@@reckless_nin While they did say that, the thing about that not really mattering is because of the fact that they had them say that mainly for dramatic effect. If it was something THEY themselves we’re born as, they would have said something in passing about how they were the exceptions. It’s also worth noting that the word Equestria in FiM is never consistent in what it refers. While it is usually the name of the kingdom C&L rule but other times it is what the world they live in is called. It is quite obvious that C&L in The Crystalling were referring to the latter. If they DID know it has occurred outside of the kingdom of Equestria, they obviously would have said so.

That scene also didn't imply Opaline was always obsessed in defeating the royal SIsters and take over Equestria. She just wanted to prove herself. She probably just study magic for entire G4 series and only traveled to Equestria to discover Twilight who isn't a natural Alicorn rule instead of Celestia and Luna which would make Opaline mad. It's like if you were working in jour worplace for 10 years and the company gave an intern a position higher than you. That would trigger the Opaline's anger and need to take over. Not the dumb childish scene in the flashbacks as MasterCode implied.

To be fair, there were hints of that uppityness in FiM. Luna in particular showed drops on occasion. Plus, they were kids, kids mature. I suspect Starswirl may have had a hoof in molding them. As to Skyros. Even in G4, new places and lore were always appearing out of the blue. The writing never said the sisters were born in Equestria, heck the founding happened long before Celestias reign. Plus, as you said, it's very likely Opaline fabricated the story. It's hinted through her tone that she was the uppity one.

There's still the matter of why Celestia and Luna never bothered to warn Twilight about Opaline. Though it's quite possible that they never interacted with her to begin with - that Opaline had simply watched from a distance and let herself be consumed with jealousy.

Though now that I think about it, the situation with Opaline might have been similar - perhaps she did indeed strike some time before "Friendship is Magic", only to be imprisoned or banished.

It's... not possible, As originally Lauern Faust (Creator of G4) Said that Celestia and Luna at the time were Kind as Foals, as the Earth ponys, and the Other two struggled to "Get Along" with each other... so in a Display of their power Both Luna and Celestia raised the Sun with their magic.. as over time Luna had learn to control the Moon.. and they Met Starswril the Bearded, who later taught them to be kind Rulers... But here in g5 its possible that Over time Opaline possibly had Beef with Twilight because she was the "Successor" to Celestia, So she was either behind the Scenes, Just watching twilight and her friends to not make the same mistakes as the villains did.. so that she could gain an advantage over them... And Because Opaline is a Narcissist, Her "Kindness" was possibly being Rude to Celestia and Luna, and so She's basically "Victimizing" herself, saying "oh my Sisters never cared about me!" As yeah.. I fully get the Alicorn city being real. They alluded to it in the journal of the two sisters. I always assumed that was out of canon, but they finally added it in. It also makes 100% sense that she would know the royal sisters. Every other bad guy in the last show did, and they ALL showed back up after 1000 moons or so. Also, I agree they her waiting this long wouldn't make sense unless something else was keeping her. If she was trapped in a statue or something, it would make sense. Though we will have to see if they reveal that. Also, Opaline absolutely seems like the type of person to be insane and angry at someone, only to blame everyone else for not liking her. So I don't put much in a flashback where they brush her off once.

Oh, the plotholes don't stop there, Master Code. Why didn't any of the Skyros Alicorns help Celestia when she was ruling alone for 1000 years? Why didn't they confront Celestia about Luna’s fall to Nightmare Moon? Why didn't they confront Luna about it after she returned? If it's Celestia and Luna’s duty to raise the sun and moon, HOW were they able to give that role to Twilight simply by infusing a fraction of their magic in an amulet? Where's the amulet today? Someone must've somehow been using it all this time to raise and lower the two. So many plotholes bigger than the Grand Canyon by these few seconds of visual s and dialogue that are so huge it's impossible NOT to see them, yet I'm 100% certain ignore them is exactly what G5 is going to do

This show can only exist as an alternate reality really. G5s biggest mistake is tying into G4. G4 ended. They explored lot. At a certain point it’s time to move on. But they didn’t. G4 is already super expanded so if G5 wants to introduce new ideas, they have to be willing to fill their own horseshoes here. It’s sad because it’s not undoable. I feel bad for the writers because they can’t retcon all of the terrible g4 tie ins and have to try and hamfist solutions to the problems that fall from their sky. The tie in was an objectively bad idea. If that could have been done, we wouldn’t even have a new narrative. We’d have a visual update and continue g4.

