Thanks for the insight. I got the no disc issue resolved by 1)gently wiping the laser with denatured alcohol. Then 2) Bringing out the cable and cleaning it with a soft eraser. The type kids use for their pencil works. Erasers do great cleaning jobs on signal cables. Cleaned and reset the cable. That just did it.

I just realized that the VCR mechanism is different because this version is a vcp, not a vcr. But there is an erase head in there. So I think during the late 2000s, someone replaced the VCR mechanism

Hoping you might have an idea for me here! My CD changer reads a lens cleaning CD with bristles on it (it plays back music while cleaning) but not my regular CDs. Any idea why this might be the case?

Thanks for this, When I opened mine up, I saw that the rubber roller was missing. I found it in the case and that solved it for me. It doesn't seem to have anything but gravity holding onto it, so keep this puppy right side up if you can. Also a bit tricky putting front panel back on so that the VCR door opens when a tape is ejected.

it seems that on my thomson cd player the potentiometer is not accessible. but I'm a beginner so chances are I'm just not finding. Any hints? There's only screws holding the pieces together it seems.

DVD sounds more compressed. VHS wins.

Did this a lot in high school. My vhs deck had such a nice roll off and warmth in the low end!

That worked! I bought annold but very high end player. Tested it, worked. Came home, didn’t work anymore. I guess the car ride was the final straw. Bumped up the laser voltage just a tiny bit: works perfectly now! Thanks for this tip!

My rotary belt had come off. I put it back on and ordered a replacement in case it breaks. The error message, just said ERROR and it sounded like something was just spinning. I am amazed such a little rubber belt turns the whole tray around! Thank you for saving my 20 year old disc player!!!!

It is normal that power on off 3.2V be? With the main board it is 3,2v and wothout it connected it is 3,8v. Is that normal?

mine just stopped charging after it discharged completely on using. after failed attempts to charge it i discovered two cells have completely no charge and are behaving like they are shorted coz power seems to flow from the ones next to them just through them like they are just conductors. the battery is the 18v core pro 12ah type. any advice for boss

I replaced the main board and it was still broken. But the guy who sold me the part told me to take the wide white cable out of the main board (as this is the cable to the display panel) and see if your TV turns on. My TV was constantly power cycling with a black and blue screen. I removed the white cable, turned the TV on and I heard audio from my TV. Do this step before you buy any new parts. If your tv turns on after removing the cable for the display panel then it’s the panel itself that’s broken, everything else is working. Not too sure if it’s worth replacing the panel though, maybe if you can find a cheap one, but I found it too hard to find.. Might just have to buy a new TV, or buy a 2nd hand one of the exact same model and move your main board to the new TV, so that you retain all the saved data.

Hi . I did encounter this 'not opening' of the tray with a Philips CD dvd playher /recorder and noticed that it has no problem opening when a cd or dvd is left in it when turning it off for the next time using it . At the local repairshop I was told that the magnet centering the discs is too strong . That is maybe sounding a little strange because normally ( in my expeience anyway )magnets are getting weaker over time . Maybe somebody can clear this out and even has a solution to possibly fix this ?

Bought the same unit 24 years ago. Recently I transported with a disk, came loose inside And jammed, since then, it's not working correctly. Will try the steps in your video. Are the belts for the c? D drive very specific or generic. Greatly appreciate your tutorial.Gave you a thumbs up and Is subscribed. Paid about $400 or so back in 2000 I figure it's gonna cost around 1500 to get the same sound quality. Thanks again for your help

Would it be a belt or alignment problem if the tray keeps opening and closing on its own? Mine does that repeatedly. Sometimes it will sort of slam open. It will usually close and play after a while or after I mess around with pushing buttons.
