"No, the computer shop cannot do something like that." I can tell you with confidence that yes, some 'computer shops' round here can do something like that. I've seen it and MUUUUUCH worse. 🤣 Just wanted to add... today I fixed a backlight issue on a Lenovo laptop motherboard and it's mainly because of watching you all this time, I am able to do these things. Thank you Sorin.

"Sweet liquid damage", most times "cola", one of the key ingredients of cola is phosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid reacts aggressively with copper causing corrosion, in the case of circuit boards causes track damage. Also of note, phosphoric acid is a known "electrolyte" and can conduct current, that being said, a cola spill on a circuit board can create current pathways to components causing critical failures.

It is so refreshing to see someone actually repair a laptop motherboard instead of replacing it...We are constantly told to reduce, reuse, recycle except when it comes to the latest Mac or Windows based computer...You keep seeing faster CPU and memory performance, but I don't need to upgrade...My Dell D531 with its dual core CPU gives me all the speed I need to run Windows 10 successfully...The sad reality is computer manufacturers don't like us...They don't make money off of "old reliable" lasting a lifetime...So, they incorporate design flaws into all their models and make it really difficult to repair by gluing parts together...I guess people like us are considered old relics to this new world...
@supergeekjayАй бұрын
Yes, but machines like yours are only good for basic stuff. Office and web stuff. It is too old to run newer software, or anything strenuous. Try running video editing, gaming or even AI generation on it, it will be slow as treacle or not work, and as for 4K video, forget it! Dual core chips are so underpowered for today's stuff. My old Dell Precision M6600 was a beast when new (£1,400 desktop replacement workstation), but today it can't run anything stressful than just basic stuff, so I had to buy a new one. It's like asking a 70 year old human to do backflips and gymnastics. Old machines have their place, but to keep up and do the latest, you need newer. Sadly they are not as upgradeable as they used to be. Planned obsolescence, more profit.

Yesterday I had an Acer Nitro 5 come in with the same problem and I had to take the board out of the laptop.It was running fine but not charging and it said it was charging. The first charging MOSFET caught fire as soon as I plugged it in to check what the laptop was taking. So, I fixed the PCB and replaced the MOSFET. All was well, and BOOM, the second charging MOSFET exploded when I went back to testing. So again, fixed the burned PCB and replaced the MOSFET and now were good. Sometimes the fault can jump up and bite you.

Most likely a dodgy computer repair shop can always do something worse. Like intentionally put water on the board so they can charge you with extra, or giving some technical reports to a customers who are not technically knowledgeable..

Ok so basically why a gaming laptop will not charge the battery is because a capacitor is missing from the motherboard. Aye aye... Mystery solved 😋
@supergeekjayАй бұрын
The customer could have scraped the board with the new battery when installing it. Even though the battery is not a customer replaceable part. Only the RAM and storage are, usually. Service manuals usually say the battery is Authorised Service only. AND a big no-no is they've used a cheap Chinese battery. Eurgh!! 😔

Some owners do not deserve a laptop - spilling stuff on the keyboard and not immediately cleaning it out, then change a battery for no reason, and screwing the case carelessly.
