Honestly I wish Framework partnered with Cherry to have a mechanical laptop keyboard. I currently have an Alienware laptop and the Cherry keyboard genuinely feels great to type on, easily the best laptop keyboard I've used. I've tried out other gaming laptop keyboards and even MacBook keyboards at Best Buy and Walmart, and I feel like those are too mushy for my liking.

So it's a cross between a modern aluminum, well-built laptop cross with a thinkpad DNA and it's repairable. Honestly seems p good.
@diet_lemonade
@diet_lemonade 3 ай бұрын
You are lucky to have the silver-aluminum model...Unfortunately the black model is made out of plastic and feel really bad whenever you have to lift the laptop. Every single time I hear squeaky plastic and the whole thing feels like a chromebook. T480 is miles ahead in terms of build quality. T14 gen 5 in my eyes in not an upgrade, but rather lenovo's attempt to sell us a cheaper laptop only because of 2 RAM slots? Also, despite countless complaints on their forum and on reddit, they still soldered ports onto the motherboard and then bragged about repairability, lol.

My T14 G1 (AMD) burns battery even when off (and in 'linux' sleep mode). I leave it off for a week and it's down to half. Lenovo's BIOS is clearly doing something when it should be off. Fully updated BIOS. Even leaving it overnight and you are down from 100 to 90%. Lenovo refuses to acknowledge the problem and always blames nonsensical reasons such as "drivers".

This is a long known issue from back then when it was released. I am not sure if there's any resolution for it. I was following the discussion on the freedesktops Gitlab instance and have never continue reading for 2 years now. I have since been avoiding any AMD powered laptops to run Linux and be concerned with the lack of development from the manufacturer since they don't QA everything down properly.

@@jameskirk3 Jokes aside, the problem mainly lies with their BIOS programmers whom are still quite new and had to deal with spaghetti implementation of the power states. Lenovo US had someone experienced sent to Lenovo China because they weren't able to reproduce the battery leak at first. He himself attempted to fix it but since the BIOS is a borrowed mess they always reuse from precious gen of which is not a good indication of R&D and QA. Ironically, this issue does not seem to affect other brands or even their Ideapad lines and it have since been difficult for this one person to convince his upper managements to do something about it.

If you like this laptop, you should really try the P14s Gen 5 Intel (not the AMD). This ThinkPad is the GOAT. Everything from build quality, to the 3k IPS 14.5" display is above and beyond all "modern" Thinkpads imo. It sips battery, has excellent performance, and all around has that great ThinkPad fit and feel. And I don't know what the hell they did to the keyboard but its' significantly better than any other "modern" TP keyboards I've used. Felt cheap, battery life was horrible, performance wasn't great. Maybe it was just me, but I really did not like that laptop at all. The T14 Gen 1 is significantly better IMO, but I've gotten somewhat picky with my laptops as I've started to use and rely on them more

I had to replace my trusty E14 g2 AMD back in the middle of this year because I had to spend most of my time in the hospital and it kept dying on me. I tried my best to find a really good, portable, windows laptop with great battery life, but it just didn't exist. I ended up moving to a MacBook Air M3, which had better specs than the T14 I was looking for and it was actually cheaper. why. Lenovo. why

the new thinkpads are worse build. we are using lenovo laptops for a long time now and they are getting worse and cheaper each time. they just break all the time you have to spend double the price to get a good product as it used to be in the past. and the cooling desing and fan courve is questionable

What's with the lenovo chinapad glaze? laptops in this category should be able to do more than just "omg guys it replace ram battery thermal paste 10/10", zbooks and precisions can have their GPU replaced, some zbooks lets u replace the battery with no screws, the hinges on those is perfect, that is to just name a few, ofc these must have replaceable keyboards too, and most zbooks and precisions have their chassis made out of a magnesium alloy not chinapad plastic. Pls if u do an in-depth review, consider all the parts that are replaceable, consider the hinge durability like flex angle, force to open, etc, cuz this is still far worse than the t480 or hell the ones used on the ISS

What lenovo can't do right now is the battery. Yes thinkpads are worse than what they were but they are still great except for the battery. Hp, dell and asus can fit a bigger battery in a smaller chassis.

Laptop landscape is a horrid mess for a lot of people right now. Windows(x86) laptops usually lack or suffer from one or more of the following: battery life, quality of screen, speakers, keyboard, touchpad, lack of high speed ports, poor chassis build, noise/thermals and repairability is often neglected just like Apple products. Apple otoh completely rips people off with ram and storage upgrades but their laptops are otherwise good quality and balanced machines with fewer major software issues like windows laptops suffer from such as high battery drain in sleep mode. Lenovo isn't helping the Thinkpad brand because for the price even Razer builds higher quality and performance laptops and that's telling something about your business model of not appealing to consumers at all.

You kids and your new fangled lipservicelaptops with what passes for repairability. The T440P is the last great ThinkPad. It is the definition of what Lenovo has lost and what it needs to return to.

I'd say the T480 (not ths T480s) was the last good one, because it had the replaceable and hotswappable battery. I miss that... My T25 (T470 25th anniversary edition) is near perfect.
