Hi Kate, the algorithm put me onto your videos! ha ha ha I really enjoyed them; you captured the way very well! I did the Camino Frances in 2022 and last year the Camino del Norte. I took a bus to Muxia from Santiago and walked from Muxia to Finisterre (a days walk). If the weather is clear, go to the top hill in Muxia for the sunset. It's breathtaking! I'm returning to walk the Camino Frances this July, I wish you all the best on the path! Buen Camino!

Buen Camiño! I’ve just arrived back in the uk. Thanks for the suggestion though. I did make it out to the point at muxia to see the sunset 🌅 The Camiño Norte sounds amazing. I would love to walk it some day. Have a fabulous Camiño in July!

Ah thank you Tim! We have had rain every day!! Yesterday when I filmed this short update - it was particularly heavy rain (believe it or not - I filmed when it lightened up!). It’s rain again today! You just have to accept it and enjoy your Camino! It helps you really appreciate things like a cafe to take a break in and the beautiful sunset over the sea even more!

I'm curious why you weren't using your umbrella when it was raining. Was it too windy, or just not your preference?

I use it for the sun! It’s an ultralight sun umbrella but could be used in the rain. However I usually just wear a rain jacket!

Roughly how long would it take to complete it all in the one go? I'm planning on going next march or the 25th July
@Kate_Pilgrim24 күн бұрын
Hi - It depends on how far you are able to walk each day. I took 39 days to walk from St Jean Pied de Port to Finisterre. I think to Santiago 34 or 35 days is comfortable. some take longer some can finish much quicker than that! I hope that helps!

Trying to find advice on how you arrange accommodation or do you just this from village to village. Food / Payment how does this work. What is sensible to have in your backpack
@Kate_PilgrimАй бұрын
Hi Crispin please check out my packing video and my accommodation video for more info on these. As long as you have emergency snacks and water with you (I like to have a cereal bar and some nuts). I take some cash with me (maybe up to 100 euros and top up at cashpoints along the way) and use card payments when I can. Food is readily available in cafes and bars and in the evenings it is often at the accommodation you will be staying at. Buen Camino!

Hi Kate, I’ve just subscribed after seeing a comment on Nick’s channel. This is the first of your videos I’ve watched and it was a tough watch indeed. I finished my Camino in León on 10th May having walked several days on the meseta with tendinitis in my knee. I was absolutely gutted but knew I had to stop as walking downhill became just about impossible. I’ve also had that same injury to my foot as you but on a previous Camino and after a couple of days rest I was able to continue so hope you managed to continue too. (it’s after midnight and I’ll catch up with your next instalment tomorrow 😅). I’m planning to return to León in September to pick up where I left off. Anyway I really enjoyed your video and seeing the meseta again, even though it’s still fresh I’m my memory. Cheers and Buen Camino.

This is a wonderful and a great video about your pilgrim journey. I am from Canada and in October I will go on a pilgrim trip to Funchal . Madeira Portugal , Fatima Portugal and Santiago de Compostela . it’s my vacation for two weeks . I’m 62 years old.and I have a bad back . I’m going to fly directly to Santiago de Compostell, and from there, I will stay at a hotel then I will go to the cathedral and I will say my prayers I will go to Confession, Holy Mass , and that will be my pilgrim trip to, this holy place where the relics of Saint James apostles are kept.

What is your average km per day??
@Kate_PilgrimАй бұрын
Hi Paul - that’s a tricky one! I don’t know. on this blog my shortest day was 16km and my longest was over 30. Usually I would say somewhere between 24 and 30. Sometimes more and sometimes less. But I needed recovery time in Leon and had already taken a rest day in Burgos and also had a nearly zero day of 8km one week in. So it was all very variable! Towards the end of the Camino is when I was able to consistently do longer days and manage to keep this up even when there were hills. But I was fitter by then.

@Kate_PilgrimАй бұрын
Hello! on the Camino Frances you can literally follow the yellow arrows and scallop shells all the way across Spain without a map! In cities it can become slightly more confusing when leaving. But the arrows are still there and locals are always willing to help. I also used the map in the wise pilgrim app to work out where I was in relation to the trail a few times. But yes - it’s easy to keep to the trail! Buen Camino!

@@Kate_Pilgrim Wow what a nice reply to receive! And as for the albuerges, I’ve been thinking and reading about them - is it true you just turn up at the “checkpoints” and stay where you can find? Heard that most aren’t advertised online so was a bit worried that I’d not have anywhere to sleep!

On the Camino Francés, from Sarria in, be on the lookout for fake pilgrims. They are few and far between, but they are there and some of them are very good at what they do. They will steal from you in the albergues, pick your pockets in bars and restaurants, and even spike your drinks when you’re not aware. A great rule to work with: Hang out with those you met in the first 680 km. Buen Camino!
@Kate_PilgrimАй бұрын
Sadly I have heard of this approach being used and it is important to keep your wits about you and be cautious. But there are also plenty of people (genuine pilgrims) who start the pilgrimage at Sarria who struggle to feel part of the Camino community. It’s lovely to spend time with people you already know but also great to include people who have just started their Camino. Buen Camino!

Hi! I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos. I’m working on the next one. Sorry I am not 100% sure where it was. There was a possible alternate route after atapuerca and I remember taking the left along with most other pilgrims. We followed a road which led to a village and this was the first cafe we came to on the left. The village may have been Cardinuela Riopico but I’m unsure. it was definitely the first cafe we came to though after atapuerca! It’s very exciting that you have a Camino planned for next year! Buen Camino!
