After watching what feels like a hundred different videos about setting up my jointer, this is the clearest, most simple and most accurate method I've encountered. Good work PW!

Thank you. I've watched a few videos on setting the outfield table. First one I've seen with the chalk to check for any snipe.

Thank you for this video, I never thought about resetting the out feed table after changing the blades

Thank you. I purchased a jointer for $50. Yes, it is rather used, but the knives according to the seller had been changed recently. However, I thought something was seriously wrong with it (or me) when I continued to get uneven edges and also a little snipe at the ends. As a beginner I had no idea what caused this, so I turned to KZbin and found a number of explanations, though not as clear as yours. Infinite thanks!

you get a pat on the back from me. everyone else seems to make rocket science out of adjusting the outfeed table. i guess I thought everyone did it this way. been setting the outfeed table like this for 30 years. no indicator is needed, you demonstrated exactly how it should be done.

I have some kind of magnetic gauge for tweaking stuff like this. Ill stick it to the top of my Guide and place the feeler on top of the board and set it perfect. about to try it

Hi. I think I have the same jointer as yours. I bought it second (or third, or fourth...) Hand down here in Australia. I’ve not been able to find a manual or even the correct manufacturer as the motor is not original and the makers mark has been replaced with the now defunct re-sellers badge. Can you please shed any light as to what brand and model yours might be so I can contact the possible manufacturer? Many thanks if you can assist!

1. I know the guard is removed for the demonstration, but please keep hands and rolled-up sleeves well away from the spinning cutterhead. (See 3:27). 2. What was the second outfeed table adjustment, up or down?

For snipe on the tail end of the work piece? Slightly up on the outfeed table. Close the ever so visible gap between the work piece and table. If you have no snipe, tighten everything back up, put the guard back on and let it rip. This video helped me tremendously! I recently changed blades and was getting rough feeds, felt like it was catching on edge of outfeed table and had a terrible washboard cut. I was able to make these adjustments in a few minutes and ended with smooth transition onto outfeed and silky smooth cut again. Great video!!

I am getting deeper cut in the middle of my wood piece. Is it because the cutter knife is too high or too low?
@hansmann18243 жыл бұрын
your infeed and outfeed table may not be perfectly inline across. raise the infeed to the same height and use a straight edge across them, raise and lower as needed. I had to shim my infeed up at the furthest end. Just buy a set of cheap feeler gauges at a car supply store and use the one you need, cut it in half and place under bed and tighten the bolts back up

This video doesn't even talk about the tables being coplanar and how to adjust if they aren't. Makes it look so easy when it isn't.

set the blades up with a deflection gauge to the same height of your outfeed table

Why now simply joint two boards after adjusting, then hold them against each other to check? No light showing anywhere along the entire length and you're golden. Your chalk method isn't conclusive.

The top of the arc of the knife must not be in line with the top of the outfeed table. The top of the outfeed table must be in line with the bottom of the board which is produced by the bottom of the arcs on the board. The outfeed table must be about the thickness of a piece of paper (.003") below the top of the arc of knives. If someone runs the board across the cutterhead slowly the bottom of the scallops will be very different than if the board is run across the cutterhead at a rapid rate. This is especially noticeable if someone runs the board across the cutterhead at a constant rate and then at the ends slows down a lot. If the outfeed table is adjusted for a typical constant rate and then the person shows down at any point the bottom of the scallops produced on the board will more closely approach the top of the arc of the knives. If this happens at the end of a board it will produce what appears to be a snipe and it will show especially when two boards are placed together at places where the operator slowed the feed rate.

Ive turned straight boards into wedges because I caught the problem too late
@knaptonmawson5 жыл бұрын
mountainman78629ify . Hi I was using our jointer today and I turned my 12 x10 into a wedge too. I think in this case it's your feed table, that's the problem. Mine dipped 2mm down . Which means to clarify , the first half of the table before the cutter, of course you may wonder if that is possible, yes it is as our table lifts up so you can use the thicknesser and then lay it back down again to use the jointer top table and it wasn't true. I hope this makes sense .
