Athabasca falls didn't disappoint. They were simply stunning. After a picnic lunch there was just time to ride further south along the Icefields Parkway to the Sunwapta Falls. Another amazing place to visit.
In our next episode, we leave Jasper to ride the Yellowhead Highway south to Clearwater for two days in the Wells Grey National Park.
