Rookie mistake….. I’m not sure what happened but I seem to have cut out the first 15 seconds of the video!🤦♀️ “In 2023 just under 1/2 million people arrived in Santiago de Compostela after completing a Camino and I was one of them!” (That’s what was missing!) 😅 If you have an accommodation highlight along the Camino, please share it below! 👇

I didn’t relish dormitory sleeping before I went. So I decided to avoid albergues and hostels as best as possible. But I HAD to book the monastery at Roncesvalles and Hostel Suseia 😊 at Zubiri because of lack of options. I also booked an Airbnb room at Pamplona for night 3. I loved the first two nights. Everything was perfectly set up for pilgrims. Cold can from the vending machine to chug on arrival, laundry facilities, bed, shower, a meal to eat with other pilgrims, sleep of the dead due to exhaustion, breakfast and away! The Airbnb was awful. Nothing was convenient. I missed the buzz of the travelling circus. From then on, I ONLY stopped in A&H. Another fave was Hostel B in Belorado. A huge dorm of widely spaced single beds. No bunks. Hostel Borda sounds a great option for Day 1 thanks!

It’s funny how we can adjust to the communal living! I did enjoy mixing it up with private rooms. The best private rooms were in albergues as this was the best of both worlds!

@Kate_Pilgrim9 ай бұрын
Thanks :) Yes I totally agree with you about point 1. Donativo does not mean free! Please pay a fair price for the bed and meal (if food is served). Buen Camino!

We absolutely love varying our accommodations from shared rooms to private rooms. We are planning to stay at Borda this summer. ❤ Love that pool!! We are headed back for our 6th Camino this summer and can't wait. Buen Camino!

Very nice review of accommodation options on Camino. It is pretty remarkable the range of accommodations on the Camino.

Thank you for your video. Very helpful. Your respectful explanation on how bag transport works has been much appreciated. I am considering using the service for my upcoming camino and I have seen some hurtful comments on KZbin on this subject. So, thank you!

You are welcome! Have an incredible time on your Camino Marie!

I will also use the bag transport because I have big problems with my back and my feed. It is my decision to use it, if other pilgrims are willing to carry my bag too, they can do it. Btw. : are you from Vienna, just because of your user name?

Several of my questions answered in this video. Thank you! BTW, that biblical reading regarding Elijah (Kings 1) was the reading at this past Sunday's Mass.

Hi there, great videos - thank you for creating and posting! Any chance you could give a typed list of your accommodation recommendations? I'm trying to write them down, but want to make sure I get the spelling and locations correct. Looking to begin it in a couple of weeks time/beginning of October...

Thanks for the encouragement. I don’t have a list. But… In my Pilgrim series I do flag any highlight stays along the way. Not everywhere I stayed was a highlight - sometimes it was literally a place to get a shower, get clean and my head down. But there were some definite gems along the way and I tend to mention those in the series. Buen Camino! kzbin.info/aero/PLr5akrDr1CWYwG_aopzK7P1FNEj10tn0e&si=e3irJJg5A9QkIz0j

What are some favorite places to stay in Porto and Santiago? thank you
@Kate_Pilgrim11 күн бұрын
Hospederia San Martín Pinario have hotel rooms and pilgrim rooms in Santiago. You have to email them direct to book a pilgrim room. I haven’t been to Porto.

Great video, Kate. As usual! Borda looks amazing. Only concern is that it seems to be right by SJPDP. Do you know the approximate distance between SJPDP and Borda? Getting ready for my first Camino in 4 months. Thanks a lot!
@Kate_Pilgrim7 сағат бұрын
Hi - it’s not far at all. 8.5km. But it’s over 24 to Roncesvalles over the mountains. So we opted for a short first day. Buen Camino!
@NGCosta7 сағат бұрын
Thanks again, Kate. I like your plan for Borda and Roncesvalles. Borda seems to be booked up for April 2025 already. Contacting them directly to see if that is indeed the case. Cheers!

Orisson would also be a good option. It’s only 1km before Borda

Thank you so much for this informative video! One question regarding booking ahead 'as you go' : when you are texting or calling the locations did you need to text/speak Spanish or was English okay? Thanks also for your suggestions on various accomodations!
@Kate_Pilgrim8 ай бұрын
Hello! I used Google translate for texts. My level of Spanish was poor - but I tried! (I didn’t learn it at school so just did a few weeks of duo lingo before I went). I would always start with “Hola, hablas Ingles?” If they said no - I would basically say “Tiene una camiseta por una chica esta noche por favor?” If they said “Si” I would give them my name! If I wanted a room I would ask for “Una habitation privada”. It was scarey at first as I was scared to speak in a language I didn’t know. But it got easier. I did prefer to text, but sometimes a phone call was required. Buen Camino!

Do you ever sleep under the stars on a perfect night in particular on the Mesita?
@Kate_Pilgrim8 ай бұрын
I didn’t pack a sleeping mat. However I met people who stayed at the San Anton monastery ruins (which is a very basic albergue) where there is the option to sleep outside in the monastery ruins. This is in the Meseta. There are also people who stealth camp along the trail - but this is not actually permitted as far as I am aware.

It is illegal to camp along the Camino unless it is an organized campground. Although I did see an occasional small tent off in the distance. And I know of people who got to places, exhausted and could not go on, and actually slept one night beside a river behind some trees and another night on the steps of a cathedral.
