It’s such an honour and a pleasure to work with you on this amazing project Jörg! I am amazed at how far we have already come with this design together in such a short period of time! Interesting to add to your explanation about the curve being a natural translation of the movements of the arms during deployment of the knives… The curve also give the user knowledge as to what end the edges of the knives are going to end up during deployment. By design.. it is away from themselves when the pull the blades apart with arms in front (given they are holding the curve shape such that it will follow the natural curve of the arm movement). Viewers of the channel: I’d be honoured if you check the video description.

Joerg and Marten, I know is probally not a good idea to take random recomendations from viewers but here's mine: Make sure that closing of the blades can be done without precision or skill by the user. Having said that, and option cloud be a Conical guide or funnel that guides each blade to the right spot, is really an amazing desing and could be made with a lot of users in mind, like a toy for kids, kitchent knife for the general adults, or a cool knife to have for collectors.

It's a great way to get a lot of blade out of a compact package. The immediate possible issues, are of course the structural integrity, since the blades are so long, and essentially sit on a mechanism, which can be tough be make sturdy. But not impossible. Secondly, the blades necessarily don't align with the hand, thereby making it harder to accurately cut. But as long as they're sufficiently sharp, it shouldn't be much of an issue. I'm very interested to see some stress and cutting tests with a prototype. It's definitely an intriguing design.

*Amazing* I didn't understand at first but then i realized an extended half-blade is in the handle of the other handle and the extra half is stored *IN* the handles allowing for the blades to be protected but also as long as both handles combined. I would just want straight blades and to add some material to the back of the blade inside the handle to help connect it to the handle a bit more. Brilliant work! 👍

What a cool Design! The locking mechanism makes me think it could have an abrasive surface (or even a diamond surface) on the side where the other blade is inserted so the blades sharpen themselves while being drawn or inserted. The Locking Part would have to be thicker on one side so its angle would allow to only sharpen the blades edge.
@oldoma110 ай бұрын
This would only sharpen the upper half of the blade though... So maybe its a dumb idea :D

These aren't work knives that require a lot of sharpening. I bet people pull them apart a lot just for the fun of it, so it's probably not a good idea if they get pulled through an abrasive sharpener every time

Cool design Joerg. I am thinking the blade base still needs to stop somewhere further back in the handle so at least a partial tang is achieved. If the base of the blade comes out too close to the end of the handle, that will probably be a weak point in the blade/handle attachment point. Like the tanto tip Samuri sword look.
