i bought this kit for my Speed Cobras last year and the difference is night and day, especially if you play heel-toe. the response when the footboard almost just pushes your foot up as the beater swings back is amazing.. Dennis has done such an incredible job with these

I was wondering about this exact thing. Has it helped with the motion as a whole? I can play heel toe no problem, been doing it for a long time now. Practice plenty. But I notice on chain drives like mine, that in the higher tempos like 250-270, it gets a little “shaky” if that’s the right word to even use. I’ve noticed with direct that I’m able to control the pedal with heel toe at high tempos a quite better. But this was short brief periods just trying other dudes pedals so it was anecdotal. Your thoughts?

I've been practicing heel/toe on chains for the past year. i re-read this comment and might have to bring out some direct drives to test it out. cheers.

Thanks for doing this video! I'm debating on getting these for my iron cobras, but would have loved to see the pedals in motion/playing before you did the conversion. Were they much different? Thanks!

Well the pedals were atleast ”OK before I put the direct drive on. My speedcobras with the doublechain are functioning good, but these direct drives simply adds responsiveness and makes the pedals lighter and faster.

Hey there! Have you found differences in term of punch / volume in the bass drum? Do they make the same bang / power out of the bass drum as the chain drive? I've been sent here from the ACD website.

Hi! You absolutely get the same punch/power with these direct drives as you do with the chains.

I just got this conversion kit and the direct drive hits against the pedal on the upstroke... Any advice?

Did you have to purchase the drive shaft as well or can you just use the stock shaft? And which drive shaft did you purchase for the speed cobra if so?

Hi! Sorry for the delayed answer. You can use the direct drive kit with the stock shaft. I just upgraded to the ACD ultimate driveshaft, because of the stock Tama driveshaft is horrible. There was so much play in the joints after just a couple of months of use, so I wanted to get a driveshaft that I knew was high quality!

There is a spesific upgrade to Pearl pedals. Check ACDs website!

Thank you for this video. Great information. I have been using a Speed Cobra pedal for a few years but recently got a Dixon direct drive double pedal. It is a lot faster than the Speed cobra but the comfort and set up time is much faster with the Speed Cobra. I always thought it would be great to have a direct drive version of the Speed Cobra. Then I heard about the conversion kit ACD offered but I thought it was only for their pedals. Your video helped clear that up for me. I'm very excited to get these kits now. How has it been since you made this video? Have you taken it out to any gigs or sessions?

Thanks for your comment! I gotta say after a while playing with this direct drive conversion kit, I absolutely love it. I've gotten used to the feel of direct drive, and I like it very much. I have a gig on a few months with my band so I havent been able to take it out to any gigs yet. But I gotta say that these parts feel really high quality. Even that I havent used this upgrade for a long time, they seem to hold up very good. There's no lag / clanking (at least yet).

Speed cobras felt too light for me and you can't adjust them. So i sold them and got the Dyna Syncs instead Much better

You can adjust the Speed cobras to feel heavier. Increase beater angle and beater height for example 😊I had to do this since the pedals otherwise felt too light for me.

The Trick driveshaft would suit your pedals much better. I have no idea why anyone would order that diy looking ACD driveshaft.

Yea I bought the trick only because it's cheaper. The Acd drive shaft is legit. I've heard plenty of reputable sources confirm.

I have the trick and it’s fine, no complaints. ACD looks just as quality if not slightly over engineered. Anyone would do great with either.

I have the same doublebass pedal, and I know the Speed Cobra is a great pedal, but I just feel like is way heavier than other pedals, is the Direct Drive kit a good option for the heaviness??

Hi! Well it depends on how you setup the Speedcobra. I think it’s fast and powerful! The direct drive kit made the pedal a bit lighter and it respons faster. So Im very happy with this upgrade. 😊
