According to Islam Is Masturbation Illicit?
Prof. Dr. Zeki Bayraktar
Onanism is an action that we refer to as masturbation. We know that illicits in the Qur'an are clearly declared. Issues such as sexual illicits; forbidden state of adultery, no sexual intercourse can be made without marriage, are reported loud and clear. Therefore, there is no Qur'anic prohibition / illicit related to masturbation. So it is not possible for us to say that this is forbidden for the Qur'an. How do we medically look at it? In fact, both the medical and religious classically proposed things are more or less considered to be the same. Our classical jurisprudence has also said that this can be done when there is a great need, when it is felt compulsory. But for the extremeness of this, not only religious reasons, there are theories and hypotheses, although there is no definitive evidence that it may cause medical disorders and sexual dysfunction. But we can't say it's forbidden.
