Thanks for sharing this great "guide". My X223W died after 15 years of continuos use and I'm sure the guilt is on power supply caps, so will fix it following your very detailed steps. Greetings from Paraguay.

Thank you for this sir - it was helpful - looking for a monitor arm - wasn't sure if this could support one. Thanks. Needed to know how to remove the stand.

Thanks for posting this. I had power up issues but screen did flash Acer before crashing. Changed out 2 capacitors and it is working, my soldering skills are subpar but it worked.

@@Electronicle I have this exact issue today after the screen has been in storage for the longest. ACER barely came on the screen, the purple power button light showed but nothing else. I started again with power back on and then had nothing. I have done the replace caps thing before on a big tv but the kit they provided was wrong and I had to buy more caps. WHat can you recommend ? Thank you for this video, and others that did ones like this. You are right about replace other capacitors. Weird we had this problem back some years ago with computer motherboards being made with junk capacitors or at least poor ones. They now seam to end up in our monitors and TV's. Word of note: I repairs a LG TV from 2006 MFG and none of the capacitors were bulged. End result I replaced the 20 some capacitors except the huge main one, but since it was a double sided circuit board the top circuit would some times start to come off. Because of that I did this in three sessions. I tested it on each time hoping I got the problem part. Well the first set, not much change the second was more helpful and the third like new or better as best I can tell. The problem this LG zenith model TV had was: it took more then 30 minutes of trying to come on, clicking inside all the time before it would come on and act normal, or it might not come on. It got so bad for me I stopped using it, but because of the model and the nice design and nice speakers it had on the edge as part of the whole complete unit I hated to throw it out. That is how I got it, from someone's ready to trash it pile and they said I could have it. So after buying a set of used 4 of the main boards for it and that not helping, I decided to buy the cap kit. Anyhow after I put that last set of smaller capacitors in the power board, I now get a picture and sound in about 20 seconds to 1 minute after I turn on the power strip and then turn on the TV, amazing! I have repaired several monitors since, by replacing the whole set of the capacitors in the power supply section, except the supper large one. Often there is one or two leaking but not always..... OH, on some of these they have to have a capacitor load up before they will even let you turn them on, and if that capacitor is weak or bad it can be a simple 1 or 2 capacitor repair.. Dell plasma TV had a pair on the same two connections.....

Helpful teardown. Mine didn't have in-line connectors for the 4 small connectors and it was impossible to remove them, removing the display ports board and unplugging the button board allowed enough space to flip both boards over without removing the 4 small connectors. The 1000uF and 470uF were both toast, symptom was slow-yellow flash on the power led with a barely audible hiss as the power supply tried to start up between flashes. Quick fix, just annoying with all the stupid clips.

Thanks for this vid acquired one of these monitors but it was broken. Only the 2200uf cap was slightly bulged replaced it with a upspecked 25v one hope it lasts longer this time.

I have a G225HQ and it restarted every second when i plugged in a device. So i took it apart and really found a bad cap, but didnt had the right replacement at the time. So i took an old scrappy Mainboard (from 2008) wich was in my scrap sortiment and i found the right cap. Nice! Soldered the old replacement cap in and YES, it worked out! The Screen now turns immediately on like new. It helped me to watch your video on the side, so big thanks :)

Thanks a lot man! Needed to clean the dust inside my X233H, not a fan of the plastic clips which hold the monitor together. Should have been just 8 or more screws to make it easy to disassemble!

How do you find the schematics for acer monitors? I have an expensive gaming monitor that just went out and I'd like to try to fix it. I have experience working with schematics, soldering and a hot air rework station.

Is it best to replace defective caps with new, or at least in good condition, ones with matching V & mfarad ratings? I have an Acer X233H bd or bid - it works but I might replace the caps. If there are a few vertical lines in the screen, will replacing the caps help remove them? Great video & use of equipment! The monitor is from '09, but still works, as it was tossed out. Thanks 🤓

Hmmm.. thought I posted here! Should you replace the defective caps with new (or in known good condition) ones, with the voltage/m-farad rating matched? Where did you get or find the service manual? Thanks for a great video! I got a hold of a working Acer X233H (a toss out) but I might want to replace the caps, too, for improved functions, sharper images, etc. The monitor is what, 11 years old, but still works. 🤓

technically yes...with new caps, however in this video I think I used an old cap that was still good. Just means that the fix might not last as long. As far as service manuals....those are just something you have to search for online. Some manufacturers offer them, but not many.

I recently got the same problem because i tried to repair it from another problem, first it was just turning on for a second, the power led turned blue for a few secs and then it turned again into orange, when i see that there were some damaged capacitors i replace them with a new ones with the same specs hoping that it will work, but when i tested it again the power led did not even turn on and it's not emmiting any noise, then i replaced all the capacitors in the board, but still not working, any idea about what can be the problem?, i don't have an oscilloscope to test the signal, how can i test if the problem is in the main board or in the power supply?

NOTE: It's the same monitor (different type of boards) and the labeled outputs (5v, GND) are giving 4.99 and 5.00 volts

hmm don't have that specific manual. How many lines are running from the power supply to the main board? Are there any markings on the board to what the pinout of the connector is? If there is an On/Off pin you can short that to 5v to activate the power supply without the mainboard attached. There will be the standby 5v that is always there as you noticed, however there will most likely be either a 12v or a 3.3v output as well. Another thing to try is to unplug the backlight and try and turn it on to see if anything changes. Now because you have 5v, you'll generally get the standby light as well, so it sounds like the main logic board is shot.

@@Electronicle I short the On/Off pin to 5v as you said and the screen blink less than a sec and then nothing, the pinout is this one imgur.com/a/GD9zceA
