Yes we dont recommend for black water, even grey water can be a problem. We have our new Phased Coherent radar sensor coming which will monitor black, grey and of course fresh. It will be bluetooth to Victron's Cerbo

Thank you for this very clear explanation. I already have an ethernet cable and regular 1.5mm² copper cables running from my basement to my water citern. The length is about 30 meters. Based on your explanations I understand I can perfectly use your IP68 sensor. I just need to ensure the air tube is above the water level of my water tank and then connect the two wires to some of the existing cables (doesn't really matter whether I use one of the thinner or thicker cables as the calibration will take into account the voltage drop). Is that correct?

Can you explain, you say these are not waterproof but say that they need to be fitted inside a tank?

shadowswan there are Three grades of “waterproof” IP 65,67 and 68. The last one IP68 can be fully submerged. IP67 can be fitted outside in the tank and can travel through water crossings easily. IP 65 may not survive water crossings.
