Even though piano is such an expressive instrument, I think this melody is meant to be played on accordion. Even after various great interpretation of this piece in piano, I still falls back to this version. There is just something so chill, nostalgic, 1920s street vibe in here
@ricardor63882 жыл бұрын
I'd argue that the piano has a purity to it, where as the accordion evoques authenticity maybe ? :)

It's a real shame that the accordion isn't more thought of. This piece was written for a mostly full orchestra, and later arranged for the piano among other instruments. And while piano is a very expressive instrument, this piece especially sounds like it was meant for the accordion because of the type of music that is generally played for the instrument. So many other pieces work so much better on the accordion and it's a real shame no one thinks of it first. And the people who do write the music wrong because they don't know how it's supposed to be written... I've been playing an accordion for about 2 years; Switched from piano. And in these years I realized I had to rework so much music because some pieces are too complex despite definitely being meant for the accordion, or on the other hand had to transcribe pieces because no one ever thought of the accordion for those pieces even though, genre of music, era of music emulated, and instrument used resembles the accordion. I think the problem lies with the consistency of the instrument. Because the accordion has had more iterations of types of tone and styles of playing and even different versions of accordions altogether. often times when people are looking for an accordion in their music, but when they hear it back it isn't what they were going for. I'm not saying the instrument suffers from its versatility, instead music composers suffer from being unable to grasp what an accordion is capable of because of the versatility, as well as the complicated way you actually write the music. Composers not being able to utilize the instrument in the way they like because of the vast knowledge needed to use the instrument in pieces hinders the popularity of the accordion. Such is why most performances are either solos or duets; the accordionist has a strong part in helping to interpret the piece, and in most cases reworks the piece to better fit their accordion. The worst part is the instrument is popular in a lot of film and game soundtracks, but if you listen closely enough you'll notice the instrument is most likely synthesized because accordionists are too few to find one for a recording. The reason I can tell is the unique anatomy of the instrument; being that most buttons on the bass play a chord as to accompany the right hand. In most cases the music only has a single tone which is often the low and the musette reeds, which is fine, Especially when the instrument is hard to work into due to its bass being the way it is. However. The low & musette register... Is often the wrong choice for the piece involving the accordion. Accordionists wouldn't have an issue changing to either the low, middle, and high (sometimes called the master) register, or another Register that sounds better. But because the composers of film and game soundtracks think that low & musette to be what an accordion sounds like, they use synthetic accordion sounds. To be fair only accordionists can hear the difference so it's not that bad. And to be even more fair, when I hear an accordion in any soundtrack I feel a little better because at least the accordion was thought of. And to be the fairest, accordionists are too far and too few, so it's understandable that they'd choose a synth or recording over spending too much money on flying one to the recording booth (Most likely from another country), and avoiding the hassle altogether. But still, if in my opinion the accordion needs to be thought of more. Our repertoire is too small.

I never understood the general preference for full button accordions (as opposed to keyboard accordions) until I heard this guy played 2:59 and 3:21.
@poisonrozzie3 жыл бұрын
I feel I wouldn't be able to understand the button system unless they were colour coded: b/w for the melodic half, in different shades for each "row" of octaves; full rainbow for the bass and chords. Something like that :/. Keyboard instruments are a lot easier to get used to.
