Jim Steinman ( who wrote all Meatloaf's songs ) wrote this as part of a rock opera about Vampires

Another Bonnie Tyler song is "holding out for a hero". You definitely want to check out the music video for that also.

I love Bonnie Tyler's gravelly voice. Thanks for doing this song! I loved the video when it came on TV back in the day.

The video is not a literal visual to the lyrics…the video is a dream sequence. Dreams never make sense…in any case, the song is literally about a vampire’s love.

Apparently this song was written about vampires. 😮 I had no idea, and I've loved this song since it came out. Check out Professor of Rock here on KZbin, he did a video about it. Put in the context of vampire love, the video and lyrics suddenly make way more sense. 💡👍😆

From what I've read, Bonnie Tyler wasn't happy that this song was wrapped in a "ghost story" for the video.

Most of her biggest hits are rock-opera power ballads written by Jim Steinman who also wrote most of Meatloaf’s biggest songs too.

This was the top song of 1983. There is a difference between Rock n Roll and Rock. RnR dominated from the early 50s into the early 70s. By the time the 70s moved into the 80s, the "Roll" had been gone and Rock had dominated the 70s. The simplified version of Rock took on many different sounds, and Pop music became more defined in the 80s, and, in turn, was the dominite sound of the decade.

Bonnie Talyor has a singular voice, very unica, a little raspy and raw, This and Holding out for a Hero were she better hit, she explain that one of the reason she has that unique raspy voice was an operation on her vocal chores,

This is a wonderful tie-in to one of my all-time favorite artists, the unbelievably underappreciated Mike Oldfield. He features Bonnie Tyler on two tracks of his "Islands" album from 1987, including the title track: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHrFcqKwbc6bgrs

Versatility is not the best way to describe Bonnie’s voice because she damaged her vocal chords very early on in her career, which is why she has a raspy sound. The best way to describe Bonnie’s voice is rich, full bodied, and powerful. It’s very very difficult for a singer who has had damage to their vocal chords to have a full range, but what she lacks in range, she exudes a rich raspy heartfelt powerful voice.

It may help to know that Jim Steinman wrote this song originally for Meatloaf, but he had vocal issues going on and couldn't do it. This song is given away in the second verse when she talks about fantasizing. Th's is when the video goes really off the deep end. Everything Jim Steinman produces is always over the top.

I saw on another channel recently, Professor of Rock, that this was actually written as part of a larger intended rock opera about a vampire that turns this woman and they fall in love. It was a lightbulb moment, and suddenly the video and even the lyrics made way more sense.💡😮😊

Came out in 1982 and fully the reverb 80s sound with synthesizer. When videos for MTV being brand new really did not have to make sense to the words. The 70s Farrah Fawcett hair that carried over into the 80s. Bonnie did chart with a few singles as hit in the US as a Welsh singer.

As someone who grew up on this music in the 70's and 80's we never analyzed the words or even the meaning of the songs like the people who do the reaction videos. We were more into the beat or how it sounded. As I watch these videos I do now understand more about the meaning of the songs. I guess you young-ans are teaching us.

As someone your age you were most kind in your comment about the young- ans. They put a lot more critical thinking sometimes into areas best left to being seen by the mass majority as sheer entertainment.

You are thinking too much into it. About the video: When one is invaded by all these feelings, things look different. Things look crazy and thoughts come in like an avalanche. The same with this video. It doesn't make sense. That is how ,😮for someone in desperation, life looks like. 😢😮 Being hopeless (eclipsed) is the worst feeling in the world.
