You are lucky to have the silver-aluminum model...Unfortunately the black model is made out of plastic and feel really bad whenever you have to lift the laptop. Every single time I hear squeaky plastic and the whole thing feels like a chromebook. T480 is miles ahead in terms of build quality. T14 gen 5 in my eyes in not an upgrade, but rather lenovo's attempt to sell us a cheaper laptop only because of 2 RAM slots? Also, despite countless complaints on their forum and on reddit, they still soldered ports onto the motherboard and then bragged about repairability, lol.

If I'm not wrong, only the cover on the grey T14 Gen 5 was aluminum, and everything else is plastic. Don't quote me on that though.

Funny that you make a video on this, I feel like this laptop is cursed. The laptop CPUs that came out since this was released are so much better... Both HX 370 and Core Ultra Series 2. My T14 G1 (AMD) burns battery even when off (and in 'linux' sleep mode). I leave it off for a week and it's down to half. Lenovo's BIOS is clearly doing something when it should be off. Fully updated BIOS. Even leaving it overnight and you are down from 100 to 90%. Lenovo refuses to acknowledge the problem and always blames nonsensical reasons such as "drivers".
@Muhfis-ff7jhАй бұрын

This is a long known issue from back then when it was released. I am not sure if there's any resolution for it. I was following the discussion on the freedesktops Gitlab instance and have never continue reading for 2 years now. I have since been avoiding any AMD powered laptops to run Linux and be concerned with the lack of development from the manufacturer since they don't QA everything down properly.

@karakunai_dev4 күн бұрын
@@jameskirk3 Jokes aside, the problem mainly lies with their BIOS programmers whom are still quite new and had to deal with spaghetti implementation of the power states. Lenovo US had someone experienced sent to Lenovo China because they weren't able to reproduce the battery leak at first. He himself attempted to fix it but since the BIOS is a borrowed mess they always reuse from precious gen of which is not a good indication of R&D and QA. Ironically, this issue does not seem to affect other brands or even their Ideapad lines and it have since been difficult for this one person to convince his upper managements to do something about it.

I lost faith in thinkpad/Lenovo. Their firmware is terrible. There’s an issue with the X1C6 thunderbolt charging and their solution was to nerf the thunderbolt port to prevent any charging which makes it frustrating to use with a thunderbolt dock as it won’t charge. Had to explain and argue my case to support for months and I did not get a resolution. I think the best alternative now for upgradability etc is Framework. Lenovo has ruined thinkpads and their legendary support.

What's with the lenovo chinapad glaze? laptops in this category should be able to do more than just "omg guys it replace ram battery thermal paste 10/10", zbooks and precisions can have their GPU replaced, some zbooks lets u replace the battery with no screws, the hinges on those is perfect, that is to just name a few, ofc these must have replaceable keyboards too, and most zbooks and precisions have their chassis made out of a magnesium alloy not chinapad plastic. Pls if u do an in-depth review, consider all the parts that are replaceable, consider the hinge durability like flex angle, force to open, etc, cuz this is still far worse than the t480 or hell the ones used on the ISS

155U has a much weaker GPU than 155H. That's in contrast to AMD's 7840U which is more or less the same as the 7840HS. Also, the user-replaceable DDR5 is a decent chunk slower than its soldered counterpart, which, again, affects the GPU on these APU-based laptops.

Laptop landscape is a horrid mess for a lot of people right now. Windows(x86) laptops usually lack or suffer from one or more of the following: battery life, quality of screen, speakers, keyboard, touchpad, lack of high speed ports, poor chassis build, noise/thermals and repairability is often neglected just like Apple products. Apple otoh completely rips people off with ram and storage upgrades but their laptops are otherwise good quality and balanced machines with fewer major software issues like windows laptops suffer from such as high battery drain in sleep mode. Lenovo isn't helping the Thinkpad brand because for the price even Razer builds higher quality and performance laptops and that's telling something about your business model of not appealing to consumers at all.
