I've just started using the accu-chek. On my old ultra2 blood monitor, I used to be able to get blood drops easily. Mostly I used finger 4 (left hand) and pinky (also left hand). I just tried using my middle finger left hand, and got the required blood drop, which was great. But on my old two fingers (4 and pinky left hand) I was unable to draw blood. I am using blood depth 3. Could it be that the skin on finger 4 and the pinky has gotten hard and the needle will not penetrate?

I could be your skin is thicker, or the new lancets are thinner than the ones you were using with your Ultra2.

My mom is 288 lbs, her glucose was 172 and a1c was 7.8%. The Dr wants her to start metformin 500mg daily in hopes it can keep it below 130. Should I wake her up to test it or just before she eats? Should I give her the pill before or after the test? What if it goes above the 172? Do I take her to the hospital?

Advisable you take her to the hospital. The Doc knows what's best.
