Sometimes I wish I could reach through my screen and slap the commentators, especially when they say crap like "I don't know why Reyes played the balls the way he did" even though Reyes is a much better player than both of them combined and every shot was set up perfect for the next ball and he ended up running the rack out. There's a reason why he is on the table playing and you are in a booth talking about the match.

@MrJdsenior3 жыл бұрын
Is likely, but will "always will be"? Not even remotely likely. There is always a next Efren, Tiger Woods, Mark Spitz, Scotty Hamilton, Dick Fosbury, Roger Bannister, and hundreds of others. Many many 'somebody elses' will arise that will push the game to an entirely new level, just as he (and the other Fillipinos, Busty, Pag, etc) did in the kick safing area. The Chinese seem to be becoming the new FIlipinos presently, and guys like Ko are shooting at tremendous levels of capabilities. Efren is/was one special dude though, no question, my favorite to watch, even now, but unfortunately now pretty much limited to one pocket, it seems, at least at pinnacle level. We all get older. And I agree he is practically the definition of 'class act' as he demonstrated here multiple times.

@thedevilinthecircuit14149 ай бұрын
It was a ridiculously over-priced gimmick that really was no better than a $5 plastic Wal Mart rack. The reason is the cloth develops dimples over time from racking and the balls will settle despite where the rack places them. The announcers always talk it up because Sardo was a sponsor. @MrJdsenior3 жыл бұрын
"Prove those n wins for Efren weren't a fluke" WTH, what kind of nonsensical statement was that????? Good point on the lag. When you make the number of mistakes these pros make in a typical match ANY lack of any aspect of the game is damaging. You don't have to freeze eye contact on the object ball, some pros hit with their eyes on the cue ball. Matter of choice. And I've seen people make VERY high runs with their eyes totally closed on every shot, so there's that. "...let Efren get momentum and you are in trouble". No kidding, if you are playing him, you are probably in trouble from the get go, and I've seen him come from WAYY behind many times, so often he doesn't even need momentum, at least not out front. I had to laugh when the commentator said "see, the balls really spread out" during an Efren break, which was DRY, to support his "Efren has a good break" point. A dry break is not a good break, it's the absolute worst, and the LAST thing you want on a dry break is the balls spread WELL, not that you can do much about it. Most pros don't try to 'break safe" except always in one pocket, and occasionally in straight pool, if no pocketable ball is available. It was like, well, I made the comment, now how do I salvage it here. Also that table was not remotely well spread, there were at least semi problematic balls in multiple areas. If I made that break, I would NOT consider it one of my good ones, and compared to Reyes, or any pro, I absolutely SUCK at the game. LOL I totally agree with the playing in the Philippines comment, a rather astute observation, and I've thought of it before watching Filipino games, where tables are open environment, people are honking horns ALL the time during games, loud motorcycles are driving by, spectators are moving around and yelling out bets and throwing hands around, even when players are down on the first shots, etc. I laugh when some player, like Strickland, complains when some VERY minor thing happens which he claims distracted him...what a bunch of nonsense. I've found when you are in the zone, what happens around you is most often of very little consequence. Somebody doing something REALLY inconsiderate, like walking across your shot two feet away from the table at back swing, now THAT I can see hosing you up. And compared to Strickland, some of the snooker players are absolutely ridiculous about it. "Well he's not going to do it that way" LOL Dumb pro, I guess. :-/ I've always noticed that commentators play PERFECT pool, from the booth, when they disagree with a pros choice. Occasionally they are proven right though, but they'll often say "see, that's why I didn't like that shot" when something completely unrelated to anything they discussed beforehand happens. It's like making perfect predictions, after the fact, not exactly impressive. Much of the commentary is pretty good though, just picking out some of the humorous stuff. As for the 'forcing Efren to execute", often when an opponent does that they later wish they hadn't, because his safety game is likely one of his strongest points, and he wins them way more often than he loses them, even against the best. That playing carom at professional level gives Efren a BIG hand up there and you see the result time after time, or he comes up with shots like that ridiculous Z he took on, that he made. The 14 the commentators called blocked...I've seen Efren make that shot multiple times, not easy, but not remotely impossible either, it involves a kick carom off the side, often slightly back, on the blocker. It did make it much harder though, no question.

Why did Scott give Griffis BIH in game 4 ...??? Efren made a legal shot. I couldn't find a foul ... WT..?

Bad hit, I had to watch it a couple times 🤷♂️. Great match! R.I.P. Roger Griffis

@@jaywall6305 Do you mean a double hit in the cue ball? Because I slowed it down to .25 speed and he definitely hit the 5 before the 15.

@@djamo1969 I agree. 5 ball was hit first.

@@bennyzerda haha ... a few months later and everyone agrees with me (even myself, having forgotten my previous comment. I think Scott based his ruling off that (unreliable) "rule of thumb" that if the 13 moves quickly it was a bad hit ... as if the speed it moves is adequately reliable. Funny to see people who literally cannot run 3-balls in the commentary here saying things from "efren must not like 8-Ball ... to "who's this Billy guy and why does he talk so much." ... lol.

not sure why he is so hung up on hypothetical outs in the last game... Griffis got out and did an excellent job of doing so. Let it go

Yeah, I gotta agree with most of the commenters, the non-stop "try-to-figure-out-what-they-will-do-next type of commenting is just annoying. If either of them had one-tenth the amount of knowledge about the game, they would know that trying to figure out what arguably the greatest pool player ever is going to do next is a complete waste of time. Can he miss? Yes. Can he get out of line? Yes. He is not perfect but he is BY FAR the best player I have ever seen. I know they have a job to do but it's just psycho-babble most of the time and they are usually wrong.

@tommyboy66893 жыл бұрын
@@AccuStats And that seemed to be all that they agreed on. I don't mind that they sometimes disagree with whatever pattern Efren is going to use to get to the the 8. What bothers me is when they argue about it! Still, they're doing their job and I don't mean to criticize too harshly. Can never get enough of watching him play, win or lose. He is certainly the GOAT!

29:13 if you slow motion the shot on the five ball you see Reyes hits the five ball first. Griffith should not have had ball in hand on his shot.

@@jasonreyes25physics and geometry don’t lie. He’s right, the cue ball vector would’ve caromed into the 8 with the intended trajectory of striking the 5 first. There’s no need to be rude just because you’re wrong.
