Really great video and I can't wait for the next. Such a clean setup and presentation of points. 1-2 being the initial beginning makes a lot of sense, and I think one if its massive succeses that a lot of later cases don't have is the real sense of the world outside of the courtroom in this. We start with Mia and Maya discussing files and hiding evidence as she had done previously, which highlights the reality of acquiring and processing evidence even we used. There's Phoenix coming back late into the office that gives us a sense of his life; things like him asking Grossberg to be Maya's lawyer first expanding our perspective of defence attorneys; and Phoenix having to maneouvre conversation out of Gumshoe, May, and the Bellboy. The world doesn't let Phoenix get on with the game and because of that, he feels like such an underdog and his successes feel even more impressive.

Been loving your ace attorney analysis vids! Sometimes I like watching other people analyzing cases because I wanna reexperience the ace attorney games but want a more concise version with added discussion about the highs and lows of cases and such. Looking forward to the next video :)

Redd White feels like final boss matrial. If the trilogy was planned out fully before the 1st game entered production than Redd could have been the final boss of the trilogy. You would need to rewrite some stuff, but is possible.

It’s genuinely incredible how immediately gripping, full of emotion, character and drama 1-2 is. It’s basically a microcosm of what’s to come in later cases and games and a huge reason why it’s damn near impossible to drop the series if you beat the first game. If you get attached to the characters, enjoy the gameplay and the drama of 1-2, they’ve got you for good.

The comparison to yaoi is fair, because i also find the queerness in the Ace Attorney series to be hollow and threadbare. There are no canonical gay couples in the entire series. There is one lesbian couple in AA5, but the pair are never shown AS a couple (one is dead). (Arguably, Adrian and Celeste are a lesbian couple too, although if that's what the text said is not unambiguous. It was retconned in the anime adaptation. Count it or don't. Also, one is dead, so you never get to see them AS a couple.) Heterosexual love interests get screen time, Phoenix and Dahila/Iris, Gumshoe and Maggey, Mia and Diego, Trucy's kid-crush on Klavier, Oldbag's gilf-crush on Edgeworth. Not to mention minor characters. There are minor heterosexual characters you don't get to see as a couple because one is dead, but there's still a diverse range of heteroes. And yet, all the queerness is left as innuendo or off-screen. And I'm just not satisfied with it. Its been 20 years. The Great Ace Attorney could have easily had a gay relationship canon and on screen there were so many candidates. At least it had innuendo regarding a lesbian couple (Susato x Rei/Haori) and they're both alive.

Yeah it’s interesting right? There’s still something really interesting about like what characters and ships gay audiences gravitate towards, but it is a shame that it’s all implied or headcanon
