Hi AC, I Cerakoted a set of Hooker Headers with the High Temp 1800 degrees V171. It does have to be oven cured at 500 degrees for 1 hour. They came out GREAT! I bought an old oven at a second hand store that sold old appliances. The mid length headers just kept the oven door open just a little but we got her done. Your intake came out great too! One thing and you mentioned it several times are the fumes. There is NO WAY I would ever spray without a GOOD respirator. I used a half mask like you used but I recommend a full-face mask. I was able to get the job done but the fumes given off from the Cerakote really made my eyes tear. So to all folks get a full face mask...trust me. This Cerakote material is a serious coating!! Please do more coating AC, thanks!!

Thanks man, what mask do you use, I'd love to have a full mask for sure!! I want to do some more coating videos this one was pretty fun!!!! Thanks for watching!!!

The intake and exhaust manifolds on my very ratty old 67 vette''s 327 still look good after being cerakoted many years ago.... There are several tiny rusty specs bleeding thru on the cast iron exhaust manifolds, but the aluminum intake still looks perfect. I'm guessing the water wasn't burned off correctly on these, and the cast iron's rust has wicked thru the improperly applied product. Still like the look tho! LOVE the color on your intake....matching Torq Thrust wheels will look great with it! Thanks brother for this video; you always teach me something usable! A+++++

Cool color. Great video as usual. I was thinking on starting my own thing. I was going to do a little bit of a lot of stuff ( metal polishing, powder coating, spray on chrome, sand blasting, & maybe adding on what you just did too). I have experience in all but this. Your video proved it's not that difficult. Thanks.

Using the torch to get the moisture out is a GAME CHANGER !!! Ive done my blocks that way and my headers n exhaust manifolds but I’ve not got the chance to so an intake yet .. ill not paint anything else without heating it up .
@Metalcrafter3 күн бұрын
Wrong. Burning propane creates moisture if the metal is cooler. It is a by-product of combustion (CO2 and water vapor). The moisture you see was made by the propane burning.
@glennramsey9173 күн бұрын
@ thats already beed debunked on uncle tonys garage .. how can a piece of metal be 150 degrease without the water evaporating ? Besides that when i heat metal up with a torch the paint is basicly on there permanitrly .. if i dont it flakes off in about 6 months

Small tip, put some bolts in all the holes tha arent taped over. Itll save you alot of bolt hole cleanup. Pipe plugs in the sensor holes wouldnt hurt either.

I started doing cerakote on guns a long time ago then I did my engine, exhaust and turbo. Came out good I burnt bronze and graphite black. Some parts we're oven cured and some air dry. The air dry C series is better for high heat and the oven cure H series is more durable. I'm getting ready to build a big oven soon.

if you want to save a step in the prep process.. I've been refinishing duck guns and deer rifles for over 2 decades. I use gunkote baked on finishes. I preheat the parts in the oven to 300 degrees for an hour. That sweats all the impurities out of the metal. I wipe the part down after it cools then sand blast it.

Awesome thanks for the tip I'll try some of that!!!!

@@ACDesignsGarage you're welcome. For an oven we modified a warming oven you would find in a bakery. it looks like a stainless steel half fridge. we put the element from a kitchen stone in the bottom of it. It works great and is easy to hang parts in.

Using scotchbright pads , not the best ides when you're trying to clean the surface, all you are doing is sanding the surface you're trying to prep creating more debris you already tried to clean off. You can actually see the aluminum that's being scuffed off. all you need is the brake cleaner, or acetone,and then torch it after to make sure you cook off any residue.
