This was great to see, all those familiar places...i walked for 3 months this year from my home in Belgium to Santiago and on to Muxia and Finisterre. I loved walking through France, i loved the camino Francés, i loved the Meseta and so many other places ♥ Thanks for sharing

Great video, Kate. As usual! Borda looks amazing. Only concern is that it seems to be right by SJPDP. Do you know the approximate distance between SJPDP and Borda? Getting ready for my first Camino in 4 months. Thanks a lot!

Hi - it’s not far at all. 8.5km. But it’s over 24 to Roncesvalles over the mountains. So we opted for a short first day. Buen Camino!

Thanks again, Kate. I like your plan for Borda and Roncesvalles. Borda seems to be booked up for April 2025 already. Contacting them directly to see if that is indeed the case. Cheers!

it's not Camino but in Iceland I was getting attack by Arctic tern Bird. there were so many wild animal I was by myself. I have never hitch hike before it was first time I was brave enough to ask help to save me. luckily I met sweet couple who saved my ass from middle of nowhere. I am very shy person. I cannot believe I over calm that shyness to save my stupid ass walking into wild.

I have experienced the attack of the arctic terns in Iceland! At one time I was driving and my dad got out of the car to take photos of them and then they just dived bombed his head!! I was with my sons in the car and we were laughing so much as he turned and ran for cover back to the car!! 😂 I can totally understand why you would overcome shyness in that situation to be rescued!

Not very smart wearing earbuds or headphones while walking the Camino, especially on the sections along highways and such. Even on the sections away from vehicle traffic there's the danger of not hearing a bicycle approaching behind you. I have walked the Camino several times, different routes. I've literally seen pilgrims getting hit by bicyclists. Prospective pilgrims, walk safely. Don't wear headphones. 🙅♂

I didn’t relish dormitory sleeping before I went. So I decided to avoid albergues and hostels as best as possible. But I HAD to book the monastery at Roncesvalles and Hostel Suseia 😊 at Zubiri because of lack of options. I also booked an Airbnb room at Pamplona for night 3. I loved the first two nights. Everything was perfectly set up for pilgrims. Cold can from the vending machine to chug on arrival, laundry facilities, bed, shower, a meal to eat with other pilgrims, sleep of the dead due to exhaustion, breakfast and away! The Airbnb was awful. Nothing was convenient. I missed the buzz of the travelling circus. From then on, I ONLY stopped in A&H. Another fave was Hostel B in Belorado. A huge dorm of widely spaced single beds. No bunks. Hostel Borda sounds a great option for Day 1 thanks!

It’s funny how we can adjust to the communal living! I did enjoy mixing it up with private rooms. The best private rooms were in albergues as this was the best of both worlds!

Your Camino big vlog is such a pleasure. Thank you. I agree with all these points. I packed the guidebook when lots of people said to just photo the maps. I also took a kindle not realising that the entire day is about walking, feeding, cleaning, resting, repeat! No time for reading. My biggest error was not stopping on day 1 at Orrison. That day killed me. I only made it as far as Burgos. In 2018. Unfinished business. I’m looking forward to making my way through your other vlogs. I did the Fisherman’s Way in Portugal recently and that’s a big recommend. I wish I had a £1 for every Buen Camino greeting I heard on the Frances!

Warning: You have been infected by the camino longing disease. You will inevitably do it again. I have walked it 9 times since 2013. Three times full Frances, three times from Burgos. One time camino portuguese, one time Primitivo and one time Via de la plata. This may sound strange - but try to disconnect from your first camino, you can't relive the "First Camino" and it's hard not to compare.
@Kate_Pilgrim29 күн бұрын
Hi Jesper! thanks so much for that tip about not reliving the first camino. I’ve been back to Spain since and walked the Camino Ingles and hope to do another next summer. Yes I think I will be a serial camino walker! Buen Camino!

Hi Kate Have thoroughly enjoyed watching all your vlogs. Thank you for the time and effort taken to film and edit them. I managed to walk from Sarria to SdC last February with my daughter with 2 weeks notice and totally unprepared 🥴 But I was amazed that I could walk 114km after a wet Winter with little walking and totally fell in love with the Camino. I have always been a simple soul anyway and long to return at some point to do the full Frances Camino while I still have health. Did you vlog your Camino Ingles ? No worries if you didn’t 😂 x

HI Kate, many thanks for this video. I have, just like you, done 40 days of Camino this summer (leaving SJPlP on Aug 8) all the way to Finisterre. I am, or better I was, not a hiker at all but enjoy a walk from time to time and my age is very similar to yours. The return to 'normality' hit me like never anything had hit me before. After 40 days without any big responsabilities (no house, car, job, kids, wife) the coming back was very heavy indeed. I love my wife and my kids and I do like my house and my job, but to have to deal with it all, more then ever because having not been there for over a month, was more then I had expected. After three weeks of being back I had a very low moment of feeling extremely depressed, having the feeling that i would not be able to save anything from my great Camino experience at all in daily live. I was so happy to have found your video to learn that that is quite normal and that things will look up again in a couple of weeks. So many thanks for your work and I loved you entire Camino documentary. Hope you're doing well. Buen Camino. Berten

Thank you for sharing how coming back home from the camino has been hard for you. I think now I’m home I realise that applying the camino to my life is really helpful. Also I know I need to walk. Every now and again I go on longer walks with friends, my husband or daughter. I am fortunate as there are plenty of pilgrimage and secular trails in the UK. I make time and get out into nature again and it really helps! Buen camino!

Kate I am half way through the full camino. I walked the central Portuguese in 2022, the coastal in 2023, in 2024 I will walk from Pamplona. Yes I experienced exactly the same emotions and craving simplicity on return to Australia. Unless others have experienced the camino it is so hard to describe. I know in my heart my camino journey will not be over until I reach Santiago new year. My fantasy is to finish on my 74th birthday. I also now declutter and my priorities have changed so much…for the better. Life is more positive. Thanks Kate, now back to the long documentary.