Here's my possible theories with this: Maybe Celestia and Luna(being kids at the time) took the attention they got from the other alicorns and it went to their heads(that japoens when kids get too much attention) They could've treated Opaline bad, maybe due to her constantly shoeimg off jer abilities and the sisters coming to think their the best, that could've led Opaline to believe that the sisters were putting on act.(though ot cpuld be similar thing like Trixie & Twilight, we know what Trixie did out of jealousy towards Twilight) Also, the alicorn amulet was brought in that episode, so maybe we'll finally get an explanation on where it came from. Maybe Opaline used it Alain Celestia and Luna in the past, potentially wiping out the other alicorns, so Celestia and Luna banished her somewhere and she was only freed during Twilight's reign. Wouldn't be the first time Celestia didn’t tell Twilight about an important foe she previously banished. As for Flurry, Luna specifically says that Flurry is only alicorn born in Equestria. Which makes sense since we learn Luna and Celestia were born in Syros. A Tale of Two Princesses FiM book, does go more into Celestia's and Luna's reign, when they were just starting out and how they got their cutie marks. Though the only contraction is with the tree of Harmony, since Starswirl and the pillars only planted it after they went to fight the pony of shadows, so Celestia and Luna shouldn't have seen it yet.

The reason why Opaline didn’t attack during Celestia rule could be because Opaline herself was dealing with her homeland and trying to obtain their magic (I mean the crazy mare loves power XD) either that or perhaps Celestia and Luna where more powerful, even if divided. However Twillight was someone who’s magic didn’t rely on herself, but others. That right there is a weakspot. However with the creation of the Unity Cristals it’s likely that Opaline didn’t think it would be the moment to strike (as with the Crystal Twilight could likely beat Opaline) The reason of starting to act now it’s likely because of the return to magic and the fact that we got a cheap version of an alicorn, basically making it the perfect opportunity

Just because you can't answer a question it doesn't mean it can't be answered. Just because something doesn't have an answer, it doesn't mean its automatically wrong. Just because you don't enjoy something mean that its bad. Why didn't she attacked Equestria while Celestia was alone? Perhaps she did, and Celestia was too powerful for her. Perhaps she didn't know that Dragon Fire augmented her fire-alicorn powers, until the dragons become more common in Equestria. It was cannon, Celestia was a "jerk" in her youth, it was the lost of Luna that made her tune down her attitude. Lastly despite Luna and Celestia being her first memories... Opaline has issues with Twilight Sparkle, not Celestia or Luna, also she knows about the Elements as Crystals, not virtues. Probably the study of the elements started way after Twilight's reign, and the she discovered a way to exploit them.

If the writers do not consider those questions important because they do not move their story forward, why should they answer them? Why not fill in the blanks ourselves? For our sake rather than the writers? Should I stay angry the rest of my life for things they do not want to address? Having a reasonable answer, even if its not official at least is an answer? Also If eventually they answer something I can compare what they thought with what they offer. But you are right about something... a headcannon should never be considered as fact, but having a fragile mending is better than no mending at all.

Had G5 been its own universe it wouldn't be bound to the lore of its predecessor (which the writers are ignoring anyway) and I would've been a bit more forgiving since they're making their own lore for this new universe. That being said, however, fixing the infantile writing of the show is another matter though.

It's also hinted in the show itself, there's literally tons of alicorn imagery that clearly aren't depicting Celestia or Luna in the episodes that showed Pre-Equestria time period. Pony of Shadows is also hinted to be one or once was one considering how similar he is to one & where he came in the ruined temple below Hollow Shades having an alicorn mural.

