I've had one of these for about 10 years and hands down the best knife sharpener I have owned. Only complaint is the diamond texture on the file flaked off the 1st attempt on using it. I also use the rod like a chef's rod or ceramic rod works great. The rod also screws on & off the tool. The reason that squeals is because you used way to much pressure. Lightly run the blade at 90 degrees and you will be able to shave with it. [Edit] the rod is also perfect for sharpening chainsaws too. When figuring how to finesse the blade you can turn a butter knife into a razor. It takes a bit of practice to get the right angle and pressure but when you do you will be amazed..

It looked and sounded like you were were using way too much pressure with both the carbide and ceramic stages. Unless you are trying to remove a lot of metal to fix major edge damage (nicks/chips in the blade) you shouldn't need to put much more pressure than the weight of the blade when you use either the carbide or ceramic stages. The carbide is so much harder than any knife steel you will be removing metal even with very light pressure. It may take more passes with lighter pressure, but you'll have more control and get a much better result. The ceramic is really there just to clean up the "rough" edge the carbide leaves, especially if you use too much pressure with the carbide. It also looked like you weren't holding the knife at 90°. That may have just been the camera angle though. Its worth mentioning because if you let the knife get too far from 90° in a pull through it can actually dull the knife. I use a single stage, carbide, accusharp for pocket knives and kitchen knives. It does decent job, generally speaking. There are better sharpeners, but these are quick and easy. Especially if all you need is a working edge.
