Hello Everyone! Mr. Dave Pomeroy is one of the pillars of the Nashville music scene. As the president of the Nashville Musicians Association (the union), he does everything he can to ensure that the musicians who make that town so great are protected and prioritized in the industry. All of this on top of the fact that Dave Pomeroy is one of the best bass players you will ever hear, and whose resume as a musician in Nashville for over 43 years is longer than almost anyone's still working!
This video was filmed inside the Nashville Musicians Association headquarters on Music Row. Dave was incredibly welcoming, letting us film in his office (where all of the basses are! haha), and film around the rest of the union. If you stick around until the end, you will get to see a bit of extra footage of the union.
Thank you so much for watching this interview (and all of my interviews!). This episode means a great deal to me -- Prior to filming this interview, I had never actually met Dave Pomeroy, but I had heard of him and all of the great things he has done for musicians for years. When I reached out, he was incredibly gracious with his time and knowledge, and as you can tell from the interview, he knows the music business inside and out!

Thank you! I hope that people will be able to look at this in the future when they're trying to learn more about careers in music. What Dave talks about in this interview is stuff people need to know, but even a lot of people in the industry don't quite understand.

This was a great interview! What a humble and genuinely nice person. There’s often a culture like it’s the ‘magic circle’ within music of ‘oh no I can’t possibly divulge the secrets or let you inside’ but it’s wonderful to see decent people like Dave breaking that and welcoming others (and helping them not get ripped off)

Thank you so much! Yeah, I think that is something that Dave has really tried to do since he took over the union -- strip away the secrecy of everything and show people that the union is actually there to help musicians. He said this in the interview, but the music business is not always a friendly place to work, and having an organization that's there and on your side with your business makes a huge difference.

Wow wish the union in LA did anything at all! Maybe local 47 will learn to do one helpful thing for regular musicians... Instead of just swooping in and taking half your pay check whenever you get a decent gig.

Hey Travis! What Dave has managed to do with the union in Nashville in the past 15ish years is definitely something special. People in that town maybe don’t realize how unique that situation has become. That said, I would suggest reaching out to Dave. He’s an open book, and more than willing to share how he has managed to get so much done in Nashville. Maybe he can help you guys out in LA with how to make some positive changes!

@@CodyJungGuitar Oh I don't have some grudge or anything it just struck me how well other unions seem to operate in comparison. There are some good guys for sure at the LA union. But it needs major reform! Most cats only join when they are forced to when they land something.