As for why she didn't attack while Celestia was alone, it's possible that she didn't want to press her luck against the Elements of Harmony being wielded by arguably one of if not the strongest Alicorn in the world. And once Luna returned, going into Equestria against two Alicorns isn't exactly tactically sound. Waiting for Twilight to come to power is easier, as depending on how long into Twilights rule, she wouldn't even need to worry about Cadence, because like Celestia and Luna, may have eventually retired, leaving the Crystal Empire in Flurry Hearts care. Depending on how long into Twilights rule, her friends are gone, due to old age, or are much weakened because of age, and there aren't many if any Element bearers available. As you said, not enough information about when she launches her attack, much less in what way. This also doesn't take Discord or other minor and major players into account. In order to do a proper tactical analysis and break down, we need more of the pieces of this puzzle.

Some reason, I have a memory of Starswirl saying he found two unicorns who could control the sun and moon and were then transformed thanks to the 3 tribes uniting similar to twilights ascension. I doubt there was a whole city of Alicornes since it's supposed to be a gift given to thoses who accomplish deeds worth of a princess (or at least until Flurry Heart birth). Luna and Celestia even said themselves that a born Alicorne was unheard of. So either the Alicornes have been retconed or Skyros was a city inhabited by normal ponies.

Maybe Discord have something to Do with the fact that only luna and celestia are the only known alicorn. They needed the elements to defeat him and they were part of the strongest. And if Opaline knew that the magic of the elements weakens after 1000 years then she would knew she stand no Chance. And after Discord became friends with the sisters she needed to wait until she had a Chance to enact her plan for take over but Twillight stood as her last obstacle in the way.

And if she did somehow make one appear, would it even be genuine? Thanks to Starlight, we do know that it is possible to manipulate and even steal cutiemarks. Though she never tried to transfer a cutiemark onto another pony. Here's what I think: the city of alicorns was destroyed and long forgotten. The only survivors would be Celestia, Luna, and Opaline. While Equestria went on with the history we know, Opaline could've been living away from everything and didn't know about the events taking place. Shortly after Celestia and Luna retire, maybe Opaline decides to travel back to Equestria with a revenge scheme. Opaline threatened the friendship of magic so much that Twilight risked herself to save magic, hence creating the gems in G5. That could be why Twilight is nowhere to be seen. And by creating the gems, she banished Opaline much like Celestia banished Nightmare Moon. After decades or even centuries of being banished, Opaline awakens and is ready to take over Equestria. That could be what leads up to G5 and the new movie and series is the telling of how Opaline is defeated.

Hey Ace, even though this is a pretty bonkers thing to come out of this season, what could be some things that you are hoping can come about as a result of this? Personally, I wonder if this could somehow lead to the introduction of other Alicorns now that they are a thing to have come about, and any respective elements associated with them. Also, I must admit, looking back at this, it explains her REALLY annoying obsession with Sparky now that we are aware that she's an elemental Alicorn of fire. Also, now I'm starting to notice how elemental magic could be a small focus depending on if this generation lasts long enough. The earth Pony magic MIGHT just allude to different abilities waiting to be discovered for the races and/or creatures yet to be introduced this generation. P.S. Although I highly doubt this would ever happen and is afraid to see how it would look in 3D, I wonder how a Diamondog would look, or if they would even show a 3D Discord.

I don't get it. People say opaline is just evil flurry heart. That theory makes no sense. Yes opaline was an alicorn, but turning into an alicorn at a young age IS possible. In MLP: FIM, cadence was turned into an alicorn at a young age, celestia and Luna also had a large possibility of becoming alicorns at a young age. Also, there are some differences between opaline and flurry. 1. Flurry has never been seen as evil throughout all episodes ever created in MLP. In season 9, in the last episode, we see adult flurry on a stained glass window and she is clearly not evil. She's helping the empire. So I don't get how people make the theory of how flurry is opaline. 2. Flurry heart was NEVER around the time celestia and Luna were children. So how would flurry be opaline? 3. Flurry and opaline's colors are very similar, but they have differences too. So if anyone believes that flurry is opaline, check the "make your mark" series because you aren't getting that flurry isn't actually opaline.

