Very helpful video for anyone new to Acellus. We switched to Acellus last year after 7 years of homeschool/virtual school with other programs. This is the ONLY program that has ever held my now 14 yo's attention. We love it. We do whatever my son shows interest in each day. Most days we work way ahead and do more than required. We have learned concepts this year that we struggled with for the years with other programs. We love that the videos are so short and often very entertaining!

My son is a 10th grader. We just had to pull him from High School as he had only been 3 days this year. He was diagnosed with ADHD, Severe Social Anxiety, Depression and a Disruptive mood disorder. He is the one who actually researched several online options and Acellus is the one he liked the best. We enrolled him and yesterday was his first day. We made sure he was involved in scheduling his classes. We went with the Basic option with 6 classes, and used his same high school classes he was enrolled minus ROTC and Paint 2. He wanted to start with doing all the classes every day to see what it is like and adjust from there. His high school does an A and B day with 4 classes per day for 1 1/2 hours. He just could not sit in class for that long. Was driving him crazy. We have to get his 9th grade transcript sent to Acellus and see if they accept all of his classes. I can't imagine he would not get credit for them. I do think once he finishes his 2 electives which is Spanish 1 and Coding, we'll get him in a couple more electives that he wants to take. For the Basic option, and with the scholar ship, we are paying $79 dollars a month. We'll try it for a couple months and if all is well, we'll pay out the rest of the year, which is $790. If you pay the full year, you get 2 months free basically. I didn't see the need to pay for the upper two levels. I don't really need a school counselor. It's pretty easy to get the high school graduation requirements on line for your state, and his mom and I can do it ourselves and let him be more involved in that process.
@UltratecJS
@UltratecJS 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Keith, it sounds like you did tons of research, which is great. Let me know if they give you credit on classes already completed, from previously talking to other parents I always thought you had to redo the entire grade if you didn't complete a full grade but I could be wrong. The new expensive plans are new and I do not think you need to pay extra for them, the basic is fine which is what has always been what everyone uses. I pay the monthly subscription since we actually do take a 2-month break in the summer which you do not pay during a pause but with the yearly even if you pause you don't get money back.

Hey Jesse. Sorry. He did complete the 9th grade. That's the transcript I was referring to. He did start from the beginning of his 10th grade classes. The good thing is he isn't to far behind as the grading period for the high school ends this Friday. I'll message you, once we get his grades submitted to Acellus, and what they accept or don't accept.

Hi! We just enrolled into Acellus! Typically how long does it take to complete one step of each course? I'd like her to complete all 6 classes by June so she can have her summer off, and I did the math for a class that has 300 steps, she'd need to do about 13 steps a day to complete by June. Just wondering roughly how long each step takes...Thank you!
@UltratecJS
@UltratecJS Жыл бұрын
It will vary depending on what class it is. The easier classes like Electives, History, and English my kids will usually do 15 steps in 1-2 hours. The harder Math classes, especially once they're in High School, it can take like 3-4 hours to do 10-15 steps. 13 steps a day definitely sounds very doable. For the easier classes we do 15 steps for the week per class.

For elementary students, how is the classes? Is there any printouts needed? How do they know they are learning at that course? Is it all just videos that they are watching and answering multiple questions or quizzes online? Are these classes good to transfer back to any public schools in the USA?
@UltratecJS
@UltratecJS Жыл бұрын
My kids only did from Middle school and onward so I never saw the elementary material but it should be similar to MS and HS. They have to do video lessons, take notes, and take tests to confirm they have learned the subject. Yes you should be able to transfer back to regular public U.S. schools. NCAA is one of the accreditors for Acellus.

Hi Stew, So far they are retaining the knowledge and not having any issues advancing grades. So far I'm happy with the steps and they are as well. The steps for grade 2,3 and 5 go by super fast I set my boys to do 20 steps a week for each class so they dont finish the course super super fast I find it goes. By super fast. They do 20 steps a weeks and it takes them about 6-10 minutes per class. Do the steps take longer to complete as the grades go higher? I’m worried cause we used to use workbooks before and it would take 30 minutes min per class now it’s like 6 minutes there’re done! My 3rd grader finished all 6 courses in 36 minutes today! Scared it’s not enough. I’m scared they’re not learning enough as it’s too short. Hope it’s good enough learning each day. I’m scared the states testing won’t be passed I’m just worried. Have any of your children passed state testing and how did it go?
@UltratecJS
@UltratecJS 4 ай бұрын
I know you mentioned I answered your question from another answer I gave but yes Acellus is a ton more efficient so kids finish faster. If you think about it when kids go to regular school they waste 1 hour getting ready, driving to school, waiting for teachers, interruptions, they finally get started on a few minutes of lectures, and move on to the next class. With Acellus, they go straight to the learning and they are a lot more efficient. I have read some parents send their kids do testing outside of Acellus to make sure they are on pace. Personally, we only sent our oldest to take his SAT's and he did very good. He's now been accepted into college and will start in the next few months. Use the extra time to take family trips, Museums, etc etc. During the two month summer break we gave our kids, we would make them read books as well.

That's not true, you get an Accredited High School diploma accepted at all colleges and universities.

If you check my 2 year review of Acellus, this is one of the complaints I mention where they take extremely long to respond. I wish that once they start working on our request, they would try to call you so everything can be answered in one shot. Most of the time by the time they respond again, I have moved on from the issue on my own.

Hi Jesse, we just signed up for power homeschool. My son is in 11th grade. How easy is it to switch to their accredited Acellus program after being enrolled in power? I feel I might want to switch so that he gets an actual diploma. Thanks

You can get started right away and all you have to do is send them his transcripts to get credit for previous classes.

Did you switch from power homeschool to Acellus? Was it easy? Did you have to get ahold of a human or just online information transfer??
