Yes, to prevent any shorts incase you accidentally touch your screwdriver to contact points or fans generating current while cleaning

yes, one time after putting the battery back my screen driver touched something and made sparks. Idk if i broke something but my computer still works for now

Damn that alot of thermal paste... In this video not only how to clean a fans, but how to change thermal paste of your processor aswell.
