To the guys’ question that had his gf break up with him, probably won’t see this but I wanna share a little big insight. A friend is someone that will sympathize with you, help you, they want you to grow. If your ex is adamant about not giving you that conversation then you should absolutely not be their friend. Don’t despise her for this if it’s the case because it’s not like you can force someone to be a real friend. Enjoy what you had and try to learn from her what went wrong but if not, just move on, knowing better about what you want from relationships and flags to avoid.

I appreciated their answers on the long-winded "should I still be friends" question, but counterpoint: I don't generally want to assume an unreliable narrator, but it's possible that "she never told me why she wanted to break up with me" is actually "she told me to change something about my behavior several times while we were dating and I never listened". That happens, people saying "okay" to stuff like that and don't actually change, and the other person gets fed up with it and doesn't feel like they owe an explanation because they've already been telling you about it beforehand without results. Just a thought, and generally, while it depends on the specific people involved and the level of emotional attachment, yeah, I agree that some space is at least necessary even though I don't think you should just cut contact completely, you can be VERY casual, occasional friends.