It would have been interesting if instead of talking about Skyros as this City of Alicorns; it could have been a simple Hunting Village that was ruled by a Chieftain and authority kept by a Huntsmaster in order to give them this Tribal flair to Alicorns in order to distance themselves from being seen as a Unicorn Civilization 2.0, that Alicorns followed ancient customs and traditions with a bent towards Family instead of Friendship as the most important thing to them. We could have had Celestia be the Huntsmaster in her youth and Luna was merely an Outcast due to the conditions behind Lunas' conception flying in the face of their Tribe that when Luna came of age, she and Celestia felt like they couldn't belong to such a restrictive environment and decided to set off on their own.

Still prefer my own backstory idea, where I asked myself... Why was she obsessed with herself and Dragon Fire, as well as immunity to fire? My theory was: She got ALL of that from her parents, and she was a child of a dragon and a unicorn. The dragon giving her greed and fire immunity/mastery, while the Pony... Treated her like a princess, even named her partially in memory of her pet cat... Opalescence. Think about it... That makes so much MORE sense. Not just because I ship SpikeXRarity, but also because the traits just click into place. *Remember... Spike hatched while Twilight was in kindergarten, so only an age difference of 4-6 years. Not a big gap, but for dragons with 1000+ year life spans... Yeah even 20 would be baby in dragon ages.* Opaline is greedy, immune to fire, thinks highly of herself, has a purple coat, oh and sharing a connection with Rarity's cat. Then they could have had a tie in and reveal that baby dragon was her half sibling, that spike had with a dragon after Rarity died of old age.

Well, my HC as to why Opaline didnt strike during the time where there was only celestia, maybe she did try to.. but was caught.. this was a time when Celestias main solution to any major problem was just to get rid of it, such as banish it to the moon or encase it in stone. I think opaline DID attempt to take over equestria, and failed. Celestia probably thought nothing of it and forgot about it. opaline was forgotten... As for this skyros place, still Headcannon but my idea is it was destroyed.. when Opaline and the sisters got older, Opaline RAVAGED the city, and burnt it down... Celestia and Luna could of been some of the only survivours... but idk, im just making this up

Luna and Celestia were born alicorns??: In "The Crystalling", Celestia says the birth of an alicorn is something EQUESTRIA has never seen. I think it's very likely Skyros was a civilization outside of Equestria Celestia and Luna were mean/arrogant?: I think this is just shown this way because it's from Opaline's pov and she likely just felt left out because C+L had such a close bond with eachother. Or maybe not! Maybe they were mean! It's also interesting to see how well their characters developed then Why did Opaline wait that long to go through with her plan?: yeah honestly I think that's just the writing In general, I personally like the idea of Skyros as an ancient alicorn land and home to Celestia and Luna, I always had similar headcanons so it's cool to see that they actually used it in the show. HOWEVER; I really really hope they expand some more on it and on Opaline's past because even if just mentioned on the side, it's a huge plot point and greatly interferes with G4 lore or what we thought we knew. I still have mixed opinions on Opaline since sadly she seems more like a fan made mary sue oc that was forcefully written into the show rather than a well-rounded character so far; but personally, I'm all on board with Skyros! :)

It's one sign among MANY signs that we got through the whole series that the writers never watched the G4 series, and were probably just handed a booklet that had a list of characters and short descriptions, but not the full lore of Equestria. And then they were probably given a few days to write something quick to get into production. There's SO MANY things in the writing of G5 that points to this being the case. Everything associated with G4 is completely messed up. Characters are depicted as being way out of character. It seems like no one even was aware beyond a very superficial level who the characters were and what happened in the series they were supposed to be making a sequel to.

I dont particularly agree, the only new plot points were the name of the ali civilization, and that opaline knew the sisters. In the journal of the 2 sisters (which is canon) they mention a far off alicorn city. all g5 is doing is naming it. Also its very obv that what opaline said isnt what happened at all, shes a massive egotist, and even if thats what she remembered, its been thousands of years. As for why she didnt take over: its a far off civilization, we dont know the logistics. she couldve only found out recently about equestria, or numerous other things. Just because we dont know the full picture yet doesnt make it a plot hole.
