The dialogue on this level was just spot on- everyone in the radio chatter was trying to handle multiple things at once, Magic was just sweating all over trying tell everyone what to do. Truly fits the sound of chaos.

I found the dialog of Assault Horizon to be pretty good. Yes, the story was generic as hell, but everyone sounds like they enjoyed being part of this game, especially the voice actor that played Guts.

I mean, it's a good Ace Combat to start with. It's more Call-of-Duty-nesque in both story and personality, there's a lack of superweapons but the way they make light of carrying and using a high-powered thermobaric bomb already gives you an idea of what it'll be like to get deeper into Strangereal.

I'm oddly reminded of multiplayer, because nobody bothered to change the map from DC. But to be fair, I loved playing as the Apache Longbow. People always underestimated that heli. It could wreck most attack planes in a 1v1.

This is the reason why I love the Washington MP map. You're sitting inside the cockpit of your personalized F-22, seeing multiple hostiles flying around, AA bursting from futile defenses, planes breaking apart. Then you get locked on, you desperately try to maneuver out. Nothing for a couple of seconds. You spam the DFM's counter maneuer desperately, then bam! You do a Cobra, you're on the 6 of the enemy jet. Fox 1. Fox 2. Boom. Beautiful.

we can all agree that Markovs plot armor was the worst thing in this Mission. what an idiotic idea.... but tb h when playing qfa with EML it would be to easy.
@kaiserepsilon40113 жыл бұрын
I personally think that giving the enemy your plot armor is a nice subversion of the overdone trope of a completely overpowered MC decimating the enemy you've waited the whole game to fight, no, it's gonna be long, hard, and you best expect your enemy to not fight fairly. This is replicated in AC7 with Mihaly.
@caav563 жыл бұрын
@@kaiserepsilon4011 I still think plot armor is a bullshit thing to do. Make them *exactly* as overpowered as protagonists if you want, but not outright invulnerable (and utterly unenjoyable to fight). Make them have player's weapons stock and survivability, physics-defying PSMs, maybe even regeneration (Automatic Extinguisher), but not invincibility.
@FcMries3 жыл бұрын
@@caav56 it would have been cool if there were three ways to complete AC7's campaign, the first being the one where Mihaly kills Wiseman and escapes, the second being killing Mihaly after he kills Wiseman, and the third having you kill Mihaly before he kills Wiseman
@caav563 жыл бұрын
@@FcMries After reading some talks on Ace Combat sub, which were very unhappy in how Mihaly had plot armor for most of his presence in the game and could kill your allies with impunity while you were unable to do shit to him, something came up with an interesting idea: 1) It's not going to be easy, but you can take down Mihaly at any of his three encounters. 2) If you manage to take down Mihaly before the plot-scripted time, during the supposed next encounter with him, your opponent is a supercharged Sol Squadron, enraged at you for taking down their king (like Mihaly wasn't a sadistic bastard). 3) If you manage to take down them too before the final encounter, your last boss is a sort of a preview of the final boss of the game - a Z.O.E.-operated drone fighter, which uses Mihaly's dataset for enhanced performance.

@TigerClaws12894 I'm pretty sure. The DX CD [Japan only] comes with 3 disk, including every track from the game. It lists this song as "Horizon". It would make sense, considering Unsung War and Zero had final mission levels named after the title. Regardless, it is a fact that there is a mix up between both "Release" and "Horizon". [limited CD says "Horizon" is "Release" and vice versa] Since there is an obvious mix up, I'm calling the track based on past games and the DX edition [every track]

@TheTankbus10 жыл бұрын
If DFM didn't force us into scripted on rail segments, it could would be pretty cool.
@lekoro110 жыл бұрын
MrDustyMonk well how else would they do it? you have to follow the opponent or they will either get away or get behind you so why not give you a dose of epic at the same time (flying between the buildings and flying through valleys)
@TheTankbus10 жыл бұрын
That's okay from time to time. What isn't fun is being forced to use DFM to kill an ace. The final boss is guilty of this. I don't think it should be forced, it should be a tool in the players arsenal. That's when it works best if you ask me.
@adamfarkas532710 жыл бұрын
Yeah, DFM is such a thing which you either love as hell (like me) and use it almost every time, even for most cannon-fodder planes... or you hate it, because of the restriction it puts on the gameplay. By that I mean, you can only progress through the story, if you kill LEAD targets, and LEAD targets can only be killed in DFM, as far as i know.
@Goldenkitten19 жыл бұрын
***** Not using it constantly would have been a massive boon. As an occasional thing that they drop in to make a certain scene more cinematic I would have been totally 100% behind it. But unfortunately it's not optional or used sparingly, instead you pretty much HAVE to use it to win the game. And in the last few missions when they really crank up most of the enemy AI to the max (especially on Ace difficulty) there is a 0% chance you can beat them without it. I've seen some planes on Ace difficulty do a complete 180 on the spot without actually turning at all, the realism of that aside gameplay-wise this is something you could not possibly keep up with in manual, thus making DFM a requirement. And once you engage that you're almost completely on rails. Ace Combat 4, no DFM? Pretty epic. Ace Combat 5, no DFM? One of my all time favorite games and a completely cinematic experience. Ace Combat 0, no DFM? A good game with an AMAZING 1-on-1 dogfighting finale that relied entirely on your own control. I don't hate Assault Horizon completely. I think it was an "average" game when you get down to it, just that in a series that has generally been awesome it seems worse by comparison. But if they'd spent more time on crafting a fun manual mode (and a better story, though unlike some I don't totally despise the "real world" twist, even if I liked the previous ones better) instead of trying so hard to be "cinematic" I think it could have been something as special as the games that came before it. Sometimes when the music kicks in, the moods just right, and you're not forced to fall into DFM I actually do get waves of classic AC feelings from this game, unfortunately they're too few and far between and the game is dominated by a mode that takes most of the gameplay out of your hands. *tl'dr* - DFM was a one-trick pony that might have worked as an occasional addition to add gravitas, but as a major gameplay mechanic it takes the game out of your hands.
